  1. I'm all about the Skecher Shape ups now! These shoes have saved my back and my feet. Money well spent.
  2. Working in a clinic, several docs have hooked up with nurses and even lost their jobs over it. One doc has the occasional daliance with a secretary or a pt, gets his hand slapped and back in business! Sadly, I have no personal experience to speak of, but keep your fingers crossed for me! :)
  3. Skecher Shape-ups! They saved my feet!
  4. sounds more like a candidate for Medical school instead.
  5. A "grater tittle"??? Is that something you use in the kitchen??? Ah, just kidding! MA's are not LPN's. MA's do not supervise LPN's. MA's are not equal to LPN's. LPN's have MUCH more training and education than MA's. LPN's have a license, MA's do not. I believe if you do a search you will find an inordinate number of threads on this very topic. Let's not beat this horse again, okay? Time to tuck in my tittle and head to work! :)
  6. Why does there have to be a "closet"??
  7. I'm atheist, I'm out, and I'm proud! I DON'T BELIEVE IN YOUR IMAGINARY GOD!!! What's so hard about that?
  8. I love the Onion! I LOL'd :)
  9. Danskos are great! They have the arch support that I need and they make me taller! :)
  10. Same ole song and dance... No, CMA's are not nurses and should not be called nurses. *YAWN* Why is this a recurring theme?? Why does it ruffle your feathers so? Yes, you've earned your title! No, not all CMA's want to be nurses. No, my badge is not flipped over to hide my title (one of the most ridiculous things I've heard yet!) No, I do not call myself a nurse but I can't help that others do. "Nurse" has become a generic term for anyone working in the office taking vitals and such. It's unfortunate but there it is. Can't we all just get along???? Seriously! I'm so glad I don't encounter this attitude where I work. go ahead, let the MA bashing begin! AGAIN!
  11. People everywhere have been cooking with bare hands since the beginning of time.
  12. While I completely empathize with you and your complaint about the types who frequent the ER, I take umbrage at your disparaging remarks in regard to FP physicians. Bottom of their class? Do you blame FP for the overload in the ER?
  13. The reality is that a fast food eatery is not a sterile environment and to compare your favorite SubSandwich place with a hospital is ridiculous. Yes, they should wash their hands more often, shouldn't everyone? Eating fast food anywhere is always a risky endeavor as they are usually staffed with minimum wage workers who really couldn't care less. Really, who needs mall pizza anyway??? If you're that concerned perhaps you should consider your food choices and not how it is prepared. On the other hand (literally) I'm all for getting rid of those disgusting fake nails on everyone. Talk about a breeding ground!
  14. Once a year... end of Dec or sometime in Jan. I'm expecting it any day now!
  15. Good grief! Why must we be ashamed of migraines?? Because it's mostly a female affliction? If more men got migraines the world would shut down while they recovered. Seriously! You all know it! I've gotten migraines since high school. I've tried everything to figure out the trigger but mostly it's been either stress, hormones, the weather, wine, fatigue, chocolate ... uh, tight clothes, red lights, long lines at Subway, my team lost, irritating people. bad grades, the color red.... well, you get it. It doesn't matter what causes it, it happens and we do what's needed to handle it. I have this "aura".. that whole blurry, flashing lights thing. I feel like my eyeballs are rolling around in my head and, it seems to me, that everyone can see it! Now, if I'm at work, I pop an Imitrex and then try to continue on with pts, struggling to read the chart, acting concerned while my head is exploding.. then the Imitrex kicks in and I'm jelly. Imitrex works for me but it wears me out. I'm lucky to work with a team of docs who understand and are amenable to any solution! I think you'll find that you have more allies than you know. good luck! :)
  16. "Putting the emphasis on "licensed" tells me you consider being "licensed" not a big deal? It is a big deal to those of us who have one :)" The fact that you all consider your license sacred is abundantly clear. We lowly MA's get it. I do respect your license and all your years of hard work earning it. Yes I do! Do I want one? No, I really don't. My emphasis on "licensed" is because that's what you nurses constantly emphasize. I just have to add this.. reading this stuff here makes me so thankful that I work where I do. I have none of this petty bs where I work. I'm respected for who I am, what I do, and the service I provide. Can anyone ask for more than that? We're all working for a living here.. and trying to help people in the meantime.. chill out already.
  17. I'm quite proud of who I am and what I do.. if you don't know that by now you should go back and read my previous posts. I refered to MA's as "they" because I was referring to the group of MA's and not just myself. And yes, nurses are taught critical thinking so that they can make the decisions regarding giving injections. MA's have an MD right there so they don't have that responsibility. What's the issue?
  18. "even give injections"... really? You do realize that family members are taught to give injections, right? Patients have even been taught to inject themselves... I know MA's are not "licensed" but they can be taught to give injections.. it's been observed, videotaped, and discussed. I'm not quite sure but perhaps Dian Fossey has done a study on these bizarre creatures who appear to be human.. but...
  19. Who has an attitude?? From what I've seen it's YOU who has the attitude! There are many "non-nurses" here who post.. are you going to call out the paramedics? the students? the aides? the lay people who are thinking about nursing?... seriously.. is this some secret club? Come on ya'll! This isn't rocket science! It's caring for people! Open up! Welcome those who are trying to help. There's room.. I've checked :)
  20. the MA works under the Physician, bottom line. Nurses are not responsible.. if you have MA's working under you and you don't like it then speak up! or shut up and quit yer ********!
  21. Oh you don't have to "say" it. It's all right here in the forum.
  22. "Inflate the egos of non-licensed persons"?? So tell me, does the ego come with the license?
  23. Oh stunt, you just wanted to stir things up, didn't you? :wink2: Well, I have an idea... how bout just asking if you could speak with a Nurse and NOT a Medical Assistant? Why not just ask what their actual title is? It's just that everyone clumps all clinical personnel into one group called "The Nurses". That's it... long story short. It's not right, but that's the way it is. Perhaps instead of all this hostility we could come up with some positive way to make a change! Hmm? Anybody? Maybe? Seriously! I vow, right here, to start correcting anyone who refers to me as a nurse. Actually, I made a huge issue of this not too long ago in the office and I was met with groans and rolled eyes. And that was from the doctors AND the nurses! But I will give it a go again and remind the LVN's and RN's how offended they should be when someone mistakenly refers to me as a "nurse". And a big hearty THANK YOU! to those of you who stated you've met some wonderful MA's. I happen to be one of them and I'm pretty proud of it!
  24. I have no idea what is going on in Ohio but I must say that the examples of incompetence that you portrayed actually show a lack of common sense and not a lack of education. Common sense, common courtesy, you can't learn that in school, I don't care who you are. I'm all for more education and some sort of licensure for MA's. Bring it on! Teach us! Test us! Hold us accountable! and then... Pay us more! Where do I sign up?
  25. Oh Jodi, I am so sorry for your loss. Sometimes it seems that just when things are going your way, Life jumps up and just slaps you in the face. Go easy on yourself, girl. It's hard work to grieve. Your entire body is in pain, your mind is constantly running, you can't eat or sleep and it takes every ounce of strength you have to just get up in the morning. It takes time, that's all. Give yourself that time. I lost my 19 y/o son two years ago and I can tell you that it does get better, I promise. Hang in there. ~Chris
