If I see one more post titled....
Before asking "should I be a nurse" maybe they should tackle nursing school first, spend several thousand dollars for their education, deal with PITA instructors, late night study sessions, clinical experience...... then pass the NCLEX-PN or RN. After all this they should be able to answer their own question. Ohh wait I forgot, they didn't pass boards in the first place!

Need Help!!!!
While reading this I was thinking about the term Holistic Nursing. In our jobs we are susposed to provide care for not just the patient but the family as well. I see this as customer service like. If your caring for the family as a whole then you are providing customer service:)

Mercy Memorial Hospital, Monroe
Your post is what the word around Monroe is. We used to have a very good hospital and in some respects it still is, but the better portion do go to other hospitals and their nursing center doesn't have any better of a reputation. As far as the work enviroment better to talk to those who work there. I am an LPN and reside in Monroe, Mi. Nina

Toledo School of Practical Nursing
Went and took the work keys test today. That was a little shocking to say the least. How did you do with that test when you entered the program? I know I was not the only one who struggled a little with it. Hope tomorrow is a better day. Nina

Curious101, Thanks for your reply. Can you tell us anything about the financial aid process. I understand that we have to wait 30 days into class to apply for loans. But can you give us any more details? Nina

Hey Curious101, I too am entering the January program at TSPN. Nice to meet you. Have been watching the thread thanks for all the information. Melissa and I have already met and have been communicating via Allnurses. The last 6 mo's I have been trying to find someone who is attending the program. Lo and behold one week out and finally we found you. Again any information you can provide is very helpful. Thanks in advance. Nina

Pa hospital system won't hire smokers
Very good point brought to light. Only thing is I am surprised that no one else has commented on post. My husband is a smoker also even though I make him go outside most of the time. Other than that all I have to say is: WHAT IS THIS WORLD COMING TO??????????:angryfire Nina

Quit after first day of orientation!
I think all should take a look at ChuckE's profile. New to Allnurses, (Oct 2009) and from the looks of it does not appear to be in the nursing field, and with only 21 post. Hum....... Nina

Things you don't want to hear your Aide say
This actually happened last night. I do not want to hear this line again in the near future. Aide #1 "Hey can I have an assist in here. I need everything fresh from the waist down including socks! Aide #2 Goes to get the items, returns to the shower area, and then ask "What happened?????" Duh, should be pretty obvious! LOL Nina

Hey I just got time now to get on. :typing I think we were sitting right next to each other. Were you the one wearing the neutral color tank top, with a pink sweater jacket, blond hair, and sunglasses resting on your head? If so I was the girl right next to you in the pink jacket to your right. I kind of took a glimpse at your name on your sheets and when it said Melissa I figured it was you. (Sorry didn't mean to peak) My financial aid date is the week of Nov 16th. Along with the computer classes and the admissions interview. CPR I scheduled for December 15th. I do have both a facebook and a myspace. PM me your E-mail please and I will give you the addresses for them. I did find you on facebook and I sent you a friend request. Nina

Hepatitis B Vaccine
I am in the process of recieving my Hep-B series. The second shot was 30 days after the first shot. The third shot I was told is 5 months later. First shot - May 09 Second shot - June 09 Third shot - November 09 However, when I mentioned that I have a Hep-B client in the home that I currently work in the nurse said I could come and get the last shot as early as mid Septmeber! So I am in that window now and need to get my third shot. Then I have to have titers drawn on just that one shot to prove immunity. Nina

OMG! I am so sorry I must have been so excited that I put the wrong date. The correct date is: October 21 @ 1pm. I am already CPR trained but not for infant only adult and child throught the group home I am employed with. As far as first aid I am certified in it but again only through the group home so I don't know if they will accept it, plus it might be a good idea to just take it anyhow especially since I am out of state. I am already a CNA in Michigan so that will be ok. As far as the computer course I need to find out what qualifies as basic if not then I will probally just pay for it and again take it anyhow. So now we play the waiting game again, another 30 days till we get more info. If you want to study anatomy early check out the website Anatomy Arcade. Someone on allnurses mentioned it and I checked it out today and it is great. Nina

I got fired at a nursing assistant now what!
Could there be something more to this? How long have u been working noc shift? Is this something that occurs frequently? Do you feel tired during the day? Any chance that u get tired when behind the wheel of a vehicle? I am surely hoping that you answer some of these questions yes because if not you are putting patients at jeopardy. If some of your answers are yes you might want to be evaluated for Sleep Apnea Nina

As far as Athena my local mi works office helped me pay for mine. If you take their class straight out it is expensive in the neighborhood of $2,000.00 Our community college has a class for $600.00 but a waitlist. So at $500.00 for TSPN it not such a bad deal after all I guess, however I wonder if your certification is done in Ohio if you will be able to use it in Michigan or if you would have to test out in Michigan if you desire to be a CNA and get a job up here during school. I took my cna through Athena Career Academy in Monroe Mi which is where I am located. Please let me know when you recieve your packet and I will do the same. I take it the school has told you not to apply for financial aid yet. Are you studying in preperation for school yet? And what are your travel plans? It is good to know your a MA as you already have experience with injections and blood draws. That is one of the areas as a CNA that I am lacking. Nina
