You guys are incompatible. I think it would be a good riddance for the BOTH of you. So he is a liar, and you are overbearing and over reaching. If he doesn't want to vaccinate for whatever reason he holds dear to his heart, because it is much easier to be vaccinated than non vaccinated, I find it appalling that you would ask to do it "for you". I don't see this relationship having a good end, it would be better for the both of you to cut your losses now.

No. I believe each healthcare worker should choose whatever is best for themselves, including their religious beliefs. It is not for me to judge. I am not a nazi.

What goes on between me, my employer and my health care provider is personal. So is what goes on between my peers, their hiring authority and their healthcare provider. It is not for me to pressure anybody to do anything. I am not concerned about a peer telling me anything about any decisions for my body, because I know the conversation would end really fast with them being redirected to their own lane. I don't discuss my personal healthcare with anyone that is not on my care team, or needs to know. My peers do NOT need to know. I certainly do not need to know their personal situation either. The public is made of individuals. Each person can decide how to take care of themselves and what they are willing to do or not for the "greater good", while I would educate a patient, my peers are NOT my patients. I will never put pressure on any of my peers to do anything that involves their own health care or bodily autonomy.

Their body, their choice. It's not for me to tell my peers what to do with their body. And if anyone tried to tell me what to do with my body, I would tell them to mind their own business.

I have been an LVN in corrections for over 10 years, 11, next month actually! I LOVE it! I would never want to do any other kind of nursing! The pay is excellent, the benefits are superior to any other job around here. It is a dynamic environment that requires a lot of FAST critical thinking. We have trauma (at least a couple of times a week in my yard), stabbing, occasional gun shot wounds, seizures, overdoses, infected heroin infected sites, hangings, foreign bodies in people’s colons, infected tattooed, marbles in the member, you name it! We got it! I feel very safe in my maximum security prison, the officers are top notch, the inmates are for the most part respectful, and everything runs like a well oiled machine. As a charge nurse in a nursing home and former CNA, I was physically assaulted multiple times, sexually harassed by residents on multiple occasions, chocked, punched and almost stabbed by a crazy old lady whose daughter thought it would be a great idea to give her mom a huge super pointy pair of scissor because “mom loves to sew”. Talking about that, NOT dealing with the families of my patients its worth the world’s weight in gold to me! I cannot even begin to imagine why an LVN would want to work in any other setting. This type of nursing is definitely not for everyone, but if you are the kind of person that has strong personal and professional boundaries, likes to make money (my first two years, I made over $100,000 each year, and was able to buy and pay off my house), wants to retire one day, and you can sift through the *** manipulative tactics of the inmates, while keeping a fair and consistent attitude, please come on in and welcome to the dark side.

Come to corrections! At least here in CA, it is safe, well paid, has good benefits and it is quite interesting.

Very few nurses in my facility are taking it. You have EVERY right not to put something in your body that you do not want.

I find memberes without foreskin as disturbing as an eye with no eyelids, or a mouth with no lips. Men get adhesions and scarring in their foreskin because in places where mutilating memberes is "normal", parents or intact children are advised to retract the foreskin when it is not ready to separate from the shaft. This damages the delicate mucosa inside. People simply need to stop messing with the genitals of children.

Women produce lady partsl secretions. It is also involuntary. Nobody suggest mutilation to fix that "problem". Men are perfectly capable to clean their intact memberes, the same way that everyone can brush their teeth, clean behind their ears, maintain their fingernails and toenails, clean their perianal area, etc. Should we start declawing babies, pulling the teeth of children, and cutting their ears off just in case they turn out to be dirty individuals?

I am all for banning ALL surgery of genitals for children. No just for the intersex, or for females, but also for males. A male infant cannot consent to his genitals being permanently altered because the parents want it, or because of their religion (the child has no religion). It is cruel, unnecessary, and I am appalled that this is legal, and that people take money to hurt children like this.

Have you written this person up? If not, then you need to start. You tried the direct and nice approach first, and it failed. Now it's time for the people with higher salaries and HR to handle it.

Just like judging your patients is definitely not a good thing, judging your coworkers or potential coworkers is not a good thing either. It is perfectly OK to redirect the person that is being unprofessional by telling you their opinion of their patient. You for sure, do not need to join them in that bad practice. In corrections, it is EXTREMELY important to have your coworker's back, and for them to have your back. Think of them as your brother or sister. Do you like everything about your siblings? Probably not, but hopefully you will still be loyal to each other. Splitting staff is a very common method of manipulation by the inmates. Inmates scan you! If they detect a "Hollier than thou" (or "More open minded than thou") attitude, they will zero in on you. Inmates can sniff division a mile away and they will use it to their advantage. Plus, simply working in corrections changes you. If your coworkers don't seem to be all cheerful and peppy, they have allowed the negative environment to grind them down. It is tough to keep a good attitude over the years, you have to work hard, kind of like in a marriage in which after the initial whirlwind romance, you have to work hard to stay in love. Don't judge people like that too harshly, their unprofessional attitudes are probably a coping mechanism, and while it is wrong, it is also very human. Watch out, that might be you a couple of years down the road!

