  1. Im typically a laidback person. I dont worry about things too seriously. I know I can do the skill but once I am in front of my instructor and my patient, my hands start to shake, and my nose gets terribly runny (which is the one thing I most hate). ...
  2. Hello nurses/nursing students! I just want to know that how do you know you are above the pass point while taking the NCLEX? Do you have SATAs or priority questions? Let me know! Thanks.
  3. How do you know you are above the pass point?

Thanks everyone! I passed too! I tried the Pearsonvue NCLEX trick yesterday, however when I clicked next in the register button, nothing popped up, and I was so in nerves that I closed the window immediately. I thought I had failed, and could barely ...
  4. How do you know you are above the pass point?

Thanks for replying. I had a lot of SATAs too.. although I really did not count how much of the categories I had. How did you do on your exam?

  7. Study Group Question - Do you think you know it?

Same answers to the one above. I didn't know what a nomogram was but I'm going with that as well.
  8. So sick of not having my own Patient !

You should really talk to the nursing school about this. While teamwork is a valuable tool, one should learn how to take care of a specific patient on his/her own, especially when you're on your fourth semester.
  9. The "Teach a Student Something-a-Day" thread!

^^ I definitely need to follow that. Procrastination is a bad habit of mine. I have learned that you should never EVER give a white IV fluid into a vein or a central line with the exception of Diprivan and TPN. NEVER. (Its not my fault, it has occurr...
  10. Clinicals; is this what nursing is really like?

You know what they say; the first one is always the hardest one. I was in the same position as you 1 1/2 years ago, in a nursing home, with nursing home patients, and feeling that "where has all my 3 months of education gone to?".. all I seemingly le...
  11. Is nursing school always so unorganized?!?!

It happens. Because of whatever that is you have to do, you may find yourself behind on readings. In those cases, what helps me is that the night before class, instead of skimming over and learning very few about the topic to be discussed, I just rev...
  12. Am I too old to just be starting?

You're never too old to be a nurse. Sounds to me, those 27 years you had were all filled with interesting careers, I am sure you'll do great with the program. Good luck.
  13. Simply, you can do it. Believe in yourself. I find that many of my nursing colleagues are anxious about test day, most of them are on anxiety medicines, but if you know the material, you shouldn't be anxious at all.
  14. Manual Blood Pressures

I feel like an idiot asking this, I really do. But please tell me the steps to get a manual blood pressure? Its been a year since I first done one, and I haven't practiced since. I forgot where to put in the exact position the cuff (how many inches a...
  15. Hardest class so far...

Yes I am, as a matter of fact. :]
  16. Why are we having so much trouble passing Med Surg?

I LOVE med-surg. Definitely my favorite subject. Its where everything makes sense for me. Just know the pathophysiology is my advice to you. Once you know it, the interventions and contraindications will start making sense. Memorization would do very...
  17. what are the guys' reasons to become a nurse?

Wow great stories guys! I'm 18 years old.. from the time I was very young, I have always wanted to become a doctor. Always have been a passionate kid. I lived in the Philippines for 15 years, and in those years we would have monthly/weekly collection...
  18. Hardest class so far...

Pre-reqs - I had an F in Psychology. It wasn't a tough class, but the teacher was horrible and boring, I did not have any motivation whatsoever in that class. But I do know that it was hard. Nursing School - Definitely Obstetrics. As a man, I had a h...
  19. Horrible study skills

5..4..3..2.. until Daytonite posts. She's got amazing information. Go with what works for you. Usually studying more equals better grades. What semester are you on? I am far different from my classmates; I hate study groups so I study alone and Im gl...
  20. how often do you study?

80 passing rate sounds tough.. for us C = RN , you have to have a 75. That's horrible though, people shouldn't mind if you studied more or not; if they have a problem with that, then they should do the same. Usually, more studying, better chance of ...
  21. how often do you study?

I remember my first interview for nursing school. There were about four of us sitting on a table, and one question they asked was "How long do you plan to study for nursing school?" I honestly did not know what to answer, so I remember what my anatom...
  22. Discrimination towards male students? Need advice.

While I was doing my OB rotation just a couple of weeks ago I was never present for a vaginal delivery even though I have wanted to be in one so bad. My instructor would assume that the patient would not want a male nurse (nurse, not doctor) present....
  23. This thread will change your life forever

I hope I can remember to be compassionate and caring about nursing school 10-15 years from now. It seems that nurses generally get more stressed out and uncaring than when they first started.
  24. Failed Peds.......

Dont let your failures get in your way. Follow your dreams, mistakes are okay as long as you learn from them. Thanks for the advice though, Im sure plenty of us including me appreciate that.
  25. OB nursing in males.

Is any male having difficulty with this? I just did my first OB clinicals 5 days ago, and it was not pretty. I am only 18 years old so I have had no experience with babies and handling them, I was glad I was assigned to a nursery unit because I wasn'...
