  1. Hi classmates! I sent a request to join the Facebook group...my FB name is Melika Dee. Please add me :) I read that some of you already had your background check? How long does it take for them to begin it? I submitted my intent a little less than two weeks ago and haven't heard any info on it. See you all on orientation!
  2. I looked it up a while ago but I believe the application due date for last cohort was mid July. That means they had around a month turnaround to find out acceptance decisions...its interesting how its taking so much longer. I asked for average stats before and the director and office assistant said it really varies. My TEAS score is 86.7 and she said was a pretty solid score. So I'm guessing that may be in the upper range? I can imagine it being more competitive for this cohort. Also she mentioned that the cutoff for last cohort was in the upper 50s for point totals. Hope that helps! I had many of the same questions as well hahah
  3. Do you guys think they will really wait til the end of the month to give out decisions? I guess I'm just feeling really anxious!
  4. @hungrygirl Thanks for the info! Its nice to know that the previous class was diverse in so many aspects.
  5. Yes I received it from that same email that @Madelinee said. Thanks @nursing127, I was wondering how many applications they received. I do too, think they got much more applications than anticipated which is why its taking long. That's just what I think though, I'm not sure about it. Hopefully we won't have to wait literally til July 31st!
  6. Hi @hungrygirl! Since you were accepted to the last cohort, do you mind sharing you stats or the average stats of the previous cohort? I'm sure everyone got the email sent out today that we will now be hearing by the end of July. I know it may be different for this cohort but I'd just like to gauge where I stand in the applicant pool. Thanks!!
  7. Nothing on my end.
  8. Thanks for sharing @ljane8! I'll be gone mid-June so I definitely hope it's either through email and phone rather than postal. Seems like the previous cohorts got phone calls. @shandrager I have the same questions as you...I guess it's just a matter of being patient. in the info session she did mention that they've been trying to increase publicity, so the program most likely has gained popularity. Can't believe its June already!!..the waiting game just got more intense lol. Happy thoughts everyone :)
  9. Hello Everyone! :) Thank you for creating this post! I'm in the same boat as you all are so good luck to everyone that applied! I attended an info session for this program and it was a little difficult to discern the typical applicant that they accept into the program such as avg total points, avg TEAS, avg GPA...it seemed as if it really varied within the previous cohorts. I was wondering if any of you knew anymore specific info on this or even how many applications they received for fall 2014?
  10. Hi MisterSimba, Thanks for replying! I actually reposted this in the General Discussion and was able to get more input. Many of them agreed with you saying that networking is the best way to go. If I were to go to school in southern CA and looked for work in northern CA with no previous network ties, do you think my chances would be any different from applicants out of state? Thanks!
  11. Sorry I'm new to the whole forum thing so I'm not sure how to "properly" reply to everyone :) Thanks everyone for your input! I really appreciate it! Kinda a bummer because I'm really not a competitive applicant. I might have to consider going through a traditional 3 (long) year BSN program if I really do need to go to school in CA. Please let me know if you know any ABSN programs in CA that take the last 60 units other than National, Samuel Merritt, and CSUSM! One more question, aside from being able to network at clinical sites, what if I wanted to work in a different part of CA? For example, if I went to school in southern CA and look for work in northern CA with no previous network ties...would that be any different from going to school out of state? Kyrshamarks - Ideally I wish it didn't matter where you graduate from. Do you think that can elaborate more? nursing.mypassion - Thanks! noahsmama - I'm from the bay area too and I really didn't know it was statewide. I guess I assumed central CA was an easy place for a job. dedicatedone - I just started thinking about this whole state to state thing as I started looking for schools out of state. Anyone please correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that you have to pass boards if you want to work in another state.
  12. Hello Everyone! I am a California resident and am currently researching ABSN and ELMN programs to apply to. I recently started looking at schools out of state. I was wondering if getting my degree from another state would affect my chances of getting hired in CA. For instance, will CA employers see me as a more competitive candidate for a job if I were to get my degree from a CA school. I know many RNs are having a hard time finding a job in denser areas of CA making every detail of an applicant important. Also, with so many nursing schools in CA, I feel that employers would be more inclined to hire CA graduates. Please let me know your thoughts/advice. Thanks in advance!

  14. You're right! Thanks for letting me know!
  15. Hello everyone, I was doing some research on various nursing schools since I'm getting ready to apply and I came across the University of Oklahoma Nursing Program in San Diego. I'm interested in this program but the only concern that I have is whether or not this school is legit since the school stresses online learning. Are there any alumni from this program that could chime in? I'm just concerned about the job prospects and how employers would view this institution since it stresses online learning. Thank you.
