  1. sorry if this might be repetitive. I didn't read all 300 responses before replying but anyway... Never play a drinking game(the one where your friend tosses the bottle cap in your drink and then you have to drink your drink.) .....don't forget to take the bottle cap out before you swallow it hole and it gets stuck in your esophagus!!
  2. I have never heard of dysautonomia. What is it?
  3. There was no degrading comments done here. Lets be mature and leave this alone now. This is a nursing forum. Not a way to get at each other back and forth.
  4. I was simply agreeing. You can let it go now.:kiss
  5. My fiance is an RN in a surgical trauma ICU
  6. Well, disorganized schizophrenia is characterized by a flat affect, bizarre manerisms and social isolation. This type occurs early in life and is usually chronic.Undifferentiated schizophrenia is a category used when a pt's symptoms are mixed and can't be clearly defined in a category. Other categories include: paranoid schizo, catatonic schizo and residual schizo. These should all be in your textbook. Hope this helps.
  7. I totally agree!
  8. I'm Canadian and live in North Carolina. My passport expires March 2004. I found this website on line. You can print the application form and it has all the instructions. You cannot renew a passport in Canada yourself due to having a US address but there is no problem doing it by mail from the US. Check it out, www.ptt.gc.ca Hope it's helpful.
  9. I've been in CVICU for 1 yr now. I bought the AACN book which is great for procedures and monitoring. My preceptor for orientation recommended this fast facts book and it's great. www.kathywhite.com Try it out! Good luch!
  10. The one i usually work with is the Swan-Ganz catheter. Your unit should have a spare catheter for new nurses to look at. Or better yet look at the one your pt has. Talk to whoever is precepting you or your nursing educator. As well as the AACN book. I'm trying to picture the cath in my head because i'm not at work but the blue is the cvp line (measuring your RA pressure), the yellow connects to the temperature probe, the white is the PIP port(proximanl insertion port) and then you'll have another one(i think it's black or white) with a 3 cc syringe attached to the end which only allows you to use 1cc of it for pulmonary wedge pressure readings. When in doubt...ask! There is no such thing as a stupid question. I've only been in ICU for 1 yr coming from endoscopy. So i felt lik a new grad all over again. I still ask questions. Nothing wrong with that. It'll keep your pt safe!
  11. Have you sent all that you need for your visa screen certificate? As far as I know, if you go back into Canada and you do not have your visa screen you will not be allowed back into the US. I think that became effective July 24. I would call cgfns and really get on them about what they still need for you to obtain your visa screen. INS sucks!!:angryfire
  12. I would keep trying. I have kept my Canadian license even though i went to the US. Do you have a diploma or degree? I know if you have a diploma and you let your canadian license expire, you may even have to go back to school or something. They are getting ridiculous. All of Canada have stopped the diploma nurse program. This whole thing about preferring degree over diploma. It sucks to deal with the college of nurses, and i'm sure they'll give you the round about. Ask one of the representatives what you need to do to obtain your canadian license.
  13. Hi there. I know someone that had to get a new passport because hers was going to expire. You can't go to Canada and renew it there because your living in the US. There was some web site she went to and had to print the application off and send it. You also have to have 2 people listed on you application that know your Canadian. My friend had asked me to be one of the persons on her application. I had to answer some questions and provide my adress, etc. My friend has moved away and I haven't heard form her but I'm sure if you went through Google to find the web page concerning Canadian passports. Hope this helps.
  14. Thanks for all the tips! I just got the Pass the CCRN book at Barnes and Noble bookstore. Hope it's good!:)
  15. I'm a diploma nurse working in a CVIVU. Hospital is going to pay 1200 dollars a year if I pass. Plus I thought it would look good on my resume when I move back to Canada being that they have gotten rid of the diploma nurse program. They want a minimum of a BSN now for jobs. Though they still will hire a diploma nurse with experience. Thanks so much for your reply!:)
