Video RN screaming, dragged into police car d/t refused blood draw on unconscious patient!
I am beyond angry at this whole thing. I respect the police, but how dare they treat a nurse like that? I hope she does sue the police department. He should have at least been put on leave while the investigation is on-going. You cannot arrest or detain people just because you don't like the policy. If you want the blood get a warrant, can't get a warrant, not the nurse's problem. I am also disappointed in the hospital/ university police for not stepping in.

Online Doctoral programs
I did not have a good experience with Capella. Your experience may be different, but for me I'm in a lot of student loan debt and ended up quitting without a degree.

What do you like most about being a nurse educator?
I've been working in a community college nursing program full time for 3 years. The best part by far is the time off (although I can't take it when I want to). I also enjoy knowing I will be off every weekend.

San Jacinto College LVN Spring 2013 Admission
Actually north campus only has a LVN program, not a transitional. To answer your last question, they accept so many applicants for example 60. If 60 people made 90+ then the cut off is 90. If 60 people made 85+ then the cut off is 85.

Preceptors for MSN online Educators
I just graduated with my MSN. I work for a college and it took my boss and I to find someone to precept me. It was not easy. Most hospitals/ colleges just told me no. I honestly thought I would not graduate because I could not find a preceptor. Thank goodness I finally did, even then there was issue after issue. I'm glad it is over! Good luck in finding someone.

For full time faculty...
I am contracted for 35 hours and any "overload" time must be added to that. I usually spend 35+ hours on campus, but the vast majority of that is in the classroom teaching. I do some grading/ prep at home, but it is done on my time. My employer wants the faculty to be on campus in case students need us.

What career did you have before nursing?
I become a RN at 22. During school I was a babysitter, worked at Macy's and at one point filled medical records.

How much experience makes a good instructor?
I started teaching with a little over 3 years of experience. I teach practical/ vocational nursing, which is different than ADNs. I have had no problem teaching the first semester students including clinical. I think one year is a little extreme, but I do not agree with requiring a lot of experience either. If a school requires a lot of experience, they are guaranteeing that only older nurses will teach in their program. I think the schools need younger nurses as well. The minimum in my state is 3 years. Just my

What would you want?
Thanks everyone for your good ideas. I like the massage certificate...for myself! No, I don't think I will give any students any phone numbers for other students no matter how cute.

What would you want?
We will be having a new student orientation soon at my college. During the process, we have drawings. We always give away a textbook or study aid, but what would be something you would want to get for free? We have had suggestions such as highlighters, post-its, index cards, and notebooks. Someone suggested a computer, but our budget is NOT that big. Do any of you have suggestions of items you would like to receive? Thanks for your input!:heartbeat
