  1. That is why I did not go into med/surg lol.
  2. I went right into psych from nursing school 2.5 yrs ago. Believe me you DO lose your skills. Unless you love psych and want to stay there, go with the rehab.
  3. This is why I went straight into psych. Med/surg SUCKS!!!!! I learned that during clinicals. Always hated the med/surg rotations, and tele is no different. Psych is the bomb, it's clean, very little charting, entertaining, and I have about 7 hrs. of downtime a shift. In fact I am at work now! We even have a bed set up if any of us needs to take a nap on night shift. And since most of the pts. are frequent fliers you REALLY get to know them well. My fellow nurses and the techs are all as crazy as I am (you need a warped sense of humor to work psych) and we all have a good time at work.
  4. you are in charge of the techs. Have a talk with her before you report her.
  5. try a different specialty if you can.
  6. go into psych. it's fun and you don't kill yourself!
  7. I went right into acute psych and love it. I will probably stay in psych for the duration. It is easier than most other specialties, cleaner, and really entertaining! I hated med/surg in clinicals, would never work it.
  8. chances are in this job market you would have a hard time finding a job as a new grad anyway. Go for the bsn, by the time you graduate the economy should have recovered at least a little.
  9. in this horrible job market, I would NOT tell your current NM that you are interviewing for another position. In case it does not work out, you still have a job.
  10. don't hold your breathe...
  11. I had to move out of state for a job and I was lucky to get one at all!
  12. I work in psych as well and love it! very low stress.
  13. Your school should have a tutor service free of charge. Spend some time there it will help.
  14. I was talking about too caring cna but it didn't show her post! but this was from page 64 or something. the one about keep "your baby"
  15. to all the ^*&^&* borderline personality disorder pt's..SHUT UPPPPPPPP! If you are on top of the hour requests, that means TOP OF THE HOUR!!! Not 10 min. til, not 5min til. On the hour. And for god's sake, stop whining, begging for narcs or benzos you are never going to get. I will not call the resident I already know he will not prescribe them!
  16. lady, if you don't give it a rest, i'm gonna start a new op inviting people to rant about YOU!! oh wait, i'm already doing that. lol. shesh, lighten up.
  17. I couldn't agree with you more! I work on a psych ward and I swear I had the same pt. Except that she was sooooo fat and lazy, she wouldn't even get up in the night to pee. She would just go in her bed and then start screaming for new "gowns" (1 didn't cover her) and her bed changed. If I could have $%%^%^&^ her and gotten away with it, I would have! lol
  18. $21.00 hr. and at the U they have a waiting list of RN's waiting for a job.
  19. I work as a nurse at university hospital. As far as I know they have a waiting list of about 150 RN's trying to gain employment. I would check to see if slcc's program with the U still includes guaranteed employment. Things may have changed due to the recession.
  20. tempest replied to mac20's topic in General Nursing

  21. you don't have to have the cna anymore for community colleges or asu.
  22. absolutely. I was a new grad a few months ago and could not find work in phoenix. I had to move out of state to do so.
