California's 2009 New Grad RN Program- Who's hiring right now?
it's almost the end of 2009 and a lot of us still don't have jobs (myself included) it's sooo sad that this post will soon be California's 2010 New Grad RN Program - Who's hiring right now?

New grad looking for a job in California
As a new grad it is so hard to get a job in California. I agree with everyone and don't move unless you have papers signed stating that you have a job secured. I would either get a job where you are at now, get some experience for about a year and then make the move.

Advice about ADN
hey coriaa1.. i have a bachelor's in business and an adn in nursing but unfotunately that has not helped me out in my job search.. i graduated last may and passed my boards but it seems like hospitals prefer BSN's to ADN's regardless of whether or not you have a bachelor's in another area.. i have encountered many hospital websites that post "BSN preferred" and have learned that recuriters weed out applicants that do not have BSN's since they have more than 500+ applying to their new grad positions.. my advice to you is to get experience by volunteering whenever you can or possibly getting a job as a CNA before graduating..hopefully the economy will get better by the time you graduate and this won't be a problem for you.. good luck with school.. and even though it's hard for everyone to find a job right now, i'm still glad i'm a nurse because i wouldn't want to be doing anything else.. hope this helps :wink2:

Alaska here I come!
smilealot I'm from Southern California too.. How long were you looking for a job before you decided to move to Alaska.. And if you don't mind me asking how soon were you able to get a job there? I'm having a hard time finding a job in CA I'm considering moving but not really sure where to go.. Any advice or insight on how you decided to make the move would be helpful.. Thanks :)

No Jobs in CA.. Should I just move?!?!
I am in San Diego and I've been looking at long term care facilities, but they don't even want to train new nurses. For the most part I am looking at hospitals all across CA and LTC facilities around the area. Where is IHC?

Should I relocate to Texas from California?
Thanks for all your replies! I don't think I will consider getting a job at McAllen Hospital. I would be moving by myself with no family in the area. If everyone is saying to avoid it maybe that's what I should do This economy is so hard for new grads right now.. After so many years of studying, finally getting my RN, and getting rejection letters left and right can be REALLY discouraging!! I have no idea what to do..

Should I relocate to Texas from California?
Thanks TheCommuter! I think I was hoping that McAllen wouldn't be as bad as I thought but you just reaffirmed what I was thinking. Hopefully others will let me know if any hospitals in the Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Austin areas are hiring new grads

New Grad facing unique issue
So this is true? If you are 6+ months past graduation you are no longer considered a new grad? Is this what most hospitals are doing or just CHW? I graduated in May passed my boards in July but I wasn't able to get into a new grad program in Jul/Aug. I'm hoping (scratch that I'm PRAYING) that I'll get into a Dec/Jan program. But if I don't does that mean I can no longer apply as a new grad? If that's the case, maybe I should relocate to another state

Should I relocate to Texas from California?
Hi All, I recently passed my boards in July and have had no luck finding a job. I got a call back from South Texas Health System at the McAllen Medical Center but I was wondering if that is a good area to relocate. Should I just wait it out to see if I can get into a new grad program here in California or should I relocate and move to Texas? Also are there any other hospitals that might be opening up their new grad program anytime soon? Any info/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!! :)
