Stupid people don't pass hardworking people do. I got B's and C's in my pre-reqs because I was too stupid to work for it. I got denied, denied, denied from NS for years. So, I took over my pre-reqs, tried harder and got A's. I reapplied to nursing school and finally got in. Now I am almost halfway thru and I am a straight A nursing student in an accelerated graduate program. It's not because I'm smart, I struggle every single day. It's because I put in the work, the time, and the effort. Change your frame of mind, really evaluate what is important to you, and do everything that you can to get it. When it comes down to it it is not the "smart" people who succeed in life because there is no such thing. It is the people who are smart enough to know what they want and who are willing to put in the blood, sweat, and tears (oh so many stress induced tears) to get it.

I was just offered a seat starting this fall @ Azusa!!! Don't give up hope I was rejected for this Fall cohort AND Spring 2012 and they gave me a spot super last minute. It can happen to you too!!!!

Glad I found this thread but it is all very confusing. Is it possible to go to USU, work as an RN, and then eventually do your NP elsewhere? Like will their credits transfer?

Regarding this I had to take over pre-reqs for some schools while others did not require it. I was told by admissions to mention this in either my essay or my interview so that the admission board did not think I was taking them over because I had forgotten everything or was trying to inflate my gpa. I think it shows that you are serious about pursuing nursing because you aren't letting obstacles such as recency to get in your way.

Are you sure there are no recency requirements? I'm in the same boat as you took some of my science pre-reqs 10 years ago, got a BS and MS in another field but am now applying to ADN, ABSN, and ELMSN programs in CA. I have found that at most schools I am applying to there is some sort of recency. Some even have them on general ed. classes! Yes, there are a handful that don't have them but if I were you I would double check to save time and money when you apply. I'm not trying to discourage but I just went through a heck of a time applying to some programs only to get rejected over recency issues that I would hate for another person to go through it. Sounds like me! How long ago did you take these classes? I know in my case that they have expired for most of the programs I've been applying to so I just took them over and got A's the second time around. I even took them at the same school and usually they have a strict no repeat policy so I challenged them. I talked to deans/counselors, was persistent, and was able to get cleared for the classes when I showed them that they had expired and would not be accepted for transfer into a nursing program. I showed them I would be stuck at the cc otherwise. If the expiration of classes doesn't apply to you take them over at a different school. If that is an issue get yourself on a waitlist in the meantime until you figure out what to do. I have a friend who I took my pre-reqs with who had all C's and she is halfway through her nursing program because she put herself on a waitlist years ago. I have a higher gpa but didn't get on a waitlist years ago and I'm still trying to get into school. Better safe than sorry. Sure you may be waiting for a few years but it is better than not holding a spot at all. Good luck to you.

Good point. Everyone I talked to was from the SON not the actual university. So who knows if they were counselors, admin. assistants or what have you. I've also learned (because my husband almost got screwed over by misinformation provided by his nursing program) that anytime you talk to someone about application requirements you should always get their name, the date, and contact info. That way if months down the road they backtrack on what was said you can pull up exactly who you talked to and when and defend yourself.

There should be some sort of grandfathering in for those of you already on the waitlist. I know at various universities if they add some random requirement for graduation but you have already been accepted or are a continuing student your grad requirements only apply to the catalog year in which you started. It seems unfair that they could just add on extra classes when you have already fulfilled the courses required of you when you applied. I would check with the program director forget about secretaries. Also, if they make you take it I would talk to a counselor and raise hell about how this has messed up your acceptance time line and make them clear you for those courses. Good luck!

