ALWAYS get the correct amount of staff for a bath or transfer. I was working as an LPN in a nursing home....all the cnas were in a mandatory meeting and it was just me and another LPN on the floor. A very demanding 450 # bedbound patient demanded that we take her off of the bedpan that very second...so the two of us did it...she was a 4-5 person transfer/assist. I am 5 ft 3 in and 120 # btw...Over one year later, I am still paying for it. My feet have never really bothered me except for the time a patient ran over my toes with his power chair. It is always my back.

I am having trouble differentiating between the different lung sounds...such as rhonchi , wheezes, etc. Can anyone offer any advice?

Once I had an elderly woman (can't really remember what was wrong with her , but I do know we did not expect her to pass away) who kept telling the staff that her mother was at the foot of the bed and she was going to be "taking her away" soon. Everyone just brushed it off and didn't take her seriously. Sure enough she passed away within the next 48 hours after she started seeing her mother.

I would work in a book store or bakery....or maybe just stay at home :). Wouldn't even think of going back to nursing. It is so stressful somedays.

What in the world? Library books? Ahhh the library is one of my favorite places to go! I didn't know about that

I once had a patient that was over 500 pounds and could never find a b/p cuff big enough. I would always end up using the wrist. Try that.

I have a job interview coming up soon. I really want this job. I am 3 1/2 months pregnant. I won't be using the insurance and I don't plan on returning to work after the baby is born. Do I tell them in the interview that I am pregnant? I am not showing yet...Have gotten mixed opinions from my family so I decided to post it on here.

I used the EC practice exams, an NCLEX PN review book (i got it at the beginning of LPN school and found it a few weeks ago ..it had never been used) and a Med surg book from LPN school. I passed Life Span 1 today...with a "C" ...i'll take it. I hate cardio/resp..so I am so glad to get this over with.

I have been an LPN for two years. I am from rural TN but have also lived near seattle washington for a while. I have never had to go more than 3 weeks without a job. I even had a job interview for a nurse internship for a dialysis center. When I worked home health, I made 2 dollars more than what a new grad RN makes starting out on the med surg floor at the local hospital :).

Why don't you mind your own business? I am an LPN and do stuff like this all the time, as long as there is an RN who cosigns within 24 hours. Seriously, don't you have more important stuff to worry about?

A CNA injured herself (not on the job) ...it was her hand. She comes to work ,sits down and says "oh man I need another Vicodin, my hand is hurting...I took one before I left and I am feeling sleepy now , but Ill be okay" She says she had a script from her doctor. In my experience , Vicodin always knocks me out when I have had to take it for a broken bone or something....but anywoo do you think this is acceptable? What would you have done?

I say find a job you really like even if it means a pay cut...then take some advice from Dave Ramsey and make yourself a budget.

If I were you I'd take the HH job for sure. I got really really burnt out working at a SNF. Im sure they both have there pros and cons. You'll probably learn a lot of skills in the SNF (they are like mini-hospitals now days it seems like). But I would guess that the HH job would be less stressful.

I once had a Levadopa in one med cup and a Lortab in another and gave them to the wrong patients! My heart sank in my chest when I realized what I had done. :uhoh21:. Everything was okay thank goodness. Everyone makes mistakes ...so I wouldn't worry. Learn from your mistakes, it will make you better at your job. :)

Every job that I have ever gotten (except for 1), I would fill out the application / turn in my resume. Then if they don't call back in a 2-3 weeks I will go and talk to them in person, once I even asked to tour the facility since I had never been in it before, they said yes and a week later I got the job! Try that, it might work. Have you considered applying for unit secratary or tech jobs? I know ..it's not what you went to school for but maybe you could work at one of those for a while and move up the latter and work as a nurse. Good luck!

Dont answer your phone, let them leave voicemail and if you want to pick up the extra hours, then call them back. Thats what I do. I NEVER answer my phone when it's work calling. They ALWAYS leave a voicemail.

I forgot to add that this person has worked days and eves for the past few months prn , so she knows all the residents well.
