  4. thats cute ---:chuckle lol----
  5. I live in Ohio which is weird weather during winter seasons. AT my job in long term care facility if you live close the maintenace will come get you but you have to find your own way home. Other wise if you call in cosidered a occurance & you lose your bonus (money) extra for showing up & on time
  6. Did anybody watch that episode of CSI with the model who died that drinking her own urine that would help extend her life beauty that sort of thing - wonder if she thought it was a good idea from that??? YUCK----- Cant imagine ever a good idea though think i would become dehydrated first..
  7. I work in a nursing home with 38 patients to one nurse I have had times when people die right at shift change to do all the paper work & calling funeral home, family, doctors. Or when somebody falls right before time to leave & here come 6 pages of extra paperwork Or you have a pool nurse come in to replace you but she never been there before so you have to stay to orient her to everything ---

Yes I have a few of my own One is tube feed bottles not hung up when the nurse before me knows they are going to be empty soon secondly having all the tubing suction, vent tubing all wrapped around each other so if you go to suction someone all this rats mess comes too -- yikes--- & thirdly med cart a sticky mess & the final aggravation of my job babysitting the stnas to get there job done right --- I didnt realize I became a nurse to babysit a bunch of aides that dont care about the patients only want a paycheck... AAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!
  9. I cant watch the fear factor shows with the stuff they have to eat or do- yuck--- but after reading the nursing fear factors I might be able to do 2 of them - but the rest YUCK!!!!!:barf01: :chuckle
  10. At my job in Long term care a couple of years ago we petitioned to have colored tops & just in the last month we are now able to wear colored pants. Which the residents love them & so much easier to keep clean with out seeing the yellow stains from the hard water so of us have to do country living or bad town water. But of course the place wont pay for them not even give a uniform allowance. but the tops & pants colors have to match, which some people must be color blind they wear the weirdest combos together-- ---- :)
  11. Yes I was a stna first for 9 yrs before I went to nursing school. It helps somewhat other times it dont. Helps you understand what stnas go through. But then on the other hand it makes things worse sometimes with you want to follow instead of take the lead. Around my area the girls say now if you want to go to nursing school you must be a stna first ... Sure that helps the drop out rate. If you can go for the cna 2 - means more experience -- all the better -- good luck----:)
  12. Normally we are offered the vaccine free, but this yr they say only the people with direct contact will be getting the flu shots in our facility( long term care). normally we have lots of people call in because of it so imagine this year will be terrible with out the flu shots for everybody.
  13. hello we are still doing that at our facility where we have 6-10 trachs in long term care. Works great for us-- :)
  14. I wanted to respond also - yes i love my career. Where else can you make a difference in some elses lives either by bringing a new baby in the world or saying good bye to a parent or family member or a friend. Sure people get frustrated & worn out with getting pulled in several different ways at one time, but hang on you will never regret it I dont - I upgraded from stna about 4 yrs ago to lpn. in long term care facility where I had worked for 9 before that. When a daughter comes up & gives you a hug for helping her father breathe easier it makes it all worth it....:)
  15. Well where I work - depends on what floor you have decides how many patients you have how hard the work load is . Normally med pass, treatments , supper med pass , treatments paperwork plus answering phones & helping the stnas with difficult patients & doing new admitts, calling doctors, families. The pay varies for shifts pretty decent though more then hospitals around here but not much on benefits unless you want to pay for them which will cost you through the roof.. :)
