Duke WHNP MSN Spring 2024
I'm about to submit my application for the FNP program. I've worked as an oncology nurse for 11 years. My BSN GPA was 3.8. One of my references is from a PA that I work with. I spent FOREVER on my personal statements, sent them to my NP (a DUKE FNP program alumna) to review, and revised them. I still have no idea if what I wrote is good enough! ?

Duke University FNP Fall 2024
I'm applying for the FNP program for fall of 2024. I have 11 years of experience as an inpatient oncology nurse. My GPA for my first degree (BA in English Literature) was 3.72, and my GPA for my BSN was 3.85. It was an accelerated second-degree program that took a little over a year. I've spent HOURS on my personal statements. I'm just super intimidated by the fact that they only accept 43% of applicants. I have no idea where I stand, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed...

CHOC February 2012
SNjacks, I don't know if your friend had his/her hem/onc interview yet, but if not, you might want to tell him/her that it's only a preliminary interview! I interviewed for the hem/onc unit yesterday, and they said that they will call people back in two to four weeks and let them know if they get a second interview or not. It would have been nice to have been told this information when they called to schedule the interview.

Any CHOC nurses out there?
Hi everyone! I somehow managed to land an interview for the February 2012 RN Residency program at CHOC, for the hem-onc unit. I'm beyond thrilled that I got an interview, especially since I've applied at CHOC before...more than once. This is my dream job, and now that I "hit the jackpot" and got an interview, I want to make sure that I do everything possible to prepare for the interview so that I get the job! If there's any CHOC nurses reading this, your advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!!! :redpinkhe

New grad jobs in Oncology
Thanks for the info! What does their new grad training entail? How long are you with a preceptor for? I just looked on their website and it looks like they have quite a few openings, not sure they're open to new grads, but it looks like they are.

New grad jobs in Oncology
Hi everyone! I just wanted to ask if any of you are working on an oncology unit that is new-grad friendly. I'm currently in a "New Grad Transition Program" which is basically like clinicals on an oncology unit...except that I graduated from nursing school last July and got my license last August. I love the oncology floor that I'm on, love my preceptor and the other nurses, and of course, the patients. Sadly, this hospital won't be able to hire any new grads until the middle of next year, at the earliest... I live in CA and would like to stay here, but am very willing to relocate anywhere for the opportunity to work on a new-grad friendly oncology floor. I'm willing to spend hours studying and put in lots of hard work...I just need someone willing to take on a newbie! If you have any leads, please let me know! Thanks!:redpinkhe

September 2011 CHLA RN Residency Program
How do you feel about your interview? Was it with three HR employees? Mine was last week, and it was with the manager of the Versant program and two other HR employees. They were all really nice and I feel good about the interview. The waiting is torture though! I was told that I would hear back regarding a second interview by the middle of June... I want this job sooooo badly! I got such a good feeling from all three women, and CHLA seems like a really great place to work! Anyhow, keeping my fingers crossed for everyone who interviewed!!! :redpinkhe

September 2011 CHLA RN Residency Program
Congratulations on the job!!! How exciting!!! :) Isn't it funny how at some point, you forget about some of the places you've applied at? I've seriously gotten rejection e-mails from some hospitals and thought, "Huh...I don't even remember applying there!"

September 2011 CHLA RN Residency Program
I interviewed with HR, and was told that they would be hiring about 50 people. 19 was for CHOC, not CHLA.

CHLA March 2010 New RN Residency
I'm interviewing as well. I was told it's a preliminary interview, and I go to HR for it. Did you already have that interview? If so, how was it?

Are new graduate RN's being hired in Orange County, CA?
Move to North Dakota...? It seems there's quite a few jobs there for new grads! Seriously, if I don't have a job lined up by this summer, guess where I'll be moving to? I've been applying to new grad programs here in CA as well as several other states since last spring. I graduated last July, passed the NCLEX last August, and today I finally got a phone call for an interview. My first in CA!!! I had one previous interview in Texas but didn't get the job, and also got a phone call for an interview in North Carolina, but I didn't go.... So yeah.....I feel your pain!!!! :redbeathe Hang in there!!!!

September 2011 CHLA RN Residency Program
I got a call this afternoon for an interview, and I'm an external applicant as well. I picked the medical and surgical units. I graduated at the end of last July and got my license at the end of August, and have been working at a preschool since October, making a whopping #13/hour, and living with my parents because I can't afford my own place..... I've applied to a ridiculous amount of new grad jobs in CA and several other states, and this is my first interview in CA. So the moral of the story is be positive!!! Everything happens for a reason, and we're all going to get jobs! Hang in there everyone!!!

I still don't have my packet.... going to call them again tomorrow! As far as calls, it said they would start calling people after the April 22 deadline.

September 2011 CHLA RN Residency Program
It should be fine as long as the professor's phone number is on the letter. I still haven't gotten my packet, and I applied on Saturday night! On Wednesday, I was told to call them on Friday, and when I called on Friday, I was told to call on Monday!

Anyone with an ADN and BA recently get hired in a hospital in SoCal?
Hoag hires ADN's. If you can get a CNA or unit secretary job there or volunteer there or find some way to network with nurses and managers there, the ADN won't be an issue. I used to volunteer there, and quite a few of the nurses were Saddleback grads.

Want to work in CA, nursing school out of state?
In this economy, being an internal applicant at the hospital you wish to work at or knowing managers on the unit you want to work on seems to be the ideal way to get a job. So if you want to work in CA after you graduate, my suggestion is to go to school locally and get a job as a unit secretary or CNA at the hospital you want to work at. It's all about who you know...

CHLA March 2010 New RN Residency
Yes, after you complete the training, you work there as a nurse. I'm curious how they decide which floor new grads are placed on, since everyone applies for the residency as a whole and not to a specific department.

September 2011 CHLA RN Residency Program
I applied on Saturday night and I still haven't received my packet! I've called a couple of times, and they said to call on Friday if I still haven't received it. Guess I'll be calling them again tomorrow! What's in the packet, anyhow? I know you have to include your resume, cover letter, and letters of recommendation and an unofficial transcript, but I'm curious what the packet entails... Did you guys watch the video on their website? It seems like such a great program! I'd give anything to get hired there!

Sharp Summer 2011 New Grad Program
I applied to the Grossmont Residency as well, and Mary Birch NICU. I also heard that it takes at least a month after you apply to hear back from them. Let's hope we get phone calls in the next couple of weeks!!!
