  1. We use under and over body bair hugger's together for our long neuro cases, Endoscopic Endonasal Approach and Crani for Tumors. It keeps our patients temp up much better than just having one over them. jwk- ours have channels that are outside the patient that allows are flow to circulate. So there is a purpose.
  2. try fairmont out by manayunk. I interviewed with them a little over a year ago. I interviewed with them and they offered me a per diem position. I didn't accept it but, they called quickly after applying to them.
  3. I went to kent state and graduated in their accelerated program about a 1.5yrs ago. Don't know what the hospital cohort is, they used to hold informational meetings on their programs call the school of nursing to get more answers to your questions.
  4. I graduated from the program last summer I can answer any questions you may have except the interview stuff since that didn't exist when I went. Send me a message and I'll respond as I get time.
  5. I am on the neuro team, we clipper hair in the OR after intubation and positioning while we prep. I know what AORN says but who wants to be awake when we shave a good portion of your hair for a craniotomy for tumor case, the pt is already going through enough emotionally.
  6. Got a job in the OR at UPMC as a new grad.
  7. Call the department and ask to shadow some days.
  8. I work at UPMC Presby, I couldnt imagine them not having alot of job postings there are allways a large amount throughout the system. Payscale goes on experience, education, certification and by hospital. We have some bonuses that we can get in our department that I know aren't offered and the community setting. There job postings usually give you ballpark figures as salary goes. With your ICU background wouldn't see why you would have trouble getting in one of the hospitals.
  9. This is all going to vary on what type of OR your interviewing at whether it is a small community hospital or a university hospital, trauma center. We have med bags that have commonly used drugs for specific teams (ent, plastic, neuro, liver,.....). Then we grab any other drugs that aren't carried in those bags from our pharmacy.
  10. Hope the interview went well,I did full-time during the week, they didnt have those other options when I was in the program. The semester difficulty varied depending on if you have taken the classes that you can take in advance and have gotten them out of the way. If there done you'll have an easier trip through the program. The most challenging I believe were the first and last. The first because you are new to nursing and everything you'll learn alot. The last because you have some a large work load with some of the more difficult courses with your preceptorship. I had a degree in Business Management. Took me several months after boards to get a job and but I was looking for work in a saturated philly market. Applied at upmc in pitt and got a call back in 3 days and a job in less than 2wks later. So just depends where your looking for a job. Took most a few months to find a solid job.
  11. I didn't work while in the program, I actually left a full time job to go back to school. Some people did work part time though. It just depends on you and how you learn. Some semesters are tougher than others so your time requirements for school will vary depending on which semester your in.
  12. have fun i graduated from this program last august. i can pry answer any questions you might have. we didnt do interviews back then though
  13. i was hired at presby as a new grad and started in feb. Was called in for a interview three days after applying for a handful of jobs. I moved from ohio as a 2nd degree nurse with a background in management. Just keep applying
  14. I know new grad pay in the allentown area is low 20's so that sounds about right.
  15. Ask them on their Facebook career site, they are usually quick to respond.
  16. I would think of it like Kaplan's don't pass the buck situations for number 2. Number 3 works because it allows you to still administer the medication on time and safely.
  17. Took the test at 8am yesterday morning 75questions, PVT showed good pop up when i checked. PA BON posted license this morning.
  18. What they have on the site is the most up to date form. If the charge was expunged it should not show on your background check. A friend of mine was in the same situation, he had a family member that was an officer verify and nothing showed up. You can always call the BON to verify.
  19. I didn't attend CSU but encountered some of their students while in clinical's. All their clinicals are based out of the CCF, thats the only question I can answer.
  20. Erica, Go on Amazon and find the book, then click the tab under the cover of the book that says look inside. They show the first two chapters of the book and all of the answer pages. This includes all the pages you have listed.
  21. Dani, I was accepted in the summer which are usually the most difficult since they consist of less time. Other than that the fall and spring semesters are scheduled identically to the way a traditional student is in class(we just tend to have a bigger course load). Most of the clinical courses are 8wks and the more traditional courses are typically the entire semester. If you take the courses you can earlier (genetics, human growth, pys, nutrition) it makes the program much easier. To get in you will pry have to have taken some of these courses anyways. I would say you need at least a 3.0 with all your prereqs completed and some of the additional courses. Most people do not get in on their first attempt. I worked in a pharmacy and volunteered at Akron general for a while to boost my chances. Some people have experience others do not. I know they've changed the application so someone that got in during the fall or spring may be able to help you more.
  22. I'm in the Kent program. Started in may. I would choose what works for you. The experience has been good here at Kent. Had some bad experiences and some positive ones also. Im sure you'll find that in any program. If you have taken all of the course work you could take in advance your course load will not be to bad. So that's something to think about. Shoot out any specific questions
  23. Cancer, The area is fine if your moving near the university. Kent can be expensive for rent I would look in surrounding areas for a better bang for the buck. The program is trying and can be stressful at times. If you have taken all the courses you can take in advance your experience will be much less stressful. Some people work others don't just depends on your situation. I don't work and find the program to be enough on it's own. Let me know if you have more questions.
  24. Just started this summer, we start phys in two week and take the course in 4 or 5 weeks. We take genetics in the fall over 15weeks. Some students are taking both others have knocked them out already. It will def help to have taken them since it frees up some time for the other classes. But if you get in prior to having them done it shouldn't be a problem just more time in class. We only have 10hr clinicals I believe they switched to that for the accelerated program only, not traditional students. let me know if want more info
  25. I just got in for the summer so I start in less than a month. Advise for you is to knock out as many of the courses you can complete prior to the program. It will lessen your courseload considerably and also help out alot in your application. I know they changed some things in there application like a timed essay.
