Share why your current job sucks and what you hope will be different in nursing!
My last job was a soldier. It just wasnt for me. I deployed to Iraq and hated it. Want to talk stress, I dont think there is anything more stressful then worrying about your life, being thousands of miles away from your family, and doing a job you hate (truck driving). I got out and decided to go back to college to find a new career, and that is when nursing "found" me. In the Army I had stability, paycheck every two weeks (not that it was anything to brag about), healthcare, but it just didnt make me happy, so I hope nursing will be more enjoyable for me.

Nursing Admission Essay
Honestly, I would take a different route. Everyone has someone in thier family with an illness, and that doesnt mean they will be a good nurse, or if nursing is right for them. Also, I was always under the assumption thats nurses dont diagnose.

i need 2 more classes...any suggestions?
I have to agree. Being Bi-lingual will only help you when its time to get a job....brushing up on math is a good idea as well. Our school offers Critical thinking which I was told by my advisor is a good elective to take. A few more I can think of- sociology, womens studies, religion, and cultural studies.

Note taking question

I saw some at the bookstore (books a million) the other day, I think im going to get them as well. Who really has time to make all the flashcards anyway? As long as you study them you will benefit from them, or at least thats what im thinking :)

Do Nurses STILL want to marry Doctors?
I would never marry someone based on thier job, status, or income. I married a soldier. He is gone all the time, gets crappy pay, yet I love him with all my heart.

Any military wives in here??
I know for army...they have a new thing where if your husband has 6 years in and re-ups he can give you his GI bill....we might do that for me to go back and get a bachelors...right now im paying out of pocket for my ADN but its not that expensive.... Wow...I think you guys for the all the replies...but I have to ask...how did your career suffer? Was it because you didnt have the chance to advance or get the job you wanted?

Things you would LOVE to say to your nursing instructors...
hey, you dont know that persons life thats not fair to judge. In the real world (outside school) there are going to be tons of distractions and you still have to perform. I know my husband is going to korea and if I get a call (granted my phone would be on vibrate) I would step out to talk to him, and raise hell if I got any crap about it. That person could have sick kids, or whatever thier case may be.

Any military wives in here??
Im 21...almost 22 and there is just no way im going to put off my goals for that long lol...hubby knows that, and thankfully I will be able to finish school in one spot. I just hope that I will be able to get a job wherever we go (germany is unlikely considering the MOS he is reclassing too, thankfully). I hope it works out, lol.

Any military wives in here??
thanks...my husband just got orders for korea, which sucks but it ensures me that I will be able to finish all my pre-reqs while he is gone. His return assignment is back here at bragg so thankfully I will be able to finish nursing school here as well. (he is going to reclass to a mos that is mainly stationed here as well)...I guess I just stress out so much lol. Im hoping my career will be able to follow wherever his leads him. He has only been in for 5 years, 3 more to go, and will prob re-up again. Yay lol.

Any military wives in here??
Hi, Im Shawnette, and I guess you could say im a pre-nursing student and cna. My husband is a sgt in the army...and plans to stay that way. I was just wondering if there are any nurses or nursing students are in this board and if they could tell me thier experiences balancing thier hubbys career and thier own. For now, im lucky because I should be able to finish school in one place. Does anyone find nursing a career that will follow them everywhere? Has being a military wife ever stopped you from your own goal?? Thanks!

What path should I take?
If you dont want to be a cna im not sure why you are going in nursing...either way its going to take time any path you go on. Im taking the community college route. Im just starting my pre-reqs this semester and should get in fall 09.
-
How'd you do it??
I have the same problem. Im going to finish all the courses for my top choice school and apply to two others...I noticed the other two ask for one extra class so I might try to do that one class as well depending on how I do. Im considering applying for the LPN route at one of my backups, it requires a lot less classes.

Pre-reqs
Hi, Im starting my pre-reqs this upcoming spring. Im taking - expository writing, general psychology and A&P this spring semester. I have been out of highschool since 04..I know it hasnt been that long but im kind of nervous. Im trying to get all my pre-reqs done in the next 3 semesters so I can apply for fall 09. That would mean I would have to either take A&P 2 during the summer session which is only 8 weeks long...or not have micro done before I apply...any advice?? Also, stupid question, I took the cna course last summer and passed but due to unseen circumstances I have yet to take the state board...should I re-do the class or just take the state board? Thanks!
