  1. I think that you could have asked your questions and got your point across without sharing the graphic details.
  2. My advice is to check your facility's P&P on POLST. My understanding is that a POLST is a patient driven document. It is about the patient's or responsible party's choice and then in collaboration with the MD, he/she signs it. Sounds like the SSD has tried to contact the conservator, too bad the conservator/supervisor signature is taking so long. A nurse getting suspended just for questioning the patient's code status...something not right there!!
  3. yes, what is "pulling milk?" (I am almost afraid to ask):uhoh21:
  4. The office staff I spoke to obviously isn't going to admit that he 'did wrong' in charging me for asking questions but I could tell from their voices they felt awkward in trying to justify his actions. They kept telling me I'll have to talk to him about it. He returns from vacation in a could of days. I think it is ridiculous that they told you that you have to speak to the doctor directly about it. They should be able to explain it to you. Can you ask to speak to the office manager? (or maybe you already did) or the doctors billing department, some if not most docs have a billing company that does the billing for them and you can have them explain it to you. Good luck, it sounds frustrating :smackingf
  5. Congratulations!! 23 is young to achieve this. Don't let anyone bring you down or rain on your parade!!! You are doing great!!:anpom:
  6. I don't think it is appropriate to show that much cleavage in any work place, I doubt she can't afford proper clothing and the affair is his business if they carry on in front of him and he has to see it. The fact they expose it in the work place is very inappropriate and is sexual harrassment. I once had to know about my coworkers affair with a married man who worked in the same place as we did and it ****** me off to know & hear about. As for being nurses and seeing skin..just because I am a nurse doesn't mean I want to see everyone's stuff...you mean you wouldn't mind seeing a male coworkers package because you are a nurse and you have seen it all before!! These exhibitionist (his coworker) need to have some self respect
  7. A few days ago, I entered a patient room and heard a CNA being very aggressive with the patient she was tranfering. She actually said to him "if nobody was watching, I would slap you". Later, (same CNA), she heard me tell a resident "So&So is your CNA, she can assist you if you need help". She told me "Dont tell them my name!! If I do something wrong, I am gonna tell them my name is Trubie... Trubie trubie Trubie" This is actually verbal/emotional abuse/intimidation and you are a mandated reporter, required by law to report this...and not just to the DON, which was a good start but you are required to fill out a SOC 341 Elder abuse form and send/fax it to the Ombudsman and Dept of Health. You seem like a conscientious nurse, I am sure they are happy to have you there and sounds like you do a good job but you could get in trouble for not reporting this and don't let your DON intimidate you, just show her the law which is probably outlined in your facility's P&P Good luck with it all
  8. In my state only an RN can conducts assessments, so you would be responsible for assessing the residents (especially if the resident is experiencing a problem). Making frequent rounds yourself would be essential and always give and get report from the LVNs at the beginning and end of the shift.
  9. You did an AWESOME thing, don't worry, events like this do take a while to calm down from, you are probably going over and over it in your mind but that seems normal, you acted courageously!!
  10. you seem like a very compassionate nurse, I am sure you didn't miss anything
  11. I agree with this post. Patient safety is at risk, I am sure you can report this anonymously if you prefer or are afraid of retaliation.
  12. A survey is a federal process not state so any state laws or lack of would not apply. Your facility (like most LTCs) would be a voluntary participant in the Medicare program and therefore subject to survey/inspection and answering any questions that arise. Good luck
  13. I have never heard of a list like this. Sounds like slander/libel to me. Do the employers make these lists?
  14. Don't feel bad (as indicated by your unsmiley face on post title)..you have a condition and you are taking care of it, should not affect your ability to be a nurse..we all have something that could affect us but as long as aware and taken care of it should be ok, good luck in school
  15. Sounds like the 8 hour day shift would give you and your family a better quality of life and time together, working nights is hard if you can't adjust to it...you shouldn't have to live exhausted..good luck
