  1. Thanks! I started calling every hopsital in the DC/MD/VA/Balitmore region over Christmas Break. Alot of places implied I was too early and some told me when I should call back. I also applied to a few at time time. I accepted the job in March so I only looked for about 3 months or so. The position is in the IMC.
  2. I just interviewed with them in Feb. and they are starting new grads at 28.11. That is factoring in your holiday pay, shift differential for your half nights and weekend pay. The only way your paycheck would increase is if you did overtime.
  3. I interviewed at Hopkins and they somewhat have their nurses on salary. They factor in their 50% day/night rotation, holiday pay, and whatever else you can think of and make it into a rate of 28.11 an hour. I accepted a position at Northwest Hospital and the new grade rate is 24.88 with a 4.25 shift differential for nights.
  4. I accepted a position in Randallstown, MD just north of Baltimore at Northwest Hospital. They were very enthusiastic and helpful to me. They have a fantastic new grad program and everyone is so helpful.
  5. I accepted a job at Northwest Hospital that I will be starting this summer once I graduate. It's in Randallstown, MD and is a part of Lifebridge Health. They were just ranked in Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work for. I'm not sure how many new grads they are looking to hire but they have been so enthusiastic with me that it seems like they really want new grads.
  6. I just accepted a new grad position at Northwest Hospital in Balitmore County and the new grad rate is 24.88 with an amazing shift differential for night shift.
  7. I am in my last semester and will graduate in May. I started over Christmas break and called almost every hospital in the DC/Balitmore region. I got alot of "call back at such and such time" and I also was too late on one hopsital. It's hard to say how each individual hospital will be but I accepted a job toward the beginning of March so I would say starting early is better! Good Luck!
  8. I am from PA (Just 5 mins north of MD) and am in school in WV. I applied to Children's, Washington Hospital Center, and Inova as well as Hopkins and Northwest Hospital in Baltimore. I was contacted by Hopkins, WHC, and Northwest for interviews and ended up accepting the position at Northwest. The jobs situation is better here than some places but it still has a long way to go.
  9. I know when I was looking on www.allheart.com it seemed like they had barely any colors in tall for the dickies scrubs but I found a site that has almost all the colors in tall that I use now. It's www.uniformsandscrubs.com Just go to the dickies site. :)
  10. Hey! I was accepted this spring to Fairmont State for their RN program starting this fall 08. The first thing you want to do is go to their website and head to the nursing area and then the associate degree program area. On there you will be able to look at what they call the score sheet. This is what they use to decide who gets in or not. You can print it out and fill it out as you go. I know that at the bottom of the score sheet there is a place for an LPN bonus. You get 5 extra points if you are already an LPN which is a pretty big deal. The score sheet is out of 38 total points and I had a 38/38 on mine and I know a few girls who had over a perfect score. That being said, I also know that people with less than a perfect got in. I think they said the lowest score that got in this year was a 94%. The TEAS test is one of the biggest parts on the score sheet and you definately want to aim for an 80 on every section if you can get it. GPA and support classes are also part of the score. You can send me a private message if you want to ask me any more questions or if you would like some help on completing the score sheet! :)
  11. Hey all. I have to admit, I am one of the people who is often on here looking but not posting. So a little about myself....I am starting nursing school at Fairmont State in the fall and I am soo excited! I'm from PA but I came out to WV to go to WVU which didn't work out as planned so I am transferring to Fairmont since I have been accepted into their nursing program. I will still be living in Motown since I just can't imagine living anywhere smaller and my friends are here. I know I have a little while to think about things but I'm pretty sure that when I am out of school I will be heading to the DC area to work. It's close to home (about an hour), pay is higher, and I love the city! I'm open to any advice anyone has about Fairmont or really anything for that matter! :) :)
  12. I've gotten my stethoscope (Master Classic) and ordered my uniforms (we order them through the school) and am about to start on the book list. A few of the books that they require us to get are such new editions that they don't come out til June or July so I will have to wait on those but I will be checking Half.com for the rest of them very soon!! :)
  13. Congrats!!! I was lucky enough to find out back at the end of Feb. so I can't imagine how horrible it was to wait this long!! Best of luck to you :balloons:
  14. I know exactly how you feel right now. I applied two times at the school I'm currently at and was denied and in my opinion not even given a fair chance like everyone else both times. BUT the good news is, I thought outside of the box and really decided to try something new and this year I was accepted for Fall 08 at a school about 15 miles down the road. So don't give up if you're getting that dreaded rejection letter!! You can and will make it if you are truly meant to do this! :heartbeat:nurse:
  15. My school actually told us we needed to get the Master Classic OR the Classis II. So I chose the Master classic.
  16. Hey everyone! I won't be starting nursing school in May but I do start in August!!! I'm super excited! I just ordered my scrubs from the bookstore (Maroon pants, White top, White labcoat) and it finally felt real! I also ordered my stethoscope (Littman Master CLassic)! My schedule looks like this: Fundamentals of Nursing Fundamentals Clinical Nursing Theraputic Communication and Assesment English Medical Terminology Can't Wait!!!!
