Question about being a new grad and a new mommy....
I got pregnant during nursing school..I went through four semesters pregnant and after I had the baby, I still had two to go. I graduated on time and took my boards soon after. I'm saying all that to say that it can be done, school and baby. When I started working as a graduate nurse, I went through a six week orientation then went on my own. However, I was lucky. The hospital I work at has a daycare. That played a large part in deciding where I wanted to work. And I work 12 hour shifts and they are open thatlong everyday. So, look into any hospitals if any that have day care, that may make things a little easier. If not, don't give up. You can definitely finish school and have a baby. One of my classmates had twins and took a semester off but still finished. So it can be done. Good luck.......

mommies and clinicals
For my situation, I went to school part time. It was two semesters longer but easier on my family b/c I had clinicals on Saturdays and my lectures were only one day a week. The only time I had weekday clinicals were psych and then leadership/practicum, but that was at the end of everything. I would suggest looking into part time if your school has it. It is much easier on family life if you have difficulty with child care. I also had a baby while in school but was still able to finish and graduate on time b/c the part time program was less stressful than full time. I took my boards in June and passed the first time. So, I was just giving you a different perspective of things, something to think about.

passed with 100 questions no new format
I Got 101 Questions, No Calculations And One New Format. I Was Surprised Too That There Were Not More New Format. But Just So You'll Know, They Are Still Testing The New Questions So They Are Just Trial Questions Right Now. That May Be Why You Didn't Get Any. Anyway, You, As Well As All Of Us Who Haved Passed Recently, Made It This Far. You Have What It Takes To Be A Rn.... I Worked As A Gn While I Studied For Boards And Things Started Coming Back To Me From Clinicals. Just Don't Forget To Tell Your Preceptors That You Are Still Learning. I Remind My Coworkers That All The Time, That Even Though I Am A Rn Now, There Are Still Things I Am A Nurse, I Don't Know Everything. But You Will Be Fine, So Don't Worry Yourself.

Advice for career and NCLEX
Please Don't Let One Bad Experience Determine Your Whole Career. Sometimes These Preceptors Forget They Were Once Students And Learning. They Become Rns And Develop This Attitude Like They Are Better Than Students. But, Don't Let That Get You Down. Once You Decide Where You Want To Work, I'm Sure The Preceptors You Have Then Will Be More Helpful. I Got Lucky To Get On A Floor Where Everyone Is Always Willing To Help And Teach, Even The Cnas. And As Far As The Nclex, I Personally Didn't Like The Kaplan Review. I Read The Book Once And Never Picked It Up After That. I Used Saunders, Lippincott, Nclex 3000, And Mosby's Flash Cards. I Didn't Score That Well On The Practice Tests Either, But I Got 101 Questions On The Exam And Passed The First Time. So, You Can Do It And You Will Find Where You'll Belong. There Are So Many Things You Can Do, You May End Up Somewhere Where You Don't Do Bedside Nursing, Who Knows....keep Your Head Up!!!!!

any advice?about to enter first sem. RN?
My Advice To You Is Do Not Give Up.....whatever You Do For However Long It Takes You To Finish, Do Not Let Anything Or Anyone Make You Quit School.. I Went Part Time To School.. When I Started, I Was Working A Full Time Job. When My School Schedule Began To Conflict With My Classes After A Year And A Half, I Got Laid Off 'cuz I Couldn't Work The Hours They Wanted Me Too. But, I Didn't Give Up. I Filed Unemployment And Kept Going. 2 Months After I Stopped Working, I Found Out I Was Pregnant. Still Didn't Stop.. I Went Thru My Whole Pregnancy In School And By The Time I Gave Birth, I Was In My Final Semester. I Graduated With My Class And I Just Recently Passed Boards. I Studied With My Baby In My Lap When I Had Too. I'm Saying All This To Say, That For My Situation, Things Got Really Rough. At One Point, Both My Husband And I Were Not Working, But I Didn't Let That Stop Me From Reaching My Dream. Whatever You Do, Finish School. You Will Feel Such An Accomplishment. I Know I Do. That's Just One Perspective Of It. Again, I Stress, Do Not Give Up. It Will Get Hard And Classes May Get Difficult, But Study, Read, Read, Read, And Learn As Much As You Can During Clinicals. You Will Be There Soon Enough.

Took Nclex Yesterday--need Some Encouraging Words!!
It sounds to me like you did o.k. Everyone i've seen on this board has said they thought they bombed and ended up passing. I also think it is a mind thing. I got 101 questions and passed but a classmate of mine that took it this past Monday, 7/19, got 265 and passed the first time. So, its really not the # of questions. But hang in there, I strongly believe you passed.

Where is everyone working?
I Started Working As A Gn Back In May On A Surgical/telemetry Floor. So, When I Passed Boards I Just Kept Working There. My Floor Is Mostly For People Post-op. And We Get Alot Of Gastric Bypass Cases. Its Very Busy And We Have A High Turnover Rate. But, So Far Its Been Interesting. I Have To Do Two Years Because Of A Scholarship I Got From School To Work At This Hospital, After That Time I Have To See What I'm Going To Do 'cuz I Really Want To Work In Labor And Delivery.

Questions About Ce..........
Now That We've All Taken The Test And Passed, Can Anyone Tell Me About The Continuing Education Credits. How Many Do We Need, And Are They A Requirement For License Renewal. And Do We Just Pick Subjects? Because I Have Several Magazine Subscriptions And They Always Have Ce Test That Can Be Done. If Anyone Has Any Info, I Would Really Appreciate It.

Thanks Guys
I Sort Of Agree With Rjflyn, I Was In A Hurry To Take Boards Listening To Other People. But When I Really Looked At It, I Wasn't Ready. I Intially Scheduled My Test For May 22nd. Then, I Posponed It Until June 19th. Boy, Was I Glad I Did That. I Went Back And Did More Practice Questions. And I Am Convinced That Helped Alot. You Said You Used Kaplan, Well I Read The Book (the $35.00 One), And To Be Honest, It Didn't Help Me At All. I Used Saunders, Lippincott, Nclex 3000 Disk, Mosby's Flash Cards, And Princeton's Review. Its Good To Use Different Resources Because You Get A Good Variety Of Questions.. I Do Agree, However, That You Do Take Some Time To Clear Your Head.. Relax For A Week Or Two, Do Some Things That You Couldn't While In School. Then, Come Back With A Different Approach To Studying. But Do Try To Do As Many Questions As Possible. Borrow Books If Other People You Know Have Them, Thats What I Did. And, I Wish You Luck On Your Next Attempt At The Exam.

My NCLEX Disaster
Take A Chill Pill. I'm Sure You Did Better Than You Are Giving Yourself Credit For. Relax, Relate, Release!!!!!! It Will Be Oer Soon And You Will Be Doing The Same Thing I Did When I Checked My Results.......looking, Staring At That Little Word "pass". Never Did One Word Mean So Much. But, Everyone Who Has Left The Exam Feeling The Way You Do Passed. So, Keep Your Head Up And All Will Turn Out Right!!!!!!!!
