I'm just trying as hard as I can, I make sure to get lots of practice I lab and if I don't understand something I ask for a another understanding even asking another student who seems like they get the info. Pretty soon u guys should start forming study groups. I found already I only study good with certain people n class.stay focused and don't get behind n your reading and class ass. Keep us informed

WCCCD Spring 2010 Hopefuls
Just wanted 2 say I hope u all get accepted, I know the waiting is torture! I got accepted for fall 09 as an alternate, then a spot became available. It's been a long hard road. So good luck 2 all waiting for spring 2010!!!

Silly question--what to wear for class
At wcccd there was no metion of what to wear for class, but to lab sweat pants only and a white short sleeve tee shirt. They were very strict about that, and of course uniforms to cinicals.

WCCCD, Applying for fall 2010
Hi last time I called the office they said they would have info about the teas test by the end of the month. The last time I was in the bookstore I didn't see any study guides on the teas test, just the net test. As far as the new system goes you get points for everything. Past medical exp. All prereq's taken at wccc, gpa,and everything else that goes along with the app. Background check, essay, test scores, transcripts, high school diploma or ged, I think that's it. But call the nursing office with any other questions.

Nursing Schools?
Most schools I know of here n mi. Do have entrance exams. Ours was the net test but they just changed to the teas test.

How do you function on little or no sleep?
I can relate. Start nursing school this fall and will still b working only on the weekends. But my job is stressful. Have 2 b at work at 5am. (Dialysis tech) I never feel as though I've had enough sleep. I need 8 hours myself, but I usually sit for a while when I get n from work or doze 4 about an half hour whenever I can. My kids no I work long hours and starting school this fall, so they r pretty good about not disturbing me while I nap.

How can I get in?
Are you taking the "net" test? There are study guides you should be able to get at school library,or for any test you are taking. Good luck

Random Thoughts: From a Nursing Student
That's funny. Not a nursing student til aug. 2009 but all I can think about is no hair below the shoulders

How can I get in?
It's a luck of the draw. U may have everything they r looking 4 and still might not get n becuz of 2 many applicants and not enough spots. I attend wcccd in mi. Where they go by a point system. All prereq. Taken at their school, pass medical background, gpa , net entrance scores, essay, background check, and all prereq. Completed. Hope this helps

too long of a wait? advice needed
Yep it's like that nowadays, where they wants all prereq.completed. it took me a year of repeating 4 classes and still didn't get in that semester. I just got accepted this fall as an alternate first then a spot became available. I know it is very frustruating 2 wait that long, but you'll look up and the time will b up before u know it.

Modesto Junior College ADN program
Hey mommato3, was reading your post and like u (I'm 35) felt like I wasn't getting any younger. It looks like you're applying 2 the same school over and over like I did. I finally got n on the 3rd try at wcccd, starting aug.2009, plus I was n their nursing program n 2002 but failed the 1st nursing course by 2 pts. So stay strong and keep trying! Everybody kept telling me 2 apply 2 diff. Programs, but my school had started a point system and I stuck with them. So I know how frustrating it is and just wanted 2 offer some words of encouragement. I also have 2 kids, a 6 and 10 year old.

For those of you who have been accepted......
I'm n the same boat. Will b working fri. And sat. 10 hour shifts. May even work some wed.and thur. 2 try and have 40 hrs. Also have a 6 and 10 year old and a husband who is already working 6 days a week. I hope I can do it. Good luck 2 all of us!

Confusion on Rounding in Nursing Math. PLease Help!!!
Usually the question will tell u, or ask the instructor. In that problem u are rounding 2 the nearest tenth becuz there r only 2 numbers after the decimal point, if there were 3 numbers after the decimal u would b rounding to the nearest hundredth, so that answer is 17. Hope this helps

Will I ever be accepted?!??!!?!?!?!!!?
Meant 2 say u may have 2 take some classes over.
-
Will I ever be accepted?!??!!?!?!?!!!?
The reality is that u may have 2 take some classes 2 get accepted. I had 2 take four 'c' classes over and I received three a's and one b and finally got accepted. So consider the facts. It's very competitive now. 7 years ago a 2.5 would have gotten u n.keep us posted on your plans.

Air embolism during hemodialysis
A saline line is attached to the pt's lines and when you give saline to the pt sometimes the saline bag will run dry if you are not paying attention. Pt's are connected to a tubing set and anytime you twist open a cap to give meds or saline you have 2 make sure the saline lines are clamped first then you can give your meds or whatever if not you run the risk of air entering the lines which can cause some serious problems 2 the pt. I forgot when you are priming the lines b4 the pt gets on the machine u have 2 make sure there r no visible air bubbles in the lines. Hope this helps

don't be discouraged, still apply, u may b 1 of the lucky one's and u def. increase your chamces by applying 2 multiple schools

What should I know already?
thats true. i don't think instructors will like students saying well i used to do it this way. go in with a open mind. i have 14 years as a dialysis tech and when i start the nursing program i am not going to be mentioning that, rather i am going 2 soak up any new knowledge and maybe compare some things that i have learned over the years, but i'm basically going n with a clean slate.

What does it mean to be put on a waiting list?
sounds like being accepted as an alternate. i'm in for fall 09 as an alternate, but if a spot does not become available i will automatically start in the spring of 2010
