  1. Have a 2001 toyota truck from when I was still a bartender. Paid in full. I could afford a nicer car but it fits all my needs and it's just not so....flashy. That beemer makes a statement for sure (see photo in earlier post). If you are questioning your purchase then question why you are questioning it. Thanks for being honest.
  2. Hi, I work at a hospital where the BSN students from UC San Marcos do their clinicals. This is a great program from what I can see. Several of their graduates have been hired by my hospital after doing an externship. True, there are shorter accelerated BSN programs but they may be including the externship. As far as payment, private loans are usually the way to go. Most of us got em. Best of luck!
  3. Oh, family has already started posting signs in room and on door with things like... "Please do not disturb, patient needs rest". Wha???
  4. "You were hand-picked for this one", or "They've had about six BMs, so far".
  5. I think you mean maceration, not laceration - which it may be. It could also be epibole if the wound edges are rolled under which would require sharp debridement or silver nitrate.
  6. I am constantly surprised on this site when people have their photo pop up with their posts! Even if you are a student, you still are dealing with the public during your clinicals.
  7. When will this knitpicking stop? I'm so sorry, I just can't let this go..it is nitpicking. Don't mean to be picking nits with you!
  8. Thanks so much for the link! I'm going to get the manual and see how comprehensive it is before dropping more cash on the review. Thanks for your input!
  9. Have any of you done the review that was given at the last WOC conference? It is $75 for each specialty. You can download it as an MP3 off of the website. I have completed the online course given by WEBWOC and done my preceptor hours but I only want to take the cert once so I'm trying to be as prepared as possible. I would be interested in that CWOCN review book but am having trouble finding it. What do you all think is the best route?
  10. New grad RNs need proper precepting with staff that is willing, and compensated. We are already so busy. It is not fair to ask RNs to take a full load and take on a preceptee. This movement needs to come from a management level where teaching the next generation is compensated and appreciated. Additionally, managers will always try to shorten the length of time of said promised preceptorship in the interest of getting another body on the floor. OP thank you for starting this discussion.
  11. Good luck! We probably all would screen positive. It would be an interesting study but like the previous poster stated, what would be the consequences?
  12. $2.80 for weekends, $4.00 for nights. Southern Ca, Union, Magnet.
  13. It would be cheaper to pay a family member who could be assisted by home health nurse than it is to keep these folks in acute care. TPN feeding seems to be one factor that makes a pt difficult to place (of course w/ no insurance). TPN is really expensive. I have seen pt's hang around for months on your basic acute med-surg floor just waiting for placement. They just keep getting denied and the hospital is "stuck" with them at the cost of the hospital.
  14. Oh...so this is where the funny nurses hang! Thanks for the laugh guys!
  15. Funny thing is it is not just "text speak". I saw a post the other day and the person kept saying "of coorifice". This was repeated several times in the post. It may seem like nit picking but it really does look unprofessional when basic spelling rules are ignored.
  16. "T" to "T" ratio. Teeth to tattoo as in if they have more tattoos than teeth, probably a meth user.
  17. You may want to use more discretion w/ your posts. I would never mention specific hospital names. You never know who is reading. Could be your manager at Gaylord.
  18. Worked at another "chain" LTAC as a new grad. Great place to work if you ultimately want to do ICU or even ED. You will see everything and every possible intervention (vents, feeding tubes, TPN, tele, you name it. Tons of wound care so you will likely be a go to person for this. I would use it to your advantage. LTAC is tough but you will learn tons. Just be prepared to usually be at your max patient level. If you can work at an LTAC you can work anywhere.
  19. This girl also needs to learn the consequences of posting personal info related to others as a matter of ethics, not just HIPPA. Is that something to LOL about? Sad. Thanks for doing something.
  20. They can do this if you are not union.
  21. Just curious...how many of you make it a point to say "goodnight" or "good-day" to your patients at the end of shift? I know that most of us are so busy and soooo ready to go home at the end of shift that we give report and hit the road ASAP. I feel like it would be a nice thing to wish my patients well but don't always make a point of doing so. What do you guys think?
  22. Could be an employer, coworker, or even a patient who recognizes you from your post, user name, or state affiliation. Don't forget that if someone wants to, they can see all of your previous posts with the click of a button! Either way, not worth it.
  23. How did you know that was playing in my head?
  24. I have to agree w/ original poster. Look at teaching, administrative assistants and other female dominated occupations. I come from an anthropological background so I would venture to say that women tend to think and operate with the underlying motivation being the greater good. Men tend to be more competitive and individually motivated thus allowing them to attain more positions of authority. Don't get your panties in a bunch, there are many exceptions but statistics are statistics and we have many underlying biological motivations that move us through life in different ways depending on our sex. Men must compete with each other to procreate and women are biologically motivated to bear and nurture children. Interesting to think how this translates into the workplace.
  25. Cough up the bucks, do the Kaplan course and enjoy your peace of mind. It's worth it, it's structured, and organized. 75 questions and out the door.