I have co-workers that cannot do basic medical math. For example there was a med, and we were supposed to give 5 mg. The pills came in 2 mg. Right on the label, it said to give 2.5 pills. This co-worker kept arguing that the label was wrong, but she did not know how many pills to give. I tried to explain how to work out the math, she did not get it. I finally broke down, and I drew dots on a piece of paper. "One dot equals one MG, so each pill is worth 2 dots. So, 2 dots from the first pill, another 2 dots for the second pill, and since we are cutting the last pill in half, you only have one dot! Now count the dots... one, two, three, four five! So, 2 and one half pills, make 5 mg" She was still confused but gave the med anyway. She also cannot figure out the volume of a medication, for example insulin. In our software (CERNER), we have to enter the units AND the volume. So... 2 units = 0.02 mL, 30 units = 0.3 mL That is WAY above her math skills. I would hope the NCLEX would weed out people like that, but it does not.

My mom is a retired ER nurse. When I was about 7, I was playing outside, when my mom arrived, and she told me. "If you ever feel the need to shove a bottle of coke up your lady parts, DON'T DO IT!". I of course said OK and kept on playing, I had no idea you could shove things in the lady parts anyway... Many years later, I asked her why she said that to me, and she chuckled and said that they had brought a 14 year old girl with a GLASS coke bottle in her lady parts. It created a vacuum and the more she pulled on it, the more the bottle tried to crawl in there. They had a really hard time getting the sucker out, and the girl was not only totally embarrassed but also in terrible pain.

Don't take it so hard. It is not that big of a deal.

Awesome job doing great quality CPR and giving that child a chance to live! I cannot imagine doing CPR outside of work and especially on a little child!

I feel really bad. Both for you AND for your preceptor. ICU is such a fast pace place. Everything can go hell in a hand basket in a matter of seconds. It is not a place to be insecure and second guessing yourself. We all have different abilities and personalities, perhaps you are better suited for other settings that do not need to you jump in action, take charge and make life or death decisions on the spot. I do not want to be mean. I hate to say it, but if you really want to be there, then you need to grow a thicker skin, pull yourself together, read up on all the meds and procedures and really step it up! 13 weeks fly by so fast! Or, if you feel that the setting would cause too much stress, find something else! If there is one good thing about nursing is the variety of places where you can work.

What does your social media look like? I have friends that had trouble finding a job after nursing school because their facebook was full of drunk selfies. Do you look professional when you drop off your application or attend an interview? I got my first LVN job, hired on the spot 2 days after getting my license. Later I asked the DON why she hired me, and she said: "You came in in a suit, with your hair sleek into a bun. I had applicants come to drop off applications wearing low cut tank tops and fuzzy pajamas".

When my patients ask me, I am honest: I would not touch that shot with a ten foot pole. Then I hand them the insert to read it, and come to their own conclusions.

I think it is selfish to expect the healthy individuals to be poisoned with heavy metals, for the sake of the immunocompromised.

WOW! No wonder why nursing is in such a deplorable condition. No critical thinking whatsoever. I would hate to have any "flu-shot taker" as my nurse, because they might give me some medication that might kill me just because "the doctor told me to". Hey, if you want to shoot yourself with shots and you like it, go for it! But not everybody wants that, and it should NEVER be mandatory. We as a group need to stand up for our human rights. We have the right to be safe in our person, that is a constitutional right. Flu shots are not 100% safe. Not a risk I am willing to take. Pleople should not have to choose between their job/school and safety/giving up their human rights. As for myself, the second I am "mandated" to take a shot, I will refuse, and if I lose my job, I will sue and get my job back. Why? Because the constitution protects me. The true solution for the flu problems is easy. Let people that are sick, stay home until they feel better, without penalizing them. As for the OP, if you choose not to pursue nursing: GOOD FOR YOU! Nothing but backstabbing lemmings would surround you anyway.

Mask, most definately! The flu shot is not worth the risk.

Don't wear blue (especially navy blue/blue jeans pants,) NO chambray blue (scrub top). No Orange (especially pants/top combination). No gray sweatshirts. No gray pants. No forest green. No white (when it is white pants and white top). No anything that depicts alcohol/tobacco/drugs consumption, or anything that *might* look like its gangster related. No Camouflage. I don't work at pelican bay, but I work in another CA prison. Good shoes was an excellent suggestion.