I know this is an old thread but in case anyone in the future looks this up I wanted to help. Yes ISP is WASC accredited BUT not every school takes their classes!!!! For example CSUF will but CSULB will not. They are both ELMSN programs and in the Cal State system but CSULB still won't take ISP classes even though they have the correct accreditation. I talked to different people at CSULB's SON to double and triple check that ISP classes were not valid and they all said absolutely not. One lady even said that CSULB doesn't accept "those type of weekend only classes". A funny thing about CSUF as well, on their web site it says that ISP's Micro and A&P are transferable but there is no mention of whether or not the Chem from ISP is ok. It just isn't on their list of class equivalencies. Weird. Anyway, make sure before you pay all that $$$$ to go to ISP that you actually contact the schools you are applying to to make sure that they will even take the classes. You'll save yourself from heartache if for any reason the school you are dying to get into ends up not taking them.

During my interview I was told that for Spring they have 20 spots for both SD and SB and around 200 applicants competing for each site. I think that they take more into their Azusa cohort, but I don't remember the exact number.

I've applied to all three sites for APU and the nursing grad advisor told me that the person to talk to about what I am lacking is ----. I emailed her earlier this week and haven't heard from her. Is it better to call? I don't want to be pushy by emailing and calling a bunch but it is killing me not knowing what I am doing wrong.

My friend applied for the April cohort originally but they couldn't secure a clinical site or something so they forwarded his application for July. He went in for his interview in the middle of April and he found out today he was accepted. Good luck to you! Hope you hear back soon.

Thanks for the info! I applied in Fall and still haven't gotten anything not even a lottery number. I kind of forgot about it because I applied to so many schools but going through these threads reminded me that I should look into it.

I got my rejection letter from Azusa today. I'm so bummed. Guess I'm on to year three of the application cycle and taking over more pre-reqs that are expiring I still am crossing my fingers for the rest of you!

Mine was horribly boring. I stopped going to class and only showed up for tests and still got an A. It completely depends on the teacher and what they expect of their students though because I loved Developmental Psych. administered by a different prof. and I thought it was much more challenging and worth going to.

Did you talk to someone @ the Azusa, San Diego, or San Bernardino site? I'm so nervous. I hope they didn't mail out the acceptances first. Fingers crossed it was a mixed mailing. I'm going to be sitting by my mailbox all week. Best of luck to everyone!

Keeps your grades up and volunteer, volunteer, volunteer. I would recommend the clinical care extender program through COPE health solutions. Some of Western's faculty are involved with this program and they hold it in high regard. Best of luck!

Apply to both. If you get into both take into consideration the cost and how much it will affect your family. If after this point they are still pretty neck and neck go for what will award you the higher degree. Good luck!

I've taken my science pre-reqs at both comm. colleges and a university. I have even taken over some pre-reqs due to recency requirements. Three science classes were taken at two different CCs and two classes were taken at the university. My CC classes were so much harder, even the ones I repeated to update although they were essentially review!!! To me it is all subjective and heavily based on what your particular professor expects of you (those sadists ) . My CC profs just wanted more out of me than my university professors did. Obviously, when it comes down to an acceptance or denial @ a point system oriented NS the higher the gpa the better off you are. If the school you are applying to doesn't take into consideration volunteer work, life experience, interviews, etc. those gpa points are life or death no matter where they come from. In the end, there is simply no time effective way for these programs to compare apples and oranges when they have 200+ applicants for each cohort. You just have work hard and do your best or be waitlisted like the rest.

On the other hand I was granted an interview at another school while he was not. When I asked them if they took into consideration gender they said that while others schools do they do not. They said when they looked at apps they don't even look at the candidate's name let alone gender. So my experience only pertains to what I have gone through personally.

My husband and I applied to all of the same ADN programs. We have the exact same science gpa but I have a higher overall gpa. I have 3 degrees (AA, BS, MS) and have more volunteer experience while he has an EMT license. He was accepted to one ADN school after a 9 month wait while I was declined. Other than that one school he was accepted to we were both declined from all other schools. He is in his third semester of ADN while I am still applying everywhere. A little birdie told him at his school they can fast track certain students on their waitlist into acceptance. He was fast tracked while I was not. Makes you wonder....
