What else can I do?
I'm in my senior year of RN school. I tried to get a intern position with several local hospitals but have not received an email or phone call. I am desperate need to obtain some type of medical skill training so I have taken a postion as PCT part time to at least get some type of medical experience while working along side nurses. Is there any thing else I can do in the horrible nurse job market. When I graduate I will have over 1 yr experience as a PCT. Will that make any difference once I begin to apply for RN positons? In the Memphis market there are too many RN programs for the amount of positions that come open and everybody wants a year of nursing experince. I know several nurses that work at 2 different hospitals and I keep thinking that those extra postions that these nurses are doing should be filled by a new nurse to gain expereince. Why are new nurse grads treated so badly?

What are the people doing the hiring telling you? Hiring Freeze? Do you think that you will have a better response once you pass your exam?

Memphis Area Job Outlook
I started my clinicals in a ADN program in rual west TN this week. I am very concerned about how new grad jobs are drying up. How can a new grad get experience when everybody wants at least 1 year expereince or requires a BSN to do a residency program. I know there is a ressesion but the number of people needing care if anything continues to increase. What is going to happen when all of the nursing schools graduate nurses (BSN and ADN) that can not get a job. Why do hospitals not want new grads?

ADN or BSN in West TN
I have read several posts from other parts of the country about the ADN Vs BSN degree. Can a new grad with a ADN compete with a BSN in today's enviroment? I am confused as for every post I read that says a RN is a RN reguardless of the degree I read that hospitals are more and more favoring BSN over ADN in the hiring selection. I understand the points about one needing a BSN to move into management and other research positions but I am just concerned about getting a staff nurse postion after I qraduate and pass my RN test. My delima is that I can spend 2 years getting my ADN at a local Community College which will be a low cost route or spend 3 years and get a BSN through a private nursing school at considerable expense. I would rather do the CC route but if the degree will not get me hired I would rather spend the money and time to get to BSN with a better chance of getting hired. Please let me know your thoughts especillay from nurses that are out in the work force.

DSCC Point System
WOW! That would mean that you would have score nearly perfect on the HESI and had a 4.0 GPA. Very Impressive.

Do any of you know what the typical point summary is to be accepted into Dyersburg's Nursing program? When I total up my points it is 20.2. Thanks

Baptist School Of Nursing
Yeap that is the min requirement. Do you know what the typical GPA and Hobet score that is the threshold. I have a 3.1 and made a 74 composite on the HOBET I'm not sure if that is good enough to make the cut.
