  1. I dont think that they look at midterm grades. What matters is your pre-req GPA for when you submit your application. If you didnt finish ALL your pre-reqs when you submit your application, you must be enrolled in all those last classes the semester before you are to be in the program and pass them. They usually dont factor in those grades during your application because you dont have any grades for them yet, what matters is what you have when you submit your application. A 3.6 is a good grade, but the traditional program is more competitive than the others and you might want to call in and ask them what was the cut off for that type of program. Good luck, ok.
  2. Im sorry about the news. Which state are you in? I've noticed that some states have programs that are more competitive than others.
  3. I got my acceptance letter today too!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. When I used to be at this nursing school I had this one clinical instructor who told me "I will do whatever it takes to make sure you dont pass this class" and got her wish. Absolutely, but Im tryin to go back to nursing school at a different school, and my saying is "I will do whatever it takes to make sure history doesnt repeat itself!"
  5. Congrats! I am so happy for you!!!
  6. Well, all i can say is you got to find some inner strength within yourself and realize how far you have come and how far you can go from this point. Everyone needs improvement in something, nobody is perfect. You can do it, just believe in yourself. Confidence plays a lot in how you make things for yourself. As that sayin goes, if you think you can, you can, if you dont think you can, then you cant.
  7. I think everyone is a bit worried to some degree, but where there is a will there is a way, regardless.
  8. Go back and review your a&p, if you understand the body systems, it should help a bit with the nursing interventions to make more sense.
  9. Not exactly sure as to how to help, but I think this MIGHT help you. I know its a nursing course, BUT what about getting someone who is good in biology to help you. Like someone who is good in a&p stuff, I think that if you get the a&p really good, it should help you to answer some of the questions better and make the nursing interventions make more sense. Yet, still talk to your teacher or someone who is passing the course.
  10. Yeah cause I took this nutrition course called Human nutrition and when I tried to see if it could count as my nutrition at this other school, they didnt accept it because they wanted "human nutrition and diet therapy." LOL! Some schools can get technical and some are more flexible, so thats why I think you should talk to an advisor or better yet, go to your department and see what they will say, maybe they can do a course substitution or something. :)
  11. Sorryyou didnt do as well on your exam as you hoped, but like you said least, he drops that grade! Lol! Im a little anxious about my lab quiz that I took yesterday because we had to now all of these bones and I hope I got the spelling right because its marked wrong if you dont spell the bones right. LOL! I hope some day we all look back at these times and laugh and say," it was hard, but I made it through it all!" LOL!
  12. You should speak to an advisor, they could answer your question better than anyone off the boards because each school is different. Some schools will and some wont; depends on the school.
  13. Well, maybe you could look into applying into another nursing school where your GPA is acceptable. There is always more than one nursing school. Still work hard to bring your grades up though! You can choose to go the LPN route, but you'd still have to take BSN courses once you finish, if you want a BSN. :) Good luck!
  14. 1. Put your trust in God 2. Study in short bursts. study for a few minutes and then take breaks in between. You remember the first and last things you study, so if you study in short bursts, you'll retain more vs trying to study it all at once and dont remember a huge chunk of material. 3. You can go to tutoring for help if you dont understand the material, schools usually offer this for free. Trust me, it helps 4. You can bring a tape recorder to class and record the lectures 5. Study it till you feel you could teach it to another person. For some of these materials I have to write them down 10 times, yeah its tedious, but oh well, at least I can say I remember it after doing that. LOL! 6. Go to your teacher and see if you can both go over the materials before the test or go over your past tests to see WHY you got the answers wrong. You need to know WHY things function.
  15. I suggest that you take a deep breath and pray for a passing grade. I was in the same boat today with a test and was the last person to turn my test in and I felt like crying and like my dreams were slipping away, but the teacher posted the grades and I found out that I passed and did better than I thought, thanks to GOD. Wait until you get your results; you might have done better than you think. When I was taking my test, I sure as heck didnt think I would even get half right and I did well. Have faith and believe in yourself .
