  1. help a new scrub nurse

Are you primariliy scrubbing c-sections? If you are, then I can provide you with a handy-dandy study guide/procedure guide. PM me.
  2. help a new scrub nurse

Too many variables to make a handy list for you. It varies from procedure to procedure and surgeon to surgeon. The best thing you can do is learn the common procedures and learn the order in which things are done. One solid tip I can give you is to p...
  3. Nursing shortage in Texas

They are border towns. Not the greatest working/living conditions and/or patient populations.
  4. Question about LVN/LPN in Texas

Yes, there ARE still places that do this. It is just not advertised. I am a new grad and just started my first RN position and was offered a relocation/sign-on bonus. So it is possible. With that said, in the DFW area I would check out LifeCare Ho...
  5. New Grad programs in Texas

    Sent you a PM.
  6. Phone interview

Yep. I've been hired out of state with just a mere 10 minute phone interview before. Wishing you the best of luck!
  7. thoughts on a situation?

Gut instinct has a place in nursing. More often than not, you should trust it. It makes you a good patient advocate. Of note: Hypoxia=restlessness, agitation, confusion, etc... especially in the elderly!
  8. Is your facility currently hiring new grads?

Yes but it is not advertised. Is TX warm enough for you??
  9. Would You Feel Comfortable Doing This?

Usually I'm in the camp of "not a good idea to treat family." However, for something so simple, I think it's fine. Sounds like you knew how to complete an eye exam with a Snellen chart and you are licensed to make an assessment and document it. Not...
  10. Nursing student pass out??? I

Eat breakfast, snacks, lunch, more snacks... the worst mistake students make is thinking "If I eat, I will surely throw it back up..." Instead, you end up passed out cold on the floor from low blood sugar. Never lock your knees! As someone else sai...
  11. Venoscope II, Veinlight EMS/LED, transilluminators

I am sorry to hear of your health problems and your troubles. As a nurse I have to say that you can use all the fancy gadgets in the world you want when starting an IV but none of them hold a candle to someone who is truly good at starting IV's. An...
  12. Nursing school here I come!

My deepest sympathies... Just kidding! :ancong!:
  13. To the RN I just had hospital orientation with today....

You can always tell the nurses who were techs before they became nurses vs. those who were not...
  14. TX State Board of Nursing - Endorsement Legal Question

From the TX BON website: Eligibility Issues Applicants must be able to answer "No" to the following questions in order to use the online application. All other applicants may download a complete application packet. Review of applicants with eligibil...
  15. Have you thought about changing your stethoscope? If you're working on a cardiac floor, some patients may have very weak/thready pulses and this will be difficult to hear with a cheap stethoscope. Other advice would be to see if you can palpate the...
  16. Loving my job!!!

:smiley_aa CONGRATS! I love Women's healthcare as well, never seems to get old to me. I truly enjoy caring for women during their pregnancies, birth and their post-partum period. I feel very comfortable in this area and enjoy what I do.

  18. Took NCLEXRN April 1. Stopped around 80-85

Your post is rude and not real helpful to the OP.
  19. Took NCLEXRN April 1. Stopped around 80-85

You won't know until your official results come in. No one here can guess what your results are, only your BON knows. Best of luck.
  20. State or national back ground checks

For what? Nursing licensure?? Most are doing FBI background checks in addition to state screenings as far as I know.
  21. got yelled at today- for volunteering

wow. this was an interesting thread to sift through. while you've gotten plenty of admonishment already from posters... i think i have to agree with the masses. while your intentions were [somewhat] good, the execution was poor, at best. i believe yo...
  22. Faith-based Hospitals.. can anyone apply?

I don't know about that specific hospital system, but if they are an EOE, they cannot legally discriminate against you based on your own religious beliefs. However, if they do incorporate some sort of religious practice into their care I can see why...
  23. Using Interview at One Hospital to Speed Up HR at Dream Job?

This may have worked in the past but I doubt it would work in today's economy. There are so many nurses waiting to scoop up jobs, that if you told them you already have an offer elsewhere, they may just tell you to bugger-off rather than try and "fi...
  24. Faith-based Hospitals.. can anyone apply?

Yes, anyone can apply. They can't discriminate based on your own religious beliefs. Many non-religious people work for faith-based systems. There may be a cross hanging on the wall, or scripture quotes as decor but you're not forced to follow thei...
  25. Online/Website Job Applications

*sigh* It's very hard out there, especially in DFW. I agree, the area hospitals have basically the same online app process. It's exhausting filling out all that nonsense to just get a standard form email from them after you apply. And let's not ev...
