Anyone currently in the Excelsior bridge program?
Hi all, I too am seriously considering the Excelsior program for LPN to RN. Does anyone know if the Board of Nursing in in Minnesota accepts this college? Any Minnesotans who have taken this route? Thanks in advance.

Happy HANAKKUH!!
Happy Chanukah to all....it was truly an amazing miracle wasn't it? God...the Father of Abraham....the Father of all 3 of our main faiths...I love this time of year because hope is on fire in my heart as a result of the miracles celebrated and honored during this time. I think a "Family Reunion" would be awesome...all 3 faiths coming together to acknowledge our common ancestry...in PEACE. Merry Christmas too! Be Blessed, Alyx :wshgrt:

Does your hospital allow you to say "Merry Christmas"??
What is the logic behind this? 70-85% of the American population is Christian. So we would rather not risk offending 15-20% of our poplulation as opposed to the rest? This is just some kind of logic that I have never understood...Can someone please explain this to me? Personally, I Always say Merry Christmas and Happy Chanukah...If I remember right, that's what this time of year has always been about!

The patient who wouldn't stop screaming...
Gosh...hate to admit my ignorance but what is this?

"I Agree" button?
Maybe someone could start a poll for this. There's the "thanks" button, but often I just want to agree. Wouldn't it be nice if we had such an option? What do you all think? And maybe even an "I disagree" button?!

Being a nursing student
We are on our second set of clinicals...one semester to go...doing an assignment on the care of the elderly post CVA. A question comes up about what interventions you could do to be sure your patient doesn't pocket his food? A fellow classmate, God Bless her, asks us cruiously...."Wouldn't you just look inside his pant pockets?" We're still laughing. Funny thing is she's really smart...I think this question just blind sided her.

Nurses: Mandatory Vaccinations?
I'm up to date with tetorifice...go barefoot a lot so that's important to me... Refuse to ever get a flu shot...Hep B is now required beginning with Spring semester at our college but I will be refusing that one too...waiver signed and research against it done and presented to support my position. You do have rights you know.

I shouldn't be a nurse...
I totally agree. We can't be all things at all times. Why do you believe that what you did was a "Mistake"? You did the right thing. You would have really been in a pickle if you had left those meds and they had fallen into the wrong hands. That's where your mistake would have been. I think you did a fantastic job ; way to go handling a fall and preventing a med error! Your deep concern is a refelction of your dedication and passion for what you do and should be applauded...perhaps it's your point of view that is the real mistake here...pat yourself on the back. I'd be honored to have you as my nurse!

Telling it how it is.
I'm a firm believer in.."It's not what you say but how you say it" and always "Speak the Truth in Love"...if it brings about results then great...we have become a whole society afraid of speaking the truth because of what others may think or say about us..it's time we all got back to speaking the truth in love. A doctor came in and told my dad..."you've got cancer and there's nothing we can do about it. You have 2-3 months", then he left the room and sent a nurse in to deal with his beating. What a jerk. Could have been done so much better. And it wasn't totally true either. We did plenty and he lived another two years. It wasn't what he said but how he said it. We can all do so much better with our patients. Thanks for sharing.

Anyone heard of Diastolic BP being higher than Systolic???
just think about what a monitor looks like...if you start your first thump at 130 and you're heading down...how do you suddenly get 150? She was certainly mistaken.

Help with Nail gel for real nails
Nail Tech of 25 years, now into nursing. Having said that...acrylic and gels nails should be banned from health careand the food industry. If you knew what I have seen and smelled working on artificial nails, you would agree with me wholeheartedly. Ya...they look great but...SO UNSANITARY!!! Gross actually. I know many nurses get away with it because I've seen them in clinics etc, but if I were in charge they'd be banned.

You're JUST a nurse
How about...."Oh...you must not have a college degree then?!" hence your lack of understanding what it actually takes to get one! Or one of my favorites not necessarily used on patients but...."Be careful...your ignorance is showing!" Stops them in there tracks if only because they're too du-b to understand the statement.

Discouraed and about to give up on Nursing
{{{{{:icon_hug: }}}}}...God will help you just as you asked. This too shall pass and everything will work out. You're educated and skilled....don't give up...your frustration and pain is a reflection of your true compassion and hearts desire. Sounds like there is a lot of change and stress in your life right now....slow your mind down...I agree with the career counselling idea. I don't think you need a new path in life...this is your path, just maybe a stroll along the river for awhile!!! God Bless you as you search and find.

Most Dangerous Part of Nursing

ED-did you always know?
OK...so you weren't talking about erectile dysfunction. I'm sorry but my mind went right there and finding the post odd I just had to read it. Thanks for making me smile at my own stupidity...sometimes you can dress me up but you just can't take me anywhere.

Nurses! Please! I Need Your Advice!
Here's some of the best advice I ever received from a friend 40 years my senior...."Don't be a woulda, shoulda, coulda!" I'm 44 and will be graduating in Spring with my LPN. Same circumstances as you....except for panic attacks vs. colitis. Worth every sacrifice big or small....I refuse to be a woulda coulda shoulda. Best of luck to you in your new future. You can do it!

RN husband addicted to opiates
I'm so sorry for your problems. Life just isn't fair sometimes; but it is lifenonetheless. I see it two ways...everyone has a choice and you do too. You can either "Live now" (if you call this living) and pay later (because you all surely will) or......pay now....and live much better later. I'm sure you will be helped by all your family and friends as you go through it....and go through it you must. But in the end...it will work out, it always does. God just has a way of doing that for us. This will only get worse, as you know, the longer you wait. Go to his boss, administration, the hospital social worker...tell them what's going on and bring evidence (like the needles). They can run tests on the ingredient for proof...ask them for help. It's a start and one day (soon hopefully)you'll look back and give thanks with a smile as youhold your head up for doing the right thing and overcoming just one more of life's battles. You Go Girl...save your family...YOU CAN DO IT!!!