  16. I dont know of any good chemistry websites, but maybe you can see if your school offers tutoring in chemistry (usually its free_). I would go to the chemistry department or a tutoring area at your school to find tutors. Its usually better one-on-one with someone who can answer your questions or you could try youtube and find people doing things related to chemistry.
  17. Maybe you should wait to see what your test results are. I JUST finished taking a test in a nutrition class and was almost for certain I failed and prayed with each test question.LOL!!! Then when I got the test results back, I actually did WWAAAAYYYYYY better than I thought. I say just wait and see what your results were and also since you know how you're being tested after taking the first test, apply what you learned from the first test experience to the next test. My teachers even gave my class samples of how their tests were and one was easy but as soon as we took the actual test it was hard as you know what. LOL! Now I know what to expect with that class. Good luck and I hope you did well on your test. If you didnt do well, there are also other tests that you can take or maybe other assignments to help boost your grade? :)
  18. Lol, Momtojosh and I must have the same bio teacher because my teacher keeps saying the same stuff like" you all should already know this, so Im not gonna go over this" or "we arent gonna go over this because you all will be going over this next semester with another teacher." Then we have a test coming up and he gonna say," I dont do reviews anymore because everyone is just gonna come in with blank faces like you all have now." Ok, I havent taken biology in about 7-8 years and I went to his office to ask him some questions on things I didnt quite understand and he was like " read the book, it has a lot of good information in it." Wow, thank goodness I was able to get a tutor a few days later. Then it was funny how when we were reviewing our second to last chapter for the test he gonna say," I guess I got to actually teach this..." LOL!!!! Yeah, I use youtube to help me study. I use the book, youtube, tutoring, etc to help me study. So its not like as if Im not trying. I cant wait for this semester to be over!
  19. I used to be in a nursing program years ago, but would be so paranoid about making mistakes that sometimes I would be very nervous in clinicals and this in turn would make my professors give me a lot of negative feedback (I still have a deep fear because when I was taking this pediatrics clinical, my clinical professor pulled me aside and told me that she would "do whatever it takes" to make sure that I failed the class and I did!) and I eventually had to leave the program and years later I regretted giving up on nursing (I dont regret leaving the school because I felt it just wasnt the school for me and I didnt get the support I needed. I know that your teachers arent there to hold your hand, but all the negativity didnt help much either). Anyway, I recently decided to go back into nursing at a new school. I have to finish some pre-reqs because they wanted more courses. The people at this school are nicer and seem to be more confident in me than the last school. I just have this deep fear of being pulled aside again and reliving that moment. Its been almost 6 years and I am still saddended and fearful. I want to do whatever it takes to be successful this time around, but I just cant shake off what happend, but am taking the steps to go back to school. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks.
  20. These are some wonderful responses! Thank you both! :)
  21. What would be the best thing to do as a student nurse if you were assigned a pediatrics patient (around 5 years old) and were to take her VS and do an assessment on the patient (before her scheduled surgery), yet the patient was very uncooperative and would not let go of her parent, who is holding her, and the child's back is to you and your clinical instructor was observing you to see what you would do?What would be the best thing to do in this scenario? How could you get the VS and do an assessment with the child without looking bad infront of your clinical instructor?
  22. When I finish school and get that check...I'll put half in my savings and spend the rest on myself to enjoy. LOL!!!!
  23. School B!!! I have to drive 45 minutes to go to my school, so I know what you mean. Its better to pay for the gas and go to a good school vs getting into a school that is closer and have a bad experience and wishing you went to the other school just save gas money.
  24. Yeah...the school that Im applying for only looks at the grades you made in the required pre-reqs too. So I agree with ChinacatSN. I woudnt waste time with some courses that wouldnt count. They determine your gpa with the prereqs. I would advise you to try to see which schools you are interested in and speak with someone like the head of the department or an advisor. They can be more help to you since they work there and have to deal with these types of questions often.
  25. For me, this is the kind of teacher I admire: 1)Patient and someone who LIKES their job 2)Open enough for students to feel like they can ask questions and not always answer questions with, "read the book" (sometimes you just dont get what the book says--SORRY!). 3) Makes time to help students 4)Someone who TEACHES and takes into consideration that everyone has different learning styles
