Flu Shots
It is not mandatory at my hospital, but we do have to sign a form that states we were offered the shot, but refused. Our hospital also provides them free.

People who just graduated...ATT yet?
I gave you a heads up about this in the "All Current GPC Nursing Students" thread. GPC told me the same thing about the NCLEX...that they were sending the paperwork, wait for the phone number to call...I didn't get my ATT until March (I graduated in Dec.). You need to contact Pearson Vue. The GA board of nursing will NOT send you anything until after you pay for the NCLEX. Go to http://www.vue.com/ register for an account, pay the NCLEX fee, then they will notify the board of nursing that you paid and the board of nursing will send your ATT. Then you go back to vue.com and schedule your NCLEX. I did what GPC said...wait 4-6 weeks for the board of nursing to send the phone #...and it was wrong. GPC was actually fast about mailing my paperwork, it was there within two weeks...too bad I didn't know I had to register before getting an ATT.

When I attended GPC we had a Med surg book by Mosby. Now GPC is using a Prentice Hall book.

I graduated in '05, but I still have some notes from webCT. The reading assignments will be different due to different books, but the content is the same. PM me your email and I will help in any way I can.

What is BCLS?
What is BCLS? I know it is Basic Cardiac Life Support, but where do I get certified? I checked the AHA website and it lists ACLS, BLS for Healthcare Providers, PALS..But no BCLS. Is this even a real course?

GPC Students - how was your semester?
I know a few that got over 75. One girl needed 77.5 to pass & thats exactly what she got. All I can say is try your hardest, review the material, and pray. I really feel for you.

GPC Students - how was your semester?
Nobody was really safe for the final. Everybody I knew needed at least a 65 on the final to pass, some needed 80's. We lost a few during the semester, but two people failed because they did not score high enough on the final.

GPC Students - how was your semester?
I graduated in Dec. in a class of 18. More than half of my class had failed a previous semester. IF you fail, you can use your time off going over what you didn't grasp the first time. ALOT of the test questions are used again (or the same concepts) so go to the test reviews. You can graduate from GPC. I had no choice, I didn't have the resources to transfer to another college, but if you can, look at all your options. I had one classmate (that had failed a previous semester) during 4th semester that was already regeistered for class at Athens Tech. That way if she failed again she could start class there in Jan. and not have to sit out a semester for the application process. Also, 2nd year was easier for me. We had quizzes and they helped to bring my grade up. Good Luck. Bo

GPC Students - how was your semester?
What I mean is some questions on the test will come from the reading you were assigned, but the information was not covered in class. So if you only study your notes you may miss something. There will be math questions on every exam, and a math test that you must pass. The instructors do a good job teaching the conversions & formulas. I had never used a stethoscope before either. It is just something you'll have to practice with. The more you use it the better you will feel.

GPC Students - how was your semester?
I just finished my 4th semester, and am now gearing up to study for the NCLEX. rollie, if you want a heads up on what type of material you'll be covering next semester pm me. studentque, it is a hard program but it can be done. Don't just rely on the lecture notes...you need to do the reading assignments. There will be questions from the reading that might not have been covered in class. Good luck Bo

Child Care Costs/recommendations
I live in a suburb of Atlanta Georgia. My 6 year old attends public school from 8:00am - 2:30pm. Children can arrive as early as 7:00 and stay in the media room/library until class starts. Afterschool care costs $60 week and is open until 6:30. If I needed before school care also it would only cost $5 more (and opens at 6:00 am) for a total of $65 a week. The daycare provides the transportation to school/from school. During school breaks when my child does not attend school the cost for daycare is $85 a week (6am-6:30pm). I researched all the daycares in my area and this is an average price (all other daycare centers were within $5)

Atlanta Hospitals
I don't know how much this will help, but here is a link to a GA hospital directory...it lists the hospital name, address, phone number, and website for most (if not all) of GA's hospitals. Just scroll down and check some of them out. http://www.healthcarehiring.com/hospitals_georgia.html

Omit job from apps?
Why not call the the facility and say "I am calling about Nurse Weasel..." and see first hand what they will say about you, then at least you'll know.

Gifts/cards etc to thank clinical instructor & site?
Our clinicals are always early, so we bring breakfast type foods.. muffins, OJ, apple juice, breakfast quiche..each person decides what to bring. I made 3 dozen mini muffins and I only spent $2.50 (much better then having to donate $ so one person can buy doughnuts IMO).

Need gift ideas for soon to be mom...

my college is scaring me
I will say English messed me up...well not really, but when documenting I kept using those insignificant words such as "the" & "is" ex. The wound is healing...instead of: wound healing..., it was really hard for me to stop because I was taking an essay writing class during the first half of the semester. We do have a few college required courses that everyone must take to graduate (for all majors) that I think are worthless, but I agree that the courses required for nursing do build a foundation that will be built upon during nursing classes (even English )

Period 8 days late...neg HPT!!
Same thing happened to me. DH and I were ready to get PG, I was late, a little nauseated but I felt like my period was going to start any second - you know that "feeling" you get. I must have ran to the bathroom 20 times to check. I got a HPT and it was negative. When I still didn't start a couple of days later I bought another HPT and it came up positive. So, I can Definitely relate to your situation, and wanted to send happy vibes your way.