  17. Congrats!!! I know you must be soo relieved right now! I know I was when my acceptance letter finally came the other week! It's the biggest weight lifted off of you.
  18. Hey Allyson, I thought it would be easier to send you a private message so just check your inbox!
  19. I just got accepted to Fairmont. I have been at WVU for the past three years and I only applied to their program once but I didn't even get granted an Interview. They said if you had a 3.0 you got one and I had that but still didn't get one. They favor instate students way more and I'm from PA so I decided to try Fairmont. I had a 38/38 on the scoresheet but a friend of mine got in and she had a 34/38 so it doesn't have to be that high.
  20. I was just accepted to Fairmont State too!!!! I didn't think anyone else on here would even know where it was! lol I have been at WVU for the past three years and I applied to their program once and didn't even get granted an interview and my GPA qualified me for one so I decided to try Fairmont even though I had heard that it was even more difficult to get into. I'm glad I did, I just wish I had done it a year ealier! lol What was your final score on the score sheet? What all do you know about their program? I don't really have any clue what to expect from all of it. I'm soooo nervous! I'm from PA so before I came to WVU i had no clue what Fairmont even was lol I'm right there with you on being sooo scared. I wanted this for so long but now that it's here I'm terrified! I just want to know what to expect. I'm really glad that I will at least know someone though! :)
  21. OMG! This was so funny to read because I feel the same way! I am 21 and a junior. I applied to the school I am currently at for their BSN program 2 times and both times was turned down. I finally applied to a school down the road for their Associates degree program ( I was always to afraid to apply there before because everyone said it's way harder to get into....just goes to show that you shouldn't trust what you here!) and I was accepted just this week. I will start in Aug. and will be done either in Dec. 09 or May 10 (I have all of my pre-reqs done... only nursing classes left). When I'm done I want to get my BSN from the school that I orginally applied to through their online progrm which will take another year, and then I want to go on to some level of graduate school. I'm leaning towards Nurse Practioner right now. All that being said... I feel like it's going to take me FOREVER to finish. Alot of my friends are married and have kids and I feel like I'm the only one left. Alot of these friends didn't even go to college though...they just settled for whatever life gave them instead of fighting for more. It makes me feel better to know that I am working toward a great job that I will be able to support myself with and be completely independent if I wanted to be! We just need to stick with it because at the end it's going to feel great! It's so worth it. Hang in there and know that you are not the only one feeling this way!!!! I'm right there with you! lol
  22. Hey everyone! Well as of this morning I found out I was accepted to the program that I applied too and I am soo ecstatic! But I know what the waiting is like. I applied two times at the school I am currently attending and didn't get in. This was my third time at a school about 15 mins away. Around 300 applied and about 80-90 of us got accepted! I can't wait to start!!! Good luck to everyone who is still having to endure that horrible wait. I feel your pain. I hope that everyone gets in so we can all celebrate together!!! :balloons:
  23. I know how you feel. I am a junior and applied twice to the school that I am currently at and was rejected both times (they don't take many people with less than a 3.8 GPA). I was heartbroken but I realized it is what I truly want and so I applied to a different school that is only 15 mins. from here and I just got accepted this morning. Third times a charm for me I guess. But just hang in there. If it is what you truly want to do with your life then It will happen for you. Keep your head up!
  24. congratulations! i'm so happy for you!!! i'm waiting on my letter and i'm hoping it will be here on monday or sometime early next week! i heard that the rejection letters were sent out two weeks ago so they told me if i hadn't gotten one that i should feel pretty confident! i'll be keeping my fingers crossed! congrats again! :wink2::wink2:
  25. i took the teas test back in november. i went into it without studying and had no clue what to expect!!! but i can tell you that i thought it was very easy. i had a 98% in reading, 89% in science, 91% in math and an 80% in english. i definately thought the english was the hardest but i'm not very good with spelling and they asked quite a few questions on that. i don't know what study materials to tell you to use because i didn't have any of them but i'm sure you're going to do great!!! :nuke:
