Pay break down
Ok, I was going over this pay package and am confused. The breakdown is: -$17.59 taxable -$35.00 in meals/incidentals untaxed(which would be taxed for myself due to lack of tax home) -$150 per month insurance stipened -company provided housing separate -$1000 completion bonus My recruiter states that this would equate to $27.00/hr... how? I am not seeing that?

Tax home?
I am taking my first travel assignment beginning next week and am having second thoughts and possible regrets about quitting my staff job. I believe i am considered an itinerant traveler because I do not have a "tax home". I have been living with my parents the last three years while working, getting mail in my hometown, etc... But I do not duplicate expenses because I did not pay rent to them. I know there is a checklist for determining tax home eligibility and two of the options are duplicating expenses (which I'm not) and working in the place of your home (also which I am not). Do you guys agree that I do not qualify for a tax home? I'm not requesting professional advice, just some quick opinions. Thanks!

Cardiology NP.. ANP or ACNP?
I would like to be a cardiac NP who does a combination of inpatient and outpatient care. Do you think the ACNP or ANP would suit this goal better?

NP's working at teaching hospitals
How is the role of an NP at teaching hospitals? I currently work at a teaching hospital as an RN and I do not see many NP's hired due to the abundance of interns and residents. If they were hired I am guessing they would get little respect and get the brunt work. So, my question is, do any of you have experience with this? Do you know of any NP's, or are one, in a large teaching hospital??

Do nursing student feel like they may fail EVERYDAY ?
I feel like that every single day. We always have a written test, some other test we have to pass, or a skills test. I hate those skills tests. I swear they will be the end of me!! LOL!! I also feel my school is cliquish so I also worry about fitting in. I worry I will fail and I also worry I won't make A's. I have set extremely high standards for myself that make it hard to reach. I ended up making a "B" my first semester of nursing school but I have become okay with it. I get so nervous when performing a new skill at clinical! I am so afraid I will get a bad clinical write-up. I am afraid I won't get that IV on the first try or find the right spot for that catheter! hahhah No seriously, I am thoroughly enjoying my break. I am scared to death to start back because I'm an extremely tense person. Nursing school isn't the best for that. I will get thru this!! That is what you have to tell yourself EVERYDAY!

help on tissue perfusion
Ok so I need some help on my nursing diagnosis of ineffective tissue perfusion. How do I determine if it is arterial or venous in nature? This directs my interventions. The reason I am doing my diagnosis of ineffective tissue perfusion is because the client has edema, cyanosis, and swelling in the ankles. I can't look at the clients chart or go and speak with the client anymore so that is out of the question. I am leaning to it being arterial because the client has peripheral vascular disease (will narrow or obstruct the vessels), diabetes, and peripheral neuropathy. What do you think? Need more info? Thanks

radial pulse
Hello, im having some trouble getting the radial pulse! I was comped on it today and I failed because I was two off before multiplying by two. For example, I got 32 when the teacher got 30. I think it was do to the fact that we started and stopped at different times. If there is a beat in progress when you hit, for instance your starting point on the clock at the 12, do you count it? Or do you wait for the next full beat? Also, when you end do you count the beat if it starts before, for example say the 6 on the clock, but it ends after? Thanks!!

For Fun - Things You Want to Buy Once You're a Nurse
The only thing I want is to land a good job as a new grad with no prior working hospital experience. That is what I pray for each day. After that I plan to buy a car, just an inexpensive used one that will last me a long time. I then will live frugally and pay off student loans and save, save, save!!! Maybe I can also find a husband somewhere in there too???

President's List winners :-)
I am not on the Presidents or Deans list because my school only does that for people with 12+ hrs. I would be on the Presidents list tho.

Hi, I'm screwed
I don't think you are a failure at all. Your grades are good for the course load!! I would have never passed Anatomy with another science course. My advice to you is to simply cut your academic load down. Take one science course (maybe two only if you can handle it) per semester. However, some people can take that load and do fine. It all depends on you. Let this be a wakeup call. It doesn't mean you aren't fit for nursing! Nurses can only do so much at a time!

Books and those accepted for Spring
Those of you accepted for Spring... does your school require that you buy your books from the bookstore? Or, did they give you a book list? My school wants us to buy them from the bookstore, but I think I'm going to ask for a book list. Im afraid that might anger them though, haha. But it would save me so much money to order my books elsewhere. What are all of you doing about books?

Lets Vent!!!!!!!!
I hear ya. I am pulling a high B now. I am terrified of not bringing it to an A.

dissecting cats
I must say the cats used for cadaver purposes are not local strays. They are bred to be killed by biotech companies. I would much rather dissect a human cadaver than a cat. It work be more applicable & I know the person wasn't killed for the sole purpose of A&P students which half will fail anyway.

How much time do you spend studying for anatomy per day?
I don't study Anatomy every day. I study all day Friday, Sat, Sun, and Mon only for Anatomy. It is the only thing that keeps me alive in there. Our tests cover 5+ chapters each time and we never have any warning about what will be on it. We have to know every fact in those 5+ chapters like the back of our hand. Studying this much will still only pull me out a B or low A. My first test I hadn't nailed down how to study ths amount of info and got a B. The second test I got a very low A.

Anat and Physio vs. A&PI and A&PII...
My community college does that as well. I am in Anatomy and a bit overwhelmed. I agree with you that we are learning a lot of physiology at the same time. And also, as I read some of the posts from people in A&P1 they are learning basically the same things as us! We recently learned muscles and we basically learned the complete physiology of muscle contractions and whatnot.

Math
Hey, I can't remember about when to use the absolute value signs but I kind of remember about rationalizing the denominator. You want to rationalize the denom. so that you no longer have a radical in the denominator. That is the goal. So, say you have x^2 under a radical. What can you multiply by to make the radical go away? Well, you can multiply by x^2 and that takes the radical away. Because when you multiply a powered term by the same powered term under a radical it eliminates the radical. And, whatver you multiply by on the bottom you have multiply the numerator by as well!!! Edit: I tried to set it up and the spacing didnt' work out... this board isn't made for math problems haha! That is an extremely easy one and you already probably knew how to do it... but I always like to learn reallly easy ones first.

So glad to have first A+P Test over!
I know your pain. Except my first test is next week over five chapters. If you have any other difficult courses along with this one it is a real pain! I can hardly find enough time to study and I don't work!! I have college algebra, anatomy, and two other easier courses. I hope with all my heart I can pull out A's in all of them. I suck at math and Anatomy is sooo much info-- I am stressed out! I am currently making a B (I usually dont get b's). I also failed my lab quiz today because I couldnt figure out like 3 of the tissues of the slides. I can tell what they are based on textbook pictures- but put slides in front of me and it is crazy. Sorry, I rambled! I know what you are going thru though!

Anatomy & Physiology Fall 2008
I am currently in Human Anatomy. The schools I am applying to generally want Anatomy & Physi seperate. I am finding it so hard to study for Anatomy and get through all the material! I try to cover each chapter before lecture or I am lost. It takes so long for me to get through one chapter-- I literally can't in one day. I am beginning to think I'm not smart enough. Does anyone have any good study tips on how to stay on top of the overwhelming amount of material?

Spring 09 Hopefuls
I applied to an ASN program that is pretty dang competitive for Spring. My gpa is 3.7-3.8 w/o three of the core sciences (anatomy, physi, micro). They can be taken as coreqs the school I applied. You just had to have one out of the way. I don't think my chances are that good but I sure hope so! Letters go out mid-late Sept. Still anxiously awaiting and the time is coming closer! Plan B: continue taking prereqs at current cc and probably enter depression. I dont do failure well and with my chances not being good i'm scared.

What did you send your apps off in?
Hi! I know this is a dumb question, but I generally wonder about this. I am sending my app off for nursing school tomorrow. Did you guys send your applications off in a manila envelope so you don't bend your papers? Or did you just do a regular envelope and fold them up?? I can't send mine off in a small envelope because I have to include two forms and an official sealed transcript in its own envelope. That obviously won't all fit in one envelope. I don't want to bother them or think I am trying to hard with a manila envelope though. I guess that is what is going to be as it is my only choice! Just curious about everyone else!
