What about North Platte or Casper? I looked at moving up mine, and Casper had some closer dates, but I decided to stick with my original date.

That is such great news! I told everyone graduating in December ruined the holidays, but we have gotten our ATTs much faster than the May grads :-)

If they have a training double stethoscope try listening with an instructor (we used one of these for our test). You might not have it in the right spot.

We submit a wish list, and you can rank what is most important to you such as, specific hospital, location or type of hospital. I have gotten my first choice for every rotation but one so far. For senior practicum we can make a pretty extensive list including unit and hospital, I hear they are pretty good about getting you into either your first choice unit or hospital as long as you are not to picky (for example asking for any ICU vs Burn ICU).

I tried the ebook using pageburst for one class on the recommendation of the professor, and I HATED it. The search function sounded great, but it would often give me to many results, and I would have to wade through them all to find what I really needed. Charts came through looking strange and hard to read. Sometimes the chapter would just cut off before the end also. That being said I love my kindle for just reading, but for studying the hard copy worked much better for me.

Thanks! I have a friend that was having trouble with an out of state app because her clinical scholar was not part of the university faculty, (I guess they are at some schools?), but was employed by the hospital. This had me worried I am collecting letters of recommendation from the wrong people.

I am a senior nursing student in Colorado, and I am trying to everything organized to start applying for jobs. Some of the hospitals I look at want letters from clinical instructors, is this the professor who taught the didactic portion of the class, or the nurse who supervised our group at clinical (my school refers to this person as the clinical scholar).

Study A&P! It all starts there, and if you can picture how everything works normally you can better understand the abnormal.

They both have merits. The iPad has that app that you can use to take notes right on the powerpoint slides, and it is small and light, but my apple only classmates run into problems with online content not being supported sometimes, and have to do some assignments on the computers at school. You can also pickup PC laptop for a lot cheaper.

I tried a lot of study guides, but the only ones I ever really used are Med Surg Success and the Saunders NCLEX review. I really liked Med Surg Success because it has rationales for the correct and incorrect answers.

They all have the classes you are talking about, they have just given them different names. Maternal nursing at my school is called "Nursing Care of the Childbearing Family" and Med Surg is "Adult and Elder Nursing Care". The least expensive schools for BSN are state schools, but you need to be a resident, and cost will vary by state.

Actually they did not increase enrollment that much, while the summer 2012 group was huge, the winter 2013 group was 24 people, so for the year I believe the enrollment is about the same.

That is interesting since I am currently enrolled in UC Denver's traditional program, and I have had 2 placements at the VA and 1 at University... I also know for a fact that the VA has groups for the rest of the year. About half of my group are having our "summer" break during part of the spring semester due to clinical placement shortages, but we were warned this could happen on day 1 of orientation. My financial aid decreased by a whooping $26 when my status changed from full to part time for spring. Nobody had to cancel internships in my group, because we have known about this since last fall, and many of my classmate are currently working as ACPs (formerly the "nurse intern" position) at University. University is also not the only game in town for good clinical placements, I have had friends at Denver Health, Rose, Childrens, VA, Swedish and more that have had great experiences. I have only heard of a few bad clinical experiences from my classmates.

I used the same book, and it has a clinical companion book that accompanies it, I read that more than the text, much more concise. If they are testing heavily from the book there is also a study guide for the text that is good, but I didn't use it much since our test were heavily from the instructors power point. I also used Med Surg Success study guide which I really like because to explains the rationale for both the right and wrong answers.

That there is only 24 hours in a day, and you still need to sleep! Having to stay up late to do clinical prep, then getting up early for clinical.

I am a 3b with long hair, and my 2nd day hair routine is to make it a little damp, use a little leave in conditioner, and then some gel. My mom has short hair and uses the same routine. Your hair may still be a little damp, but with hair as curly as yours people will not be able tell it is wet unless it is literally dripping. Don't worry about your hair looking great, just make sure it is not to scary :)

Another curly girl here. I wash and gel my hair the afternoon before, so that it is dry before bed. Then just get it a little damp in the morning, and put some good hard hold hair gel (Biosilk Rock Hard Gelee works great, you don't need much) mixed with a little water to put it in a ponytail, and smooth down the frizzies. I also have a diffuser if the humidity is up, and my hair does not want to dry.

For text books I have bought almost all new, when I do buy a used one I get one in "like new" condition that still has the supplemtal materials. I like having the CD or access codes for extra study materials. I have had really good luck with amazon and the publisher's website. Almost all of my books have been from the same publisher (elsevier health), and they almost always have a 25% coupon code with free shipping.

I love the "Success" series of books, they give you rationals for both right and wrong answers. Many critical thinking questions have more than one correct option, but one is more correct. There are some VERY smart people in my class that had a hard time at first with the critical thinking question, but with some practice they did get the hang of it.

I just finished med surg, and I really enjoyed it. You get to take all of the theory you have been learning and actually apply it. Just remeber you can learn from everyone on your unit during clinicals. Our testing was very critical thinking heavy, so I would recomend getting a good NCLEX book. I also got "Med Surg Success" which I found really helpful becuse it had rationals for both right and wrong answers.
