  1. Yes, I am from here. Sure, just PM me!
  2. Well it's not a ton, but the cost of living is cheap in Memphis. I just spent the past four months in Boston and sent out over 300 applications, and didn't get even one interview. I applied for a few jobs back in Memphis, and have four interviews next week.
  3. Methodist Lebonheur is $21/hr for new grads.
  4. Has anyone heard if they are going to do this again in September?
  5. You cannot "transfer" to UTHSC. You go there as a new nursing student and no other nursing classes you have taken transfer. You are with a cohort while you are there. I do not recommend it because it is very expensive (I am coming out with $90k in student loans) and I do not feel as if the classes were as high a caliber as at Memphis. My sister was at Memphis the same time as I was and I believe she got a better education.
  6. Do not work at St. Francis- Park. I spent the last eight months there for clinical and it was a horrible experience. The nurse to patient ratio on the floor I was on was sometimes as high as 9 to 1. The nurses there are leaving left and right due to how bad it is.
  7. Not true. You can start at Lebonheur and any Methodist facility as a GN.
  8. You can go to University of Memphis and get financial aid and still work. Do not go to UTHSC, I'm graduating from there in May and I wish I had gone to Memphis instead.
  9. I would continue applying now. I'm graduating in May also, with my direct entry MSN, and my class has 48 others who are graduating, plus all the students from Memphis, Baptist, Southwest, etc. If you wait until after boards, you will have catching up to do. I have had three job offers, but I know others in my class are having difficulty. Good luck!
  10. I am a new grad in Memphis, starting out at $21.50 (I'm getting paid .50 more an hour since I externed there). I'm working nights, so I'll get $4/hr shift differential.
  11. If you want hospital work, go for the RN. Not sure what part of the state you are in, but in Memphis, most of the hospitals are no longer hiring LPNs anymore. St. Francis even laid off all of their currently working LPNs.
  12. I went into a Tier II position without being a Tier I first, I was hired within 6 months of graduation.
  13. Does anyone know if they'll be doing the internship again after the initial group goes through?
  14. University of Tennessee Health Science Center http://www.uthsc.edu/nursing
  15. University of TN Health Science Center has an acute care/family dual track that is online. http://www.uthsc.edu/nursing
  16. I don't see how any HR recruiter or nurse manager would want to hire someone who is visibly pregnant. While they can't outright discriminate against you, I would think they would hire a non-pregnant new grad over you.
  17. So are you and your husband commuting back and forth?
  18. Get used to it. Stuff like that happens all during nursing school. People skip all the time, get caught cheating, bully others, etc. and they still somehow stay in school.
  19. I think I know what the answer will be to this, but I still want to put it out there. I currently live and go to school in Memphis. I'll be graduating in May, and I currently have two paid externships at two different hospitals. I am fairly certain I will be offered a job at both of them (CVICU and OR). My fiance lives in Boston and wants me to move there asap. I've tried explaining to him the job market situation up there, and he says he will financially support me while I look for work. I'm not really sure if I want to go that route and give up a sure thing here and may become and "old grad" while looking for work in Boston. We've been doing the long distance thing just since August and I think I could stick out a while longer. However, he is also a MD for a hospital system in Boston. I know I could use his connections to help me get a job, but I am not sure I want to go that route or not. So opinions?
  20. I am moving to Boston to join my fiance when I graduate in May. I currently have two internships, with two different hospitals here in Memphis. I make $15.38/hr at one and $15.83/hr at the other one, and at the second one I get $2/hr shift differential for evenings and weekends. So if I work a weekend night I make almost $20/hr. So I am shocked at the crappy pay that MGH is offering. I have never heard of an internship once you are a RN, and the pay is so shockingly low, especially for a city as expensive as Boston.
  21. That is great news! I'm graduating in May and moving to Boston to join my fiance. I'd love to have info on your meetup group. I'll be looking for new friends in the area :)
  22. Skyscape has a ton of useful ones- check out their website. Drug guides, lab references, calculators, etc.
  23. I took it through RODP and I don't recommend it. I don't feel like the virtual lab taught me anything and I think it would have been a better experience taking it in a face to face class.
  24. Hi guys! I'm planning on applying too! But I don't see anything on the Vandy website about the summer application being available yet. Can someone direct me to where it is? All the info I'm finding was about the Winter 2011 cohort application process.
  25. Are you calling me a liar? I also applied there and I was lacking one pre-req at the time of application and I was accepted also. She had not taken any pre-reqs at the time of application and was accepted. Would you like me to send you my acceptance letter and her email so you can email her and verify?? Obviously it wasn't a good decision on their part to accept her, as she failed out, as I mentioned earlier. I decided to go for an entry-level master's instead of another bachelor's.
