  1. I am beyond angry at this whole thing. I respect the police, but how dare they treat a nurse like that? I hope she does sue the police department. He should have at least been put on leave while the investigation is on-going. You cannot arrest or detain people just because you don't like the policy. If you want the blood get a warrant, can't get a warrant, not the nurse's problem. I am also disappointed in the hospital/ university police for not stepping in.
  2. I did not have a good experience with Capella. Your experience may be different, but for me I'm in a lot of student loan debt and ended up quitting without a degree.
  3. Bathment When your patient needs a bed bath and assessment at the same time. I use the term with my students (usually in a long-term care setting) from time to time.
  4. 1. Never forget you are taking care of humans...not just a room number. 2. Everyone has bad days, it will get better 3. Document EVERYTHING, if you don't have time at the moment, make yourself a note. 4. Always carry extra pens (and a small notepad in your pocket) 5. Extra clothes can save your day sometime... don't forget the socks.
  5. I've been working in a community college nursing program full time for 3 years. The best part by far is the time off (although I can't take it when I want to). I also enjoy knowing I will be off every weekend.
  6. Actually north campus only has a LVN program, not a transitional. To answer your last question, they accept so many applicants for example 60. If 60 people made 90+ then the cut off is 90. If 60 people made 85+ then the cut off is 85.
  7. I just graduated with my MSN. I work for a college and it took my boss and I to find someone to precept me. It was not easy. Most hospitals/ colleges just told me no. I honestly thought I would not graduate because I could not find a preceptor. Thank goodness I finally did, even then there was issue after issue. I'm glad it is over! Good luck in finding someone.
  8. I am contracted for 35 hours and any "overload" time must be added to that. I usually spend 35+ hours on campus, but the vast majority of that is in the classroom teaching. I do some grading/ prep at home, but it is done on my time. My employer wants the faculty to be on campus in case students need us.
  9. I become a RN at 22. During school I was a babysitter, worked at Macy's and at one point filled medical records.
  10. I started teaching with a little over 3 years of experience. I teach practical/ vocational nursing, which is different than ADNs. I have had no problem teaching the first semester students including clinical. I think one year is a little extreme, but I do not agree with requiring a lot of experience either. If a school requires a lot of experience, they are guaranteeing that only older nurses will teach in their program. I think the schools need younger nurses as well. The minimum in my state is 3 years. Just my
  11. I agree. I LOVE allnurses.com!!!!
  12. Thanks everyone for your good ideas. I like the massage certificate...for myself! No, I don't think I will give any students any phone numbers for other students no matter how cute.
  13. I can teach with my BSN while working on my MSN. So for that reason I am glad I got my BSN. I wish you the best of luck in your future!
  14. We will be having a new student orientation soon at my college. During the process, we have drawings. We always give away a textbook or study aid, but what would be something you would want to get for free? We have had suggestions such as highlighters, post-its, index cards, and notebooks. Someone suggested a computer, but our budget is NOT that big. Do any of you have suggestions of items you would like to receive? Thanks for your input!:heartbeat
  15. I will hopefully graduate from my MSN program in the spring (2012). I have been going to school and working both on a full-time basis. It can be stressful and difficult, but in my opinion it is doable.
  16. Can I ask who your teacher is? You can send me a private message if you don't want to post on here. I suggest you read the chapters and play attention to boxes and charts. Good Luck on Wednesday!!! :)
  17. Well, I for one am thankful that my school does not take my student's evaluations that seriously. I feel horrible for your friend. Most of the time, the students who respond to the evaluations are the ones that have something negative to say about me. I had 3 out of 26 reply and all of them had at least one negative thing to say about me.
  18. I am going to guess and say that the HESI score was the issue. The higher the better, of course.
  19. No, you do not disect anything in the VNSG A & P class. 99% of the time, the classes really do last the entire time. It is a lot of information that has to be covered. Hope that helps answer some questions.
  20. A lot of places L & D is 1:1 once they are in active labor.
  21. You may wish to consider that north classes are evening classes this summer.
  22. Congrats!!! North hasn't made any decisions yet on who will get in the summer program.
  23. I know this thread is old, but I give my students a google voice number. It rings to my phone, but is not that hard to change numbers.
  24. I'm not in anyway saying Bevill is perfect. It is not and they could be more organized. But it is wrong to assume this is ALL the schools fault. Do you know how precetorship works? The HOSPITAL chooses which nurses to assign students to. Then the school assigns those nurses to the students. We had issues with nurses only working part time after we were assigned to them. The school only knows what the hospital tells them. I think we should keep that in mind. :)
