  2. Just a couple questions....

I have also wondered about this. What I do (not saying it's correct): If the patient is on it every four hours (as needed) I don't generally get a whole set of vitals, I just put the pulse ox on them and leave it there for about 15 minutes to make su...
  3. Vented tubing for lipids?

When I worked night shift I hung quite a few lipids. Lipids usually comes in a smaller bag and I did not use 'vented tubing.' You do have to use a filter, though. Maybe the book has a typo and meant 'filtered' and not 'vented' ?
  4. I choose 3. Pay off extra each month. That way there's credit history and also savings on interest and in the bank. (:
  5. A rant from the night shift.

Oh... about the big bold 7am - nursing is 24/7 just in case you hadn't realized. I do not agree about the "real nurse is here now" attitude though. Sorry. A nurse is a nurse.
  6. Is this legal?

Yes, it is legal for them to search their property anytime they wish.
  7. My Facebook is private. Not public. Only my friends can see ANYTHING on my profile. (: So I don't care what I put on there.
  8. Really... if I understand you were required to sign off orders that you didn't take? Easy solution. Just make sure that they were ordered/carried through then you can sign it off. If you see that it hadn't been carried through/done then there's a pro...
  9. Do Nurses eat their....lunch?

Everyday I take my lunch break. I usually go around 12 or 12:30. I have never missed a lunch and never will. (: -knocks on wood-
  10. The purpose of the TLC round is to have a member of staff to go into every patient room on our floor/unit and ask them if they need help to the bathroom, if they need pain medication, if they need their belongings, etc. Our facility started it to hel...
  11. I start at 6:55am. Hide my vital machine in the bathroom and put my name on a med-cart. Round up them night nurses and get report. (After all - why WANT a day nurse who drags in 10 after 7 and come get report 20 after? You want to go home and I want ...
  12. Washing those scrubs?

Oh, I forgot to add that I throw my dirty scrubs in my hamper with all my other clothes. My BF has his own seperate laundry basket for whenever he does his laundry (never...). Lol So, the dirty scrubs sit for about a month UNLESS they get soiled whil...
  13. Friday the 13th - Any madness?

I had a normal day except DCF came to investigate the caregiver of one of my patients and the son was freaking out in the hallway because a police officer came with the lady and was demanding I go into the room and report back to him what they were a...
  14. HELP...I really messed up

If it's your first time then you may not get into too much trouble. Just call your job and ask to speak with your supervisor on your floor and them tell you were doing your laundry and found a PCA Morphine and you need to bring it back. Tell them it'...
  15. Skirts in the hospital...

Oh, what a typo I made!!!
  16. When will people learn NOT to say the "Q" word...

Yeah, I've said it a few times and the charge nurse would be "Sssshhhh!!!!"
  17. What's your favorite/least favorite part of your job?

Favorite: Going home the same day I clocked in (used to be night shift) Least Favorite: Being here from sun up 'til sun down
  18. Skirts in the hospital...

Every facility will have their own dresscode. Where I work it is required, if you wear a skirt, that you are to wear hose as well. No leg skin/ankles are to be exposed ... for common sense reasons if you're a staff nurse. If you're not a staff nurse ...
  19. 1st Needlestick

Emphasis on the NOW and not two days.
  20. Starting a new job.. advice?

A lot of people swear by Grey's Anatomy scrubs. They are nice but I am finding that I prefer Butter Soft by Uniform Advantage. I like Butter Soft better because it's more cotton and helps prevent you from feeling sweaty after all the baths/beds you w...
  21. Washing those scrubs?

I own so many scrubs it is shameful. I do laundry about once a month and I work full time (3 days/week). So you can imagine how many scrub sets I have. I bought a new pair about a month and a half ago. I'm finding I prefer Butter Soft by Uniform Adva...
  22. Possible Drug Possession and Paraphernalia

Your best bet is to have your "friend" claim the drugs and state that they are not yours.
  23. Bags or totes for work

I just use the medium sized backpack that the hospital gave to us during nurses' week. It has the hospital logo on it and it's large enough for everything I bring to work. (Makeup bag, umbrella, bottle of water, some food stuffs, medicines for headac...
