  2. fact is, if you pass the board , the state feels you have enuff knowledge to be a nurse. and a 70% isnt gonna pass the exam i believe. not in Texas anyway. Last year in A&P1 i struggled and ended with a high c, this year in A&P2 i have a A, and am pegging (aced)everything i encounter. difference is, i have less worries, i had a mother last year who had radiation and dad had a heart attack. so, no, a gpa doesnt justify a good or bad nurse. If you look at that, then attendence needs to looked at. and recommedations from teachers. I have a freind that they wanted to see his myspace , and he got job. I was inawww of it. But i see at least three big employers here that ask for it.
  3. here, points are what gets ya in nursing, and you need all of your prereqs to get in. last semster they said lowest points got in was 21.
  4. wilson n jones in sherman,tx and TMC in denison,tx. TMC has a new hospital building they will be moving into soon.
  5. online type in AAS RN prerequisites for brookhaven community college and maybe the town its in and state, I tried it once and it pulled up all their prereqs for nursing
  6. I dont like the bulkyness of them, thats about it . My gf has one and when i walk along ways , i put a cpl books in her bag and she rolls with it. lol. If you have 3-4-5 classes and all the books u need at once so youi dont have to go back to car, then i recommend one. (back saver) also if you look at backpacks.com and othes online they have a few cool ones.
  7. this goes to the original post here, yes hospitals are out to make $. They complain that they are short handed, or scew the nurses they have now to have 6-7-8-9 patients each.over worked and then dont hire help for their help they have. I see several places hiring new grads. I also see, folks whinning because where they are there are no jobs. Sometimes you may need to move somehwere else. I see around here folks not wanting to drive 30-40 miles one way and never get a nurse job. or they wanna stay in a one horse town and then complain that jobs are not around. Around here the hospitals hirse new grads all the time. The reason hopsitals are short handed is because they are cheap, and dont want to hire good help. instead they will run a skeleton crew, and have quality care suffer.
  8. yes, endocrine, lymphatic, blood, reproduction, cardiovascular, digestive. Most all A&P classes teach basically the same thing. My teacher in A&P1 was Jackie Butler and one of the authors in the HOLES ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY text book. She said the general A&P class teaches basically the same thing. I have left a couple of post with good websites to study for yall.
  9. I have found 2 agencies that hire Rns with one -2 years exp in ICU setting, and hire for Alaska. They pay in the 6 digit figure. My buddy was a graduate a few years ago and landed a jobthrough a paticular agency, and is working in Alaska for huge amounts of money. He said he can get me on when i graduate and get a yr exp in icu, which i can have since i have People lol in certain places. Anyway good luck to all.
  10. when is the last time you asked a nurse or even a Dr, what their gpa is before you let them do anything. NO one cares unless your in school still.
  11. sounds to me like she is hung on her family to much. Sit her down and explain all the loans in the end will be benificial to you both. Depending on your field of work, a RN can make huge amounts of $. She wouldnt have to work. On a religous note, ask the lord if you should trade her for the nursing field. J/K
  12. While i disagree with giving organs away after death, for various reasons. I also feel your pain of losing a sibling, I lost my sister unexpectedly. I allways wished i had been able to say goodbye. I had a closeness not shared with my other siblings. I feel a nurse knowing the situation can make a exception to a rule, so you can be by someones side. Reguardless of my opinion on organ donors, I think your brother will know he made a difference in many peoples lives, and thats what important in the end.
  13. just for the record, haha last year in my first semester, , i dealt with: my dog died, my mom found out she had a rare form of cancer, and no$ to do anything, my freind died in the middle of exams in A&P class of a brain hemmorage, my truck was stolen, and my gf and i broke up. I dropped my sociology class. lost my job also. Looking back, now, i stuck to it, we are back together(gf) and my mom got help is cancer free, my dog is still dead ,but its ok. I got a new car to replace my truck. I have a good enough job to get by till i graduate. Stick to it, all will work out and look back and say, wow, i did it!! On a side note GO COWBOYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. I have a saying on my cell phone" Prove you can" I have a 8th grade education. I am starting my second year in school. I thought id never make it. I saved my own $ for 3 years to pay for it all myself. When i get a lil in doubt , i look at my cell phone, and think CHA ching-cha ching, and i can hear the $ allready coming in!!!!
