  1. The most important aspect is to be prepared. Read thru your text before attending the lecture. It will make alot more sense that way. Learn to budget your time, and when you have extra time work ahead on material you know you'll need. Prepare for emergencies in your day care. I see this tripping up alot of students, and when you're required to have so many hours in school/labs you can't just stay home. When the instructors ask for volunteers, have your hand in the air. (no instructor wants an unwilling student). And most importantly.... don't get sucked into the dramas that will occur in the classes. You're bound t have some dramaqueens and they can make your life miserable and keep you from focusing on what is truly important. Good luck!
  2. Congratulations.... Since my test day is approaching this summer, how does this work?
  3. Congrats on your interview. Hopefully you'll know something at the conclusion and then can start planning. I know a wait that long would absolutely make me crazy... let us know how it goes.
  4. The quizes are 40 questions in an hour. The mid term and the final are 80 questions/2hrs. I had plenty of time to complete them. No, it's an online test, not proctored.
  5. The text arrived on Tuesday.... I had it sent over night. The text was helpful so I didn't't have to refer to the internet constantly, and alot of the class is "combining forms", which are stated in the text. I'd also like to take tha A&P, but will have to wait a bit on that. Regular classes will get in the way I think.
  6. I started the Straighterline Medical Terminology class this morning. Finished it tonight..... drum roll here.... 92% I'm happy, I'm tired.... my brain is mush... Now if I could just get the Biology finished like that, I'd be a happy camper. Great way to spend my spring break though....
  7. Since there are six pages to this thread, and I realize most folks will NOT read this thread from the beginning.... just a quick post. (is there such a thing?) College Network is a study system, not a college that gives a degree. Excelsior is a degree program. If you want to get an ADN/BSN from Excelsior you will have to pay and take the test. College Network does not give the tests or credits. These two options are NOT the same thing. Sorry, just needed to say this.
  8. I'm currently taking a Biology class, and I absolutely hate it. I've taken numerous online courses previously,( and scored high 90's) but this one is kicking my rear... royally. Seriously considering dropping this class, but I really need the credit. I've emailed them twice now asking for some guidance, but no response as of yet. Plan on emailing or calling tomorrow.
  9. Focus on your patient, and just remember... God has a special place for people who hurt children.
  10. Since you are a LPN at present, I doubt seriously if you would not be accepted into the program.... I would explain that until you have your financial questions resolved you're NOT enrolling. If possible I would email the admissions office, since that way you won't waste your time either. The person you spoke with should've had better phone manners, however I can see her point (even though I don't agree with it!)
  11. Amen!
  12. Thanks folks, venting has helped. Just knowing I'm not the only one who goes through this, helps also. Unfortunately moving seats isn't an option. A number of people in our class have requested this, and it's not allowed. I just know graduation is coming... have a great day!
  13. I'm a "mature" student in a one year PN program. I realize my attitude on alot of things is different than many of the students in our class. Although I'm not into the bar scenes, or weekend running, I do realize that younger students have those interests, and I don't blame them. They're young, I'm not. But what is driving me absolutely crazy, is all the drama. Everything from who's boyfriend is doing what, who's missing class, who received a perfect score on the test... it just never ends. I try to mind my own business, and focus on what I have to deal with. But when it literally surrounds you it's hard to ignore. If this was only during breaks, it would be easy to deal with (I'd walk away), but this goes on during lecture, during study time etc. They never shut up. I've spoken to the instructors, they can't seem to control it. They do try, but in the back of the class(we have assigned seats) they don't always hear this stuff or they can't identify who is doing the talking. I realize I'm an old fart, with older attitudes, but the drama is making me crazy. I want to say: deal with your boyfriend, or get out. Who cares who received the highest test score? Did you pass? Worry about passing, not everything else. So what if she's wore those jeans this week, who cares? Sorry, I just needed to vent a bit. Some of these students just need to grow up , I know that. But I can just see them suctioning a patient while discussing who has the best sale on shoes.
  14. Although your frustration level is thru the roof, it will get better! ( I mean, it has to, right?) Hang in there, you know you're doing the right thing and in the end it will pay off.
  15. I just sent you an acceptance for a "friend" request, so maybe now you can read it.
  16. I just sent you a PM...
  17. The PN school I'm enrolled in, is pretty fast paced. Calendar says a year, but comes out to be 10.5 months. Overall I like it, but like everyone some days I wonder "why?" I made up my mind I was going EC's ADN program the minute I finished PN, so have been working to that goal. I have alot of the pre req's out of the way, and the ones I don't have, I'm taking online, while doing the PN. So basically I'm enrolled in two different programs. Things get complicated some days. Since PN started I've finished Dev. Psych, Expos. writing, Int. Algebra, working on College Alg and just started Biology. Fortunately I have a husband who is fantastic and 110% supportive. I am seriously thinking of buying stock in Excedrin however.
  18. I so agree with you! The Mrs etc is awfully old, but I think at graduation I will call them by their first names, simply because I can. I don't mind going to pinning, but getting all excited over class song, class motto etc.... well, I'm a little past all that.
  19. I gave a couple of those last week, didn't use a bath blanket. Instead we closed the door, pulled the curtain around the bathing area, and bathed the client. The client will probably handle this better than you will, as they've had baths this way before. If you still feel uncomfortable with this, ask a CNA in the area. Tell her point blank that you need a little guidance. When they see you truly want to learn, and ultimately will do some things that will save her some time, she'll probably help.
  20. Congratulations! Hope your Gen Ed's go as well for you!
  21. I may sound cliche here.... with everything you've lost recently, wouldn't it be great to have something that is totally "yours" that no one can claim but you? You can do this!
  22. Gosh, if this post doesn't take me back to last October! I was convinced (and rightfully so) that my Fundamentals instructor hated me, belittled me and was going to wash me out of the program. She was/is confrontational, argumentative, hateful and somedays just plain mean. Sound familiar? Now 4 months later, she's also my best teacher. At some point I went to her and told her I just didn't get it. Asked for her to point me into a remedial direction and explained I was willing to do what it would take, but needed some guidance. Took about a month of her seeing that I was serious... but it's working and we're no longer adversaries. Thank God!
