I want to move to California, I am in Utah now on Probation for three years. I've been sober for a year now, will go for annual reveiw soon. Has anyone had any experiences transferring their probation to another state? How was it and did it work out okay? How soon were you able to work in the state you applied to work in? Another thought is to write the board a letter telling them why I want to move/how much I've learned about patient safety being number one/etc. and request to terminate my probation early even though I don't know if they will go for a year when I have a three year probationary stipulation. However, what I did was not job related so maybe that will help, it was a DUI...also the fact I have been totally compliant for a year. Hmm. Just want this to be as painless as possible like everyone else. Please, do share if you share any of these experiences. Thanks.

I think the people that are being punished over alcohol(NON work related issues) are being punished too harshly. As long as whatever happened did not affect your job in any way whatsoever ie. coming to the job hungover/intoxcated then I feel it a invasion on privacy. I too think the people punished over alcohol don't deserve the same treatment as someone doing drugs illegally on the job.

my best advice is to IN PERSON let the interveiwer know what happened. Fill out the applications and answer truthfully all...but don't fill in what you don't have too meaning save what you can to tell in person. I also advise putting on the app 'would like the opportunity to disscuss this in person.' That shows you want to have some privacy which is understandable AND gets your foot in the door a little better I think. In person is so much better than some stranger spilling their guts on paper and lets face it on paper it all looks bad.