  15. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ said it perfectly. get more advice. chose your courses right, and be a RN making good $ in 2 yrs,and continue education towards a medical degree in a higher bracket.
  16. sHE WORKED at Texoma Medical Center in denison,tx 11-12 years as a unit clerk up to a nurse. Then she worked at Wilson N Jones hospital in sherman,tx 7 years as a nurse, then in the resources dept.. Sherman is about 25 miles from big city shopping and 50 miles north of dallas up highway 75 .sherman has about 35,000 folks and denison is right next door and it has about 20,000 folks. The area is close to Lake Texoma. She quit a few months ago to work in home health so she could finish her college degree. She has gotten a few folks hired. Wilson n jones is a 200 bed facility i think.excellent heart hospital. I myself am in RN school, and when i grad, she said i can get in pediatric icu. she asked allready, off the rcords of course. Whats wrong with the weather, we have snow, heat,, we have every season here. depends on where you live.
  17. Iasl ohave another semester or so of prereqs. I will be able to qualify in 2010 nursing school. I gave up building race motors for this lol. Anyway, it would be nice to chat on here or phone, or yahoo to someone in same boat and knows what i am going through. Thanks Chad Lowe
  18. what size is there family of yours. I mean a single person will pay maybe 100.00 a month or so here in a apt. and maybe 200.00 in a energy efficient home. I have a 3 br home and i get 300.00 a month bill, but thats a/c all day ,apliances,wash/dry alot. My 2 bedroom apt got a 175.00 or so bill running everything alot.
  19. the hospitals here are hiring new grads. my gf knows the DON, and the employment personel. she worked there, 7 years and worked with the resources dept. and wasa nurse also. good luck
  20. dont be so hard, I am in my 30s. i recommend you get a study guide for the science A&P classes. study till next semester. you will be ready and make better grades. i have posted a couple free A&P websites on here today to help those study better. Use them and you will knockout A&P next semester.
  21. a few places yall can go to study a lil better. they are great tools to use, as i did in my classes. http://msjensen.cehd.umn.edu/Webanatomy/default.htm this is a Univerty website for Minnisota College. Also try, Holes Anatomy and Physiology websire and click on the essential study partner its awsome and both websites offer click and drag labeling. I had JAckie Butler , and she is oine of the books authors, and this was a good website they gave us. both are free. but on the holes you may have to click on student.
  22. sounds like a typical A&P class. first of all, dont fret to much, EVVVVVVVVERYONE usually gets worried. Next, i recommend you get a book that breaks the text book down a lil more. I bought a A&P book that explained in laymens terms. and everything in it we covered. Dont read everychapter, every paragraph. its too much to remember. read over what is covered in class, and get the book like i said. allso there is a few good websites that offer free, study tools that help tremendouly. http://msjensen.cehd.umn.edu/Webanatomy/default.htm this is on the University of Minnisota website. excellent tool and click n drag labeling. you can also go to Holes Anatomy and Phisiology website and click on the essential study partner tab, it is awsome too.
  23. wyotech replied to o2brn09's topic in Pre-Nursing Students
around here, as many as you like, however, after the 2nd time, you have to pay and get no aid to do it. I think if you fail 2 times, maybe you should consider a different career. Sometimes, the med field just isnt for everyone. Doesnt mean ya not smart, just that medical maynot be your thing, some1 might accel in law, and fail in medical. what ever the route ya take, good luck.
  24. get the REA super review book. subtitled: all you need to know about A&P. Everything you will cover just about paid ten is in that book. I had it inA&P1 class and i rarely opened my text book. I paid 10 bucks for it in the book store at college.
  25. If ya ever in north central Texas, I can get ya a job at Wilson N Jones Hospital here in sherman.
