Andrea Yates Psych MR Online - HIPAA Violation?
I wouldn't waste my time worrying about Rusty's feelings as the man doesn't seem to have any. He knew he shouldn't have anymore kids and just went on his merry way. I don't think what happened was that much of a surprise to him and I don't think he is suffering. While I pray Andrea never sees freedom again I also think a murderer was allowed to get off free. Namely her husband. And now he has found someone else to keep him company. Don't be surprised when it is announced there is another baby on the way.:angryfire

New!!!
I am not real sure but I think it has something to do with being able to refuse to work certain areas because of the possible danger. Like in home health there may be certain places that are considered unsafe neighborhoods and you as a woman would not want to go there. But I find it to be a mute point since if I am really scared and I would have to be since I don't scare easily I would just quit if my employer could not see the light. Another thing you could try is just typing in Safe Harbor and see what the internet can tell you. I have learned so much that way since the internet has a wealth of info.

Stop #@$%!* Thief!!!
I'm so exasperated right now I could scream! But I'm going to keep nagging, and if he STILL doesn't do it, I'm going to go over his head and talk to the VP of operations. I don't really want to do this, because we get along great and I have no desire to make him look bad. But this sort of thing violates every sense of right and wrong I possess---it simply HAS to stop, and the offender must be fired and punished. I'm usually pretty tolerant of human frailty, but stealing from vulnerable elderly people isn't a 'mistake', and negative publicity be damned.:angryfire I try to be tolerant of most human frailities by saying sometimes good people do bad things. And if they were stealing from a huge conglomerate I could sleep at nite without any of it ever crossing my mind. But to steal from people who have lost so much already just breaks my heart. It just tells me they have no conscience and will take advantage of any oppertunity no matter who it involves. I have a few ideas. Have you thought of having someone work there for the soul purpose of catching this person. Are you able to at least eliminate some of your employees? That way you could maybe set a trap. Like deliberately leaving money that would just be to tempting not to take. And then you could have a surprise search. You have a right to search your employees anytime you feel you need to. We have to sign something in every place I have worked at saying we realize this could happen. There is no reason why anyone should have a problem with this since why would you bring anything into the work place that could get you into trouble. It is just not necessary so only if you are doing something wrong would someone scream invasion of privacy and all of that junk. Did you know you can even buy fake money? That is what i would do. If no one picks it up then you just start all over. And if someone does take it and you can't find the money well that is just going to be their problem when and if they try to spend it. If you are careful and don't tell anyone other than whoever you have hired to watch for the culprit I just bet this might work. What have you got to lose? It might take time but you will be able to eliminate some and focus on others. Also have you thought of requesting that possible suspects take a lie detector test. Of course they don't have to comply but so what. This is another way to narrow suspects down. You can say that the only thing the person giving the test is going to question about is the theft going on. Nothing else so none of this whinning about privacy should be an issue. You simply have to fight dirty sometimes when it comes to this sort of thing. The secrect is keeping your mouth shut. I would act as if it is no longer a concern and go on to other things. That way the person will not be nervous about being caught. That is exactly what you want. Trust me whoever is doing this is no genuis or they would be stealing money where the profits were better. I sure hope I have helped.:welcome:

Letting CNA pass your meds, bad idea?
- Letting CNA pass your meds, bad idea?
Sorry. All I meant by that is if they get into trouble then somebody had to have said something. This subject sure stirred up a lot of emotions. And the person who started it already said they did it for some research paper they were doing and not because they commited this awful, terrible, horrible autrocity. I think the majority of nurses LVN or RN do the best they can. There are bad and good in any profession. But no one does perfect all of the time. So if they don't do perfect all of the time do they report themselves. I think not.- Letting CNA pass your meds, bad idea?
Well my dear if you are trying to impress someone with your wonderful nursing skills I hope you succeded. And I wish you would learn to read better. I never said I was the worst thing since caps. Geez, I said some of you seem to think I am. You are awful quick to throw insults. In fact you strike me as someone that would never miss an oppertunity to put someone else down. If you really think I am the worse thing you have seen in nursing then you either haven't seen much or you are lying. In any case you don't know much about nursing residents. The majority do not want to take any medicine at all. Some even have to be tricked into taking it. But whatever insult you throw my way this time, I would make it a doozy since I intend to let you have the last word. One more thing, If I have time to debate whether I am going to do something then I have time to do it. So for gosh sakes get off of your high horse. Something about people that insist on tooting their own horn makes me doubt their veracity.- Letting CNA pass your meds, bad idea?

