  1. Never been to Kansas City, but my guess would be that it would be a better environment to raise children in. I spent 7 years in the Phoenix suburbs and both my daughters were born there. I loved it and wasnt ready to return to the PNW, but our situation changed and it was our best option. I did however, know that I did not want to raise my children there. Too much concrete sprawl...and the school systems had their issues. I have always felt that the midwest would hold a simpler and kinder lifestyle...... I do miss those warm days floating in the pool at the house that we could never afford here where we are now!!!

Well I passed it! Next time time my renewal is due....I will have the CEs instead of retesting. Too much stress! PASS CCRN was a good resource. The CD with practice questions was great. I ended up taking study tests in each body system individually after the initial one that gave me a breakdown of percentages answered right per system. I did not use the book much though.....
  3. .....I am taking it in the morning.....I have had my CCRN since 92 and have always had to retest for renewal r/t not having enough CEs..... They have changed the test this summer. Only 150 questions now....this could be good or bad. I recommend going to Amazon.com, you will find reviews of the various study guides.... I think I am using "Pass CCRN' also......

Hi all, Has anyone out there taken the new version of the CCRN exam? Just came out this summer and has 150 quesions instead of 200. I have alway done my recertification by exam and am a little nervous about the new format?? Would appreciate any info...... Thanks! LesJen
  5. I just left a community hospital because of low census in our CCU. Dont know what happened to all of the patients but I too, was either floating or cancled. I now work at a large Trauma instituation and that will NEVER happen...

  9. Actually it works out good not being able to have drinks at the station....since we dont have time to pee, it is better not to have a chance to drink anything anyway....right?

There are so many types of lenses out there these days. There are ones especially for astigmatism and also for dry eyes..... A good doc will try you out on various lenses to find the most comfortable ones for your situation. You might need one type for the right eye and another type for the left eye and so on. There is no reason these days for lenses to be uncomfortable once you get used to them. I use weekly disposables which are very thin and comfortable. The longer you wear lenses the more minerals that build up on them which can make them feel bumpy and uncomfortable.....

...I ended up moving there because when I drove through I thought it was so beautiful and I couldnt get over Lake Shasta....it was a totally random move that I dont regret!

My husband and I met while working at RRedding Medical Center. The scenery there is beautiful, thats why we both moved there in the first place. I never worked at Mercy. RMC has gone through many difficulties lately....a big shake down over their main Cardiologist and CV surgeon doing unnecessary procedures...they were the big money makers for the hospital. So I am guessing that their heart program isnt what it used to be. I loved the hospital and the nurses that I worked with. The economy in Redding is poor, and has one of the highest welfare rates in the state....most sex offenders also... But....it is a nice place if you like outdoor activities.... Good luck
  16. Yeah! I phoned the manager last night....we spoke and I was honest about my issue with night shift. She was so understanding and nonjudgemental about it. I was offered a day shift position in the unit this morning!!!!!! Wow, I didnt expect she would want anything to do with me after my change of heart!
  17. I hear what you are saying and you are just being honest....I dont think that you should have received those negative responses. What made you fall for him initially? Marriage does get boring....husbands can become irritating (and vise-versa), and sex....well I to have no desire anymore...no bells and whistles because he doesnt listen to what I suggest. Looking back though....it was always like that and I guess I just hoped it would change. I totally have been/am where you are....
  18. Agree with everyone else on this....get him seen now....dont mess with it. Show him this thread if needed.....
  19. Thanks for the input....although I am still confused. I am leaning toward sticking it out.....or maybe not....
  20. might not be a bad idea with the way my marriage is going.....
  21. Days....everything else messes up the kids options..... I was told that "it shouldnt be too long" before something opens up. There are multiple night shift spots open still......
  22. Okay, I am sitting here this morning trying desperately to decide what to do.....I left my per diem position in ICU because I was not getting hours and was always floated to other areas. I accepted a position that really excites me at another facility....so much so that I accepted a night position in hopes that I would transfer to days soon. I start general hospital orientation on Monday. Now, I am realizing that I just cant do nights....I have worked nights in the past and loved it, but I was 10 years younger, single, and no kids. Now I have 2 young daughters at home, have been battling depression, and I dont think I could handle it. I have other options I can explore as far as jobs go..... Should I call and let the manager know and give up the position at this late moment? I know that orientation costs the facility a lot of money.....or should I go ahead with the position and hope days open up before orientation is over? If I give up the position will I be jepordizing future employement with this hospital? Is it a crappy thing for me to do? Help!
  23. The kid thing....I am heading to night shift in a few weeks myself. It has been 10 years. Back then I was single with no kids and loved working night shift. The hospital is a whole different place without all of the extra people that are around during the day. It is hard on the body though...... I now have 2 young children and am 10 years older and I have absolutely no idea how this is going to work out!!! Daycare costs will go up because I HAVE TO SLEEP otherwise I will be a mental/physical wreck. All you night shifters out there....do you sleep at all during the day before you start your first shift???
  24. Congratulations and enjoy!
