Holistic RN/NP
I am in the same place as Roses. I'm 21 and an RN, in school to get my bachelor's right now. My plan was to be an NP, but I'm much more interested in holistics than medicine, so am rethinking it all. Right now doesn't seem like the right time (in Ohio, at least) to get a lot of business as a holistic practitioner, but I think I could get a lot more business as an NP that takes a holistic approach. I'm not sure how this works with license rights and insurance companies. Any information of programs or experience with boards of nursing or anything would really be appreciated!

Hang in there new Grads and New Nurses it does get better..I PROMISE
Thanks for sharing your experience. I had my first day of orientation yesterday and already hate it. I'm on all weekend again, but with a different nurse and I was looking for encouragment tonight. I'm not looking forward to the next year, but I've dreamed of being a nurse, so I'll have to push through and remember that it does get better!

Anyone with a seizure disorder ?
I don't have a seizure disorder...I have dysautonomia, which can cause seizures. At one point, I was having up to three seizures a day. I'm in nursing school right now and in clinicals. I'm doing okay with keeping them under control and as long as I don't have a seizure, I will be cleared to get my lisence. If I do have problems with me health, my doctor will have to sign papers saying I'm okay to practice. Good luck with school!

Do you have a diagnosis of mental illness?
I suffer from depression, but probably due to living with a chronic illness than because of a mental probelm. I have thougha bout suicide before, but that's probably also due to having a chronic illness.

Why did you take up nursing? What's your story?
I have always been interested in the human body. Before I started school I liked watching medical shows, so I knew I wanted to go into the medical field. When I was in the 8th grade I started passing out and having seizures. I went to the doctor, but they couldn't find anything wrong with me, and by that summer I was better. Then in high school I was having about 3 seizures at school every day. We looked for a diagnosis again, but couldn't find one. Then I had a seizure at my cousin's wedding shower and a nurse told me she thought I had dysautonomia. After going to a specialtist in Toledo, OH (one of two or three inthe country) I was diagnosed with dysautonomia. We learned that I showed symptosm ever since the 2nd grade, but never looked for a diagnosis until the syncope imapcted my life. Ever since then I knew I wanted to be a nurse. I thought about being a doctor, but there is no way I would be able to handle the schooling while living with dysautonomia, so nursing is the perfect job for me!

Have you heard of Dysautonomia?
Wow!! You did a lot of research on this topic!! Here's a summary of some stuff I've found over the past several months. You can also go to http://www.dynskids.org and there are many links. One link tells stories of some of the kids that are members of the support group. Overview Dysautonomia is a medical term used to describe a group of conditions that are caused by a malfunction of the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS). Each dysautonomia case is unique to that particular patient and symptoms for the various dysautonomia conditions can range from mild to debilitating and even life threatening. http://www.dynakids.org/Documents/newsletter7.pdf *I hope I can promote some awareness about this condition!!*

Online Programs
My borther's girlfriend did her training last summer, and she didn't have any hands-on experience in the class. She said thay read chapters from their book and took quizes. Then she took the state test (and passed) but she never had to do clinicals or anything like that!! Hmm...that's strange!

Have you heard of Dysautonomia?
I was diagnosed with dysautonomia about 9 months ago, and I've found that most doctors have never heard of this condition. It tooke me over 2 year to get a correct diagnosis. There are about 115 people in America who are diagnosed with dysautonomia, so I wouldn't expect a lot of poeple to know about it. I'm trying to promote awareness, so if you've heard of it, please let me know so I know there is some home!! If you haven't heard of it, let me know and I will give you some info on it.

I'm currently in high school, but I'm starting college next quarter through post-secondary options. I'm very interested in online education. At the moment, I'm looking for an online school that offers nurse's aide training. Does anyone know of any schools? Or any website to help would be great!! Thanks!!
