My thoughts exactly!!

When that screen went blank and turned blue after 75 questions, I thought I did so bad the test just stop. But, by the grace of God, I passed:w00t:

Maybe I missed this in the posts, but did any of the supervisors do an investigation? I would think that if a charge of abuse or 'torture' was made by a family member, someone from the facility would go to the home and invesigate. This to me makes no sense if this was not done. I did home care several years ago as a CNA. I had worked with this one couple for about 4 months. When the weather started turning warm, she asked me to clean out her basement and garage, beacuse she would like to have a garage sale and wanted me to get everything ready. I politely told her that I was there to care for her husband and not to clean the basement, garage or organize a garage sale. The next day, she called and filed a complaint with my agency stating she felt I had 'mental' problems and requested I did not return. Fortunately, my agency just shuggled it off, especially since I was not the first one she had made the same complaint about. Get a lawyer, go to the peer review, and defend yourself!! Personally, I love to have students. I think part of the problem is, some nurse forget where they come from.....meaning, we ALL started as students. Most all nurses can remember what it was like to be a student in a clinical setting and want to learn from the experienced nurses. I have student who are assigned to me do assessments with me, do the accuchecks, take pts to the bathroom, get ice, juice, blankets (what ever the pt may request), pass meds and even talk to the Dr when they round. All of this is daily routine. This helps give them a better sense of what we do on our unit. I have even taken students to CT with a vented pt, or have them watch or assist with setting up CBI, or watch a bedside procedure such as inserting a central line or chest tube. We all start at the same place.......a student.

LOL. I have seen bright red and smiley faces, panties under white scrubs, and the obvious thong showing above hipster scrubs. All are very attractive. LOL. Not!! The best panty I have found is actually called The best panty ever. You can get them at Walmart. The best advice is always to go with a neutral color. You don't want to be the 'butt' of your co-worker's jokes :rotfl: :rotfl:

I have known people who do this who need to save a buck or two who are on a fixed income.

On my days off, I just let voice mail answer the call. Thank goodness for caller id

You can refuse an assignment if you feel it to be unsafe, such as taking care of a pt with infectious disease when you are pregnant or immunosuppressed.

You need 10-12 weeks to give you the knowledge and experience to feel comfortable in your new surroundings. You need time with a preceptor to help you with policies and procedures, getting familar the equipment and routine on the unit. There are so many things to learn, 11 days are just not enough.

I clamp. Some pt have such good blood return you run the risk of blood backing up in the line and clotting it off. Just me

Crocs!!! These are the best shoes. I have spent so much money trying to find shoes the wouldn't kill my feet. I work 12 hour shifts and most shoes were fine for about the first 8 hours then just kill my feet. Crocs are cheap in comparision to most shoes, and are very comfy. Airwalk have a shoe that is also very similar to Crocs that are also very comfy. Airwalk come in tie-dyed colors too

It could be a GI bleed, if she was bleeding from her rectum. It's hard to tell the cause of this without more info. Once you have smelled a GI bleed, you will never forget it.....it has a smell all it's own. If she was bleeding from her rectum, nose, mouth, eyes...etc...it could be DIC. Very scary, but also a very memorable experience.

Hospice is my career goal. I have felt a 'pull' toward this direction for quit sometime (from personal experience). I feel I need a little more experience under my belt to be able to do the job and pt. justice. I truly feel it is a great privelage for pt and families to allow you to be a part of such a personal part of their lives. I truly feel this is where I belong

I think you have made a wonderful decision to go to nursing school!! I graduated with my BSN at the age of 44. This was one of the best decisions I had ever made. It was a little scary going to nursing school with people half my age. What I found was, we as students were all in the same boat, all trying to learn the same things. Nurses on the unit that I took a job were very supportive and never made me feel uncomfortable because of my age and being a new grad. I think you will find nurses to be very happy to have you on their unit. Best of luck to you.

Sounds great to me. Anything to make all this studying a little easier.

Pharm is part of my BSN program. I took my pre-req's at a CC that did not offer pharm classes. Pharm is part of most programs here.

Does anyone have a good reference or website for concepts map and or patho map? I would really appreciate any and all help.
