Missing only 3 for a 94% is great! What's the problem? If you knew it all, you wouldn't need to be in school Try and relax and learn all you can, tests and grades are not the only reflection of knowledge in nursing school...

Hi! Does anyone know of any good/reputable pharmacology sites? Sometimes I need to look up meds that are not listed in my drug guide. Thanks!

2 days a week 6:30-3:00 for 4 semesters...

I had As and Bs in my pre-reqs and it took me 2.5 years to get accepted. My GPA in the pre-reqs was a 3.6, but my overall GPA was only a 2.8 from doing poorly straight out of HS years before. Keep working hard and follow your dreams... you'll get there!

Well I can see how that could happen...it's easy with so many meds to know them as: this helps to lower your blood pressure while also knowing side effects to watch for are hypotension, dizzyness, fatigue, headache ect... is that a Beta blocker? Ace inhibitor? Ca channel blocker?

Hi! I am finishing up with my first year of nursing school. I am so looking forward to Christmas break off! The first year has been manageable, but when I look back I feel like I could not do it again. The second semeter in our program is said to be the worst which I am in now. I just hope I can keep up the momentum for the second year. I have a family and work part time too! I enjoy nursing school, but am also feeling done. Congratulations!!! It is a lot of work and reading that they throw at you, but just take it one day at a time. Stay on top of your assignments and enjoy all that you learn and you'll do great!!! Good luck :)

Nursing school is much more time consuming and a bigger commitment than the pre-reqs. There is also more pressure to do well, in my program falling below a 78% is failing. The stress of not wanting to be kicked out after all the hard work it took to get in is the hardest part for me. As far as the material is concerned I actually don't find it to be too much harder. It is critical thinking as opposed to memorization as the OP said which I like better. Nursing school is very interesting and fun. In cliniclas there is always something new to learn and I retain information better by actually doing it/seeing it myself so that part makes everything click for me. I love clinicals. It's where the true learning begins for me. The first day can be scary because of the unknown, but just jump in. Know what you are and aren't allowed to do, always stay within your scope of what you've been taught/signed off on. If unsure of something always ask questions. Learn from your instructors, nurses, patients and fellow students. Be proactive in your education and you'll learn tons from your clinical days. Enjoy your nursing school experience!! Good luck :)

I have had some great instructors and some not so great. I also work in the hospital and have lots of instructors come through with their classes... Lead by example please don't degrade people to make a point, it's not very nurse-like. Scare tactics aren't productive in RN school. Just causes extra stress and scattered students who become afraid to ask questions... ummm hello DANGEROUS!! Everyone starts somewhere, remember? No matter how much you read/study you will not fully understand some things until you do/experience them x amount of times. Good grades don't always make a great nurse. 100% of our grades come from tests. If you don't test well, watch out you'll be cut. Some other ding dongs test just fine and go on to pass the NCLEX!!!! Scary. Personality, social skills and intentions should weigh more in RN school. Most people take RN school very seriously already after years of hard work applying and trying to get in. Make it enjoyable for us, we have dedicated our heart and time and loads of money for this!!!! To the outstanding instructors, THANK YOU for making a difference and investing in the nursing field and my future. The experiences and knowledge you bring are priceless and truly appreciated. Thanks for the kind words and support when we need it the most. People like you are the reasons why we admire nurses. We'll never forget you!!!!!

It's nursing school, your expected to be super-human! My program says no, they don't want you in clinicals sick and you are allowed to miss one clinical day per semester. Don't come sick and don't miss! Haha luckily I have never missed a class nor been sick!! Knock on wood, thank goodness!

My doctor with my first baby was very sweet and he asked me if I had a birth plan, I said "yes, my husband is to bring me to the hospital asap and I want you and your highly trained nurses to take over and take great care of me and my baby." He said "I love it!" Of course I wanted to hold my baby right away and nurse her, most health care professionals want this too if possible. My daughter came out not breathing and needed to be stimulated and was given a little O2 then brought to me to love, hold and nurse... it was perfect :redpinkhe I will always be thankful for everyone involved in the births of my beautiful healthy children. Sometimes I think the looser birth plans will let you enjoy the wonderful and sometimes unexpected journey the birth turns out to be. You really never know what the day will truly be like till you experience it.

I'm with you girl! I have 4 more days left of my first semester... I can't wait to finish one semester!! Congrats on half way!!

You will be busier and nursing school takes dedication, but you will still see your son and have quality time with him. I remember people saying the same thing to me and it felt horrible. I still spend lots of time with my family. I even made it away for the weekend somehow three times during the first semester. I never miss school though and always make sure I understand all the concepts and skills we are learning. You can be an awesome mom and successful nursing student... don't let anyone else tell you different. Good luck and enjoy it!

I wear white to school and really don't like it that time of the month. So far no problems... thank goodness. I wear both kinds of protection to be sure :) For work I always wear dark colored scrubs when I have my period.

I finally got into nursing school after applying to what felt like forever and I'm a week and a half away from the end of my first semester!!! I think this is my first post since I've started which is so funny to me. I thought I would be on here all the time as a student. First semester has been enjoyable. It's a lot of work, but managable. How much tougher does it get?? I work part time and I'm a proud mom of 2. Just wondering and wanted to reconnect with allnurses...

Congratulations!! Just try to really enjoy it. It's a lot of work, but very interesting and fun. Get organized in whatever way works best for you. Don't miss class/clinicals. Make sure to stay on top of the information, but make time for yourself too. You need to have a life and some downtime to decompress. I truly believe you need to take good care of yourself in order to take good care of others. Have fun! :redpinkhe

I don't think nursing school is that bad either. Maybe because I heard soo many horror stories as well before starting. I'm only in my first semester, but I was prepared for soo much worse. I have hospital experience as a CNA and I think that has really helped too. I think the hardest part is the early hours while also working pms and raising a family. It will all be worth it though!! I still spend time with family and friends when I can. I was so worried about not having enough time with my kids. There are days that I miss them, but we have a lot of time together too. School is interesting and fun so that helps. Good luck to you!!

Exercise to build strength to better perform ADLs? Nursing Dx self care deficit?

I am not a nurse or nursing student yet, but I am just so curious as to why you want to use exercise as a nursing intervention for CHF? I think you need to start with the nursing diagnosis and come up with interventions based on that and not try to find a diagnosis so you can use an intervention.

I am sorry that you are dealing with this unfortunate situation. Especially when it is something that your heart is in and you've put forth so much effort and hard work towards your goal. Press on, you'll get there. What in the world is up with some of these nursing instructors?? I have heard countless horror stories about mean/degrading counter productive instructors. It's so hard to get into programs these days maybe there should be more strict screening on the instructors that are hired to train the select few that are accepted. This tactic might work for prison guard training maybe, but nursing... it's bizarre to me.
