  1. I took the NCLEX today 6/28 also. My results are also "on hold" according to Pearson. I have no idea why. I didnt leave, didnt take a break, and didnt even touch my white board until question 10 or so.
  2. It depends on the school, but I don't think you can have each step done at 2 different places. I work at an urgent care clinic, and we do really cheap shots and physicals, so we get alot of health students - and when they come in wanting step two, but ahd step one done elsewhere we won't do it.
  3. It is the stomach one. Usually before prescribing naproxen the dr finds out if the patient has a history of stomach problems. Excessive naproxen use leads to gastritis, ulcers and gastric bleeding
  4. My school breaks down a little different, we do all the a&p, micro, nutrition, etc, then we start clinicals AFTER that, so most people only have one class - they group the class, clinical and lab together so its one unit and counts as 12 credits, which is full time. Anyway, to answer your question, I can't study for hours on end I lose focus. I study for 3, 30 min sessions. So 1 1/2 hrs per day.
  5. I would wait until next year honestly. I know my school wants everything recent, meaning a TB test only within 3 months prior of classes beginning, they wont accept any background checks, physicals, etc if they are done too far in advance.
  6. I have a littman as well and had it engraved. Sadly, stethoscopes are often swiped by other students, a nice one is expensive. With my name on it, I know it wont go missing.
  7. I don't know what text you have but mine had off-label uses next to each drug, and I cant think of the name but there was an parkinson's drug that became an anti-viral med, and alot of psych drugs have off label uses too welbutrin is used for depression and smoking cessation
  8. My method for studying all of my classes is the same - about 20-30 minutes per class 2-3 times per day, every day as a constant review. I review the pp, and I review my own notes. Then 2 -3 days prior to a test/quiz I re-write my notes, then review the text corresponding to the pp and notes from lecture. I do this each day, 3 days in a row before the annoucned test/quiz. I cannot sit for hours on end studying, I lose interest and get antsy, so I break it up. It works well for me. When I struggle with something I write it over and over and over until I get it. I use my own notes, plus the pp, plus the text to get like 3 different perspectives on the same material, which also helps. I have pharm now and A&P 2 and have a perfect 100 average in each class.
  9. I was working full time and when I returned to school last summer they wouldnt let me step down to work part time and I was laid off. I now work part time 20-25 hours a week and collect partial unemployment. Thankfully in my state the benefits should last until Im done in another year.
  10. I am in the same position actually. I applied for a NA job, and just had an interview 3 days ago, however, when I applied I was told I only needed my CPR certification, which I have but once in the interview I was told I needed a year of clinical rotation behind me as well, and I start clinical in June. Then today I got a call, and she asked if I wanted a secretary position, sat and sun 3-11, Im def. going to take it. Im dying to get any expierence working in the hospital.
  11. I got in too!!! Congratulations! Im so excited, i didnt I was getting in my GPA is great but I did terrible on the DET, maybe Ill see you in the fall! What classes do you have now?
  12. I was terrified going into A&P and it only got worse when I learned I had the hardest prof at my school. I got an A - but I worked my butt off. He didnt use the book, but I re-wrote lecture notes daily, multiple times to get the material into my skull. I had flashcards, but honestly they didn't help me. What helped me was re-writing material over and over and reading it aloud to myself.
  13. dont get down - when you graduate the job market will be different than it is now anyway, a great deal also depends on the area - my area is in desperate need of nurses and they hire grads before they even take the nclex (obviously with a contract stating employment depends on passing) some areas have a nursing hiring freeze, you can always relocate if thats the case by you
  14. Im at LCCC now, and I pray getting into the nursing program for the fall. It is very challenging. It will only take 2 years, but because of that all information is crammed into a short period of time. I know a few LPNS at LCCC, attempting to get into the program, and didn't because they didn't have As in their A&P courses.
  15. I am also at lccc, I am hoping to get into their program but also applied to Miseri - which is where I would suggest. A minimum 3.0 is required, and they look at how many pre-reqs you completed, they also look at your high school GPA, min. 3.0 and SAT scores. LCCC students get alot of help, they get a grant automatically, and are considered for tons of transfer scholarships. I wouldnt recommend Wilkes, the passing rates on the boards are very low, low to the point that they may lose funding and have to close the nursing program.
  16. I loved the endocrine system... my teacher focused mostly on disorders, and if it came from hyper or hypo and what hormone triggered it, and what hormone would counter it. The endocrine system does so much, its really hard to summarize it, but I think the easiest way I learned it, was we took by gland, then looked at each hormone - what triggered its release, where the release came from, what its release regulated and then what hyper or hypo release would cause
  17. I want to be an NP and Im 27 myself. So, I know I have years of school ahead and want to get it done asap, currently Im in a 2 year RN program, I plan to work a year or so, and three universities in my area offer a RN to MSN program with either CRNA or NP which takes only 2 years, Id suggest that if its an option
  18. I know, I dont get any of my grades until Tuesday, Im DYING!!!!
  19. Everyone is different, and alot depends on the teacher also. Currently Im taking A&P, lifespan development, alegbra and a soc elective, and I only work 15 hours a week and at times feel that is too much. But... I got the hardest prof at my school for A&P, if you feel you can manage your time well and still devote hrs for studying while working, then youll be fine.
  20. Im at LCCC now, finishing my pre-reqs, and hopefully getting into the program for fall of 2011. My brother is in the program, and one of my good friends is as well, they both have said its great, alot of work but they love it. Ive heard horror stories of how hard it is to get in though.
  21. I'm holding a 97 average in A&P as of now, here is what has helped me: 1) start preparing now, go to the A&P help sticky thread, print out the notes and review them, doing a chapter every week or so, you should be able to review it all by the time the class starts, this helped me tremendously, just already having the info in my head 2) get an A&P for dummies book and/or flash cards, again start reviewing them NOW. 3) If you can get the text now and again start reading the chapters, learning the terms, etc 4) research your prof if possible, my teacher had a website and I knew several people who had him, learn how they teach, how the test so you know what you'll be in for, mine loves essay tests and learning this before hand helped me study in a way where I knew I couldnt just memorize but I had to know the theories 5) Once in the class, review your notes daily, even if only for 20 minutes, cramming never works.
  22. The first three chapters are the cell, chem and overview of terms. They are very easy. My teacher expected us to know it all, so I just reviewed it all over the summer. Read over the chapters and do the review work at the end and you should be fine
  23. Currently in my class we have a "quiz" but its 80-100 questions every Tues and a lab quiz every Thurs. The teacher jumps around alot, and refuses to cover the first 3 chapters because he insists its what we should have learned in pre-reqs of chem and bio, so we did a brief overview of digestion, nervous and cardiovascular, just finished tissues, had our mid-term and we're doing reproductive and embryo development the next 3 weeks then endocrine and urinary and then bones and final
  24. I agree that it depends on you. I work 20 hours a week, and am taking A&P, human development, advanced algebra, and survey of drugs and addiction and Im pulling all As, it you manage your time and study I think youll be fine
  25. I bought an access code, and it was well worth it. There are so many practice quizzes, tests and activities.
