Ontario New Grad Initiative, but graduate years ago
I believe you are no longer eligible for the NGGI, however please call HFO to confirm. Call their 416 number if you are within the GTA and you should get a live person easily who will be able to answer your question. Have you been applying since you received your pass result in November 2012? Either way congratulations on passing and I wish you success of your job hunting!

Repeating failed clinical. Concerned about possibility of showing transcript.
I'm a recent grad and I was never asked to present a transcript. For the NGGI, if you are a successful candidate they do ask for a copy of your degree, I believe for funding purposes. Also in an interview I was asked which year I started my program and which year I completed it. The interviewer was definitely checking to ensure I did it within the 4 years. However, I don't think you have much to worry about. The primary concern is that you are registered and are in good standing.

CAMH job Vs Long Term Care job
Congratulations on the job offer. Definitely go ahead with CAMH. Apply for internal positions once you are able to do so. I would also see if there are any casual positions available at your current LTC facility so that you will have something just in case.

Ode to the New Nurse
Thank you so, so much.

Interview as a New Grad.
When I had interviews coming up allnurses and google were my best friends! There are many topics pertaining to interview questions right here on allnurses, seriously an abundance of information. Try focusing on clinical/situational questions while searching as those require critical thinking and may stump you if you're nervous. Also of course practice the most common questions asked during an interview - doesn't necessarily have to be nursing specific. Good luck!

Nursing shifts at Scarborough General
Lori, NRT is an abbreviation for "Nursing Resource Team" it's essentially the new term used for a nursing float pool within a few hospitals around the GTA (not sure if it is widely used elsewhere). OP - start times may differ from unit to unit. However I have typically heard of day shifts starting at either 0700, 0715 or 0730 so it would be safe to assume something within that time frame. Since you got the job it doesn't hurt to ask. Call HR or call the clerk on the unit explaining you are a new hire and would like to know. Good luck and congrats on the job!

Stephen Colbert recognizes nurses as Heroes
Anderson Cooper also had one of the nurses on his daytime talk show "Anderson." It's truly nice to see nurses getting the recognition they deserve. Anderson Cooper actually touched on how it peeved him how the Doctors were getting the bulk of the praise - stating that the nurses were "Unsung Heroes."

Do you apply when you don't meet all of the criteria???
It doesn't hurt to try and just apply. You have nothing to lose!

CRNE OCTOBER 2012
Davetoronto, The October CRNE is in three weeks and you just started preparing? Also, this is your third and final chance? If I were you I would highly consider backing out of this exam and plan to write in February. Good luck with whatever you do decide.

How Far do you want to go in your Nursing Education?
I'm a recent BScN grad and at the very least I will obtain my MSN. I am still looking into becoming an PHCNP within the community, public health or geriatric sector. I will probably shadow an NP to figure out if it is really something I would like to become. However, as of right now, MSN for sure.

Community/ Public Health Nursing in Ontario
As Jane has stated there are different areas within community/public health. As a visiting nurse (considered community) you have a good chance to obtain employment as a new graduate. Positions within public health, community health centres, case management etc typically require at the very minimum 1 year experience as an RN (Hospital/LTC etc). I have worked within the community while a nursing student in the office setting, developed great relationships with the nurse managers and HR but was still told that I would need 1 year of RN experience as strong assessment and facilitation skills are required. A friend of mine aspires to be a Public health nurse and had her consolidation at Toronto Public Health and was told the same thing, she would need 1 year RN experience. It's extremely tough to crack as a new grad. Not saying it's impossible. Just saw your recent reply: Looks like your describing the side that I thought and they usually require experience (1 year min. as stated). Many public health and community health centres need volunteers so I would definitely volunteer if you are able to. As far as credentials go - you could look at employment listings to see the qualifications of positions you're interested in. Positions usually require a BScN and experience. For management a masters. For a specific area it is usually stated a certificate in the area is preferred (Certified geriatric nurse, certified diabetes educator etc..) and experience with the specific population. Good luck! :)

June 2012 CRNE Test Writers/Results
I sincerely hope that the writers of 2015 and beyond will have the privilege of knowing their results within days instead of over a month. The wait was one of the worst parts about this whole ordeal.

CRNE June 2012
RN-2012, I hope so too. I remember hearing that in the GTA you can expect your mail anywhere from 9am - 4pm. Depends on the mail load. Also remember, since it was sent out on Friday it could arrive as early as Monday (today) or as late as Wednesday. Doylyngal - My friend lives in north Brampton. Not sure if I could get too specific but near the hospital. Melovepia - I checked at 1230pm and saw the mail lady placing mail in the slots! :) I am sending positive energy your way! Sincerely wishing you all the best. Haven't seen anyone post a fail here yet so hoping that the pass rate was high!!

CRNE June 2012
Hello everyone! Would just like to share the news that with God's good grace I have passed the CRNE. I am in the GTA (Mississauga/Brampton area). I am overwhelmed and I truly believe if it were not for this website allnurses I do not know if I would have been prepared. All the admins/guides/regular contributors have truly been an excellent source, so for that I thank you! I will put together my study guide and what worked for me when I have calmed down and share with you all on here in this thread :). God is so good!

How to thank nurses who were helpful at clinical?
I'm happy to hear many people on here agree a note would be sufficient. I also have had an exceptional preceptor this semester and was wondering if it would be appropriate. I never thought about giving a note to the nurse manager but I will definitely do that, my preceptor was amazing and deserves the recognition! I've actually encountered a few other helpful nurses other than my preceptor on the particular unit I was placed at and was wondering if you all think a fruit plate or something of the sort would be okay to leave in the nursing office or lounge/lunch room on my last day? Or is that a little much? Thanks, sorry to hijack OP.

i finally made it!!!
You are an inspiration. I remember when I was in highschool having my biology teacher pull me aside telling me that I should choose a different career path because with my bio grades I wouldn't make it into any bscn program. That was in gr.11, the following year I got an 85 in bio and made it into a top nursing school in my city straight from high school. Now I am in my 3rd year. Live your dream and never let anyone tell you want you can or cannot do. You know yourself the best. Congrats and wishing you all the best in your future ventures. With your perseverance, determination and dedication - you will surely make a fantastic nurse! Congrats once more - you are a nursing graduate!
