Night shift, new grad - advice please.. ?
I started on the night shift as a new grad and have never regretted. I will advise that you do at least a few shifts or maybe most of your preceptorship on the day shift. My reasoning behind it is there are many things that you will get to do on days shift that you will not on nights. In addition it will help you get a routine together, if you can survive day shift night shift will be a breeze. Plus night shift is a little slower many times which allows you to spend time getting to know our patients, routines, etc. without having to send them to radiology, dialysis, etc. Plus you have less people involved in the care which can definitely be beneficial. Though nights can be hard to adjust for your sleeping I, like joanna73 take melatonin, it allows me to drift off to sleep without waking up drowsy.

All Current GPC Nursing Students
I was looking for the books we will be using this semester. My thought was if there are people out there who knew they would not be returning to the program I could purchase their used books and begin studying now. I contacted the bookstore and they do not have the books in yet.

Westheat, I would be more than happy to include you or anyone else for that matter. I too will be at Clarkston. Based on everything I have been reading we should get a jump on this and we need to stick together and help each other through. Congrats to you as well.

All Current GPC Nursing Students
I just received my acceptance letter for Fall 2006 and am overjoyed, I think. Also, obviously, scared and hesitant. I am looking to connect with someone who has notes, info, a syllabus, advice etc. for NURS 1921. My goal is to get ahead of things if possible. Especially given everything I have heard and read. I would be willing to meet at a Kinko's (or something like it) to get copies of any information you may have. Thanks so much.
