My narc count was over!
Nurses still count nars???? Our med system is all computer generated so if you request one percocet, then one pops out under your password, easy to see who got what and at what time and for whom. I use to hate those end of shift counts. There was always something missing.

Taking the ACLS. Some advice please.
The last time I took ACLS it was pure torture. I had tendonitis of my wrist from shoveling 2 feet of snow. The guy doing the intubation part would not pass me unless I could sucessfully intubate. I have had my ACLS since 1999 have have NEVER had to intubate. The guy was a jerk. You are right. Most of them hate nurses. Even though we save their ass all the time. Good Luck!!!!!!!

anyone NOT roll an ankle in Danskos professionals?
I've rolled my ankle in them quite a few times. It finally dawned on me that I was flirting with the Orthopod so I threw them out. Yes I sure did. Too old to be breakin a bone. But, I really did love them.

Cardiac Markers and stress test
I'm pretty sure you can have clean coronaries with Prinz Metal. I would def air on the side of caution and treat her like she is having angina.

Instructor reamed me even though nurse said I did right thing..what do you think?
I think you did great. I also think the bedside nurse dropped the ball. The wheezing should have been addressed immediately. Wheezes are not treated with ativan.. Had the pt had a neb, maybe some lasix it is possible that all the drama could have been avoided. Stay out of that instructors way. You need to kiss butt the rest of the semester. Good Luck

CCRN test: how bad is it really?
I studied using the Pass CCRN. I just kept going over the questions. Some of the questions on the CCRN are VERY similiar to the ones on the Pass CCRN CD .Good Luck. It was easier than I thought it would be.

Adjusting a temporary pacer
I would have increased the sensitivity and see if that helped. Or at least called the cardiologist. Can't you go into v tach if the pacer fires during repolarization?? Kind of like an r on t ???

significance of central ABG
Can anyone help me understand the significance of a central venous ABG? I think it ihas something to do with the O2 consumption. If the Svo2 is decreasing does that mean the O2 consumption is increasing which is not a good thing ? I think I have totally confused myself. Any help appreciated.

solucortef use in hypotensive pt
Can anyone explain how solucortef increased BP. I think it stimulates the adrenals to secrete cortisol but not sure. I have been told that it "expands the vasculature" but don't understand.

ICU to ORTHOPEDICS
are you serious?????? Years ago when I was a new grad I almost quit working because of all the chronic pain crazies on the ortho floor. They would all stand outside of their doors, whine my name, and call for their pain meds. you could set your watch by them. Oh and don't forget all the sleepers you had to give along with the pain meds. Stay in the ICU. they may be crazy too but at least we can intubate them and put them on a propofol drip.

newtitle
Is this a new job, I mean did you use to work as a nursing assistant there.. In any event I always play dumb. Women are not very nice to each other. Until you get to know everyone just continue doing everything the correct way. If you make waves you will make it harder on yourself, and the truth is you cannot change things. Once you get to know people and you are respected for your work you can start to make suggestions and positive changes. good luck

I took the test a few months back and passed on the first try. Used the "Pass CCRN" book and CD. Test was not nearly as hard as everyone said it was. Maybe I overstudied . good luck

Nurse Burnout and being overworked
lbookie when my kids were small I worked in a doctors office very part time. the biggest stressor was wondering what the drug reps were bringing us for lunch. Sounds like a nice derm or cardiology office would suit you. No stress there, but the money sucks. I agree with Cindy A 1000%