I see what you guys mean about the posts be attributed to the wrong person. I am being quoted as saying something Imaldo quoted. I am so sorry some of you think I am just the wrost thing to come to nursing since the cap but I am only being honest. Please consider this. Nursing home residents are not as fragile or critical as hospital pt. as a rule. I have had to learn what is really important and what isn't if I want to survive in a nursing home.:smiley_ab :smiley_ab- Letting CNA pass your meds, bad idea?
Correct delioso. In the twelve yrs. I have yet to have a problem. A lot of the times residents[not pt.] don't really need all of that junk. But, since the family or the resident themselves seem to think there is a pill for just about any ailment they accomadate. I know and the doctor knows taking antibiotics for a sniffle decreases their effectiveness and helps the ABT. to build a resistance to the infection they still give them since the family or resident insists they are the answer to everything.- Letting CNA pass your meds, bad idea?
Well if I documented it then don't be concerned because I always document what I am supposed to do. And you are sortof--kindof right about your last concern. Although I never do the bare min. I always try to cover my behind.- Letting CNA pass your meds, bad idea?
My goodness where on earth do I say I couldn't handel a Blood Pressure cuff? I plainly stated that the equipment in the nursing home is no good. Geez. And yes I meant what I said about doing assessments and all of that. Never had any problem tho. Maybe I was just lucky or maybe I have learned how to look at residents and know if anything is wrong. Sorry got to give the meds out whether they require BP or not.- Letting CNA pass your meds, bad idea?
Nope you never saw where I said anything about giving a med to a CNA. Better go back and look again. I have said all along I wouldn't do that no matter what. What is so difficult to understand? I think I made myself quite clear. Documenting don't mean ****. But hey you have just reinforced what I said very plainly. By your way of thinking as long as I document I did it then I did it----Right. Wrong. You can't be serious.- Letting CNA pass your meds, bad idea?
I guess that is the difference in me and you. I would never be tempted to ask anyone to help me that was not considered qualified. I would have done and have done exactly what the other nurse did. Someone has to work in the nursing home. So I do the best I can. Document whether it happened or not since that is the most important thing. Ridiculous I know but not my doing. Since I have gotten in trouble for not documenting but never for documenting whether or not I really did the job----I think it is pretty obvious what has to be done.- Letting CNA pass your meds, bad idea?
Thanks but I have no business being in acute care. I am right where I should be. At least I have become proficient in knowing what is going on with residents in nursing homes. No matter where I go the problems are the same. Only the faces change. I tried hospice. Was thrilled at first. But I did wonder why they hired me since there was no work. I got paid for staying home. They barely had anything for the LVN they had much less me. Then a wife turns me in and accuses me of the most ridiculous actions. Now there is going to be a peer review tomorrow and I will get their answer as to whether they will turn it in to the BON in 10 days. All of what has been going on is just crap. If they really thought I abused a pt. then they should have turned me in immediately. Not take up to three months to decide. I have been sick about the whole thing since over two months ago. If they hadn't fired me before they had the peer review then I probably would have gone. This company is something else. Probably nothing will happen but I will not be able to relax until I know for sure. They even paid me for the day they fired me. Geez. I didn't fill out a pay sheet for that day. I told them I didn't want to get paid for that day and they still paid me. I deliberately went for a few weeks of unemployment just because I was furious with them and I knew their unemployment insurance would go up. After all of this is over I fully intend to report their actions to Medicare. I know they are getting money for nothing and they know it. But I guess they have been gettting away with it for the ten yrs. they have been openned so why worry now. I still can't believe they pay the LVN for staying at home. She told me to put office work down if there was no work. Can you believe it? Other hospices do not promise 40 hours a week. and there is a reason for that. Well anyway I got off track didn't I? But I would like to know your thoughts on this since you seem to at least care and want things to be done right. The sad part about all of this is I really believed they had work for me and that I would be busy and I wanted to work. Not stay at home and put down office work that does not exist. - Letting CNA pass your meds, bad idea?
