  1. I graduate this week. You guys have nothing to worry about. Expect changes, but nothing you can't handle. Chamberlain is expensive and a pain, but so are all NP schools. Just jump through the hoops. It goes fast!
  2. I used Back to the Basics, Wingfield's book and FAST (Flightbridge) for the CFRN. Good luck.Roger

  4. It is caused by hypodilaudidemia...

    Laura Gasparis DVD's!
  6. I just passed the CEN test. I used the Laura Gasparis DVD's and a brief browse of Pearl's Review. Found the test pretty easy overall. Best of luck!
  7. Insert the needle, and get a "full" flash. Slowly advance the needle about the length of the bevel. Then advance the catheter approximately the distance of the bevel. Then advance the entire unit once the bevel has been "hooded" by the catheter. You will feel a "smoothness" in the advance. Then advance only the catheter and withdraw the needle. I assure you that you will not feel a thing! I'm sure that was confusing, but that is the life in the ED...

Took the words right out of my mouth/keyboard!
  9. I start the RN-MSN program this month. I'll let you know how it goes. It is pricey, but so far the customer service has been stellar. I began processing with the local brick and mortar university, and were horrific (acted like they were doing me a favor every time I attempted to speak with them).
  10. Thanks msjchuck! Good points to consider!
  11. I am definitely leaning towards ER, as it seems like a custom fit for my background. I don't really want to work with sick/injured kids, but I guess it comes with the territory! Thanks!
  12. I am in need of a little guidance in my nursing career. I have been an RN for a few years, and have worked in a variety of settings (Med-Surg, Ortho, Rehab, Hospice). I was an LPN first, so I was able to spend some time working in various area as I completed my RN education. I am currently employed in an Ortho/Rehab capacity. While I enjoy the time spent with patients in these settings, I also find it mind-numbingly boring! I also feel my overall skills have diminished in these settings. Before I was an nurse, I worked in Law Enforcement and was also an Army Medic with combat experience. And honestly I greatly miss the adrenaline and team work in a high stress setting (probably a little sick, I know). I am considering a move to either the ER or ICU. I am relatively familiar with the mission and day to day operations of both entities. Any input on which area to choose and why? I greatly appreciate your time and patience with my verbosity :-)
  13. I watched my father eat the diet as prescribed by the AHA, and he died at forty-five of a heart attack. I was on the same path. I was eating as the AHA recommends, and my labs were always horrible. Despite exercising vigorously at least an hour per day, and taking enough statins to treat a horse, my LDL and triglycerides were always through the roof. My HDL was always woefully low. I carried a good amount of visceral fat, despite my avoidance of fats and my lengthy exercise sessions. I had GERD daily, was placed on medication for HTN, and required pills to help me sleep. After switching to a paleo/primal diet my life changed dramatically and rapidly. I was off of BP medications in two weeks. Within a month I no longer required treatment for GERD. I stopped taking sleeping pills within several weeks. My labs have never been so good (i.e. my triglycerides went from as high as 1300 down to 45). I feel stronger and better than I did twenty years ago! So, yes, I absolutely educate my patients on the benefits of the pale/primal lifestyle. I point them in the direction of Robb Wolf (Paleo Diet Solution), Mark Sisson (Primal Blueprint), Gary Taubes (Why We Get Fat, and What to Do About It) and Dr. Davis (Wheat Belly). I have had patients come back to me months later and tell me that information (put into practice) changed there lives as well!
  14. I really enjoyed LTC, but have recently switched to hopsice. So far I love it! I get to go to all the LTC facilities still, but get to leave when the fecal matter strikes the oscillating device!
  15. I'm allergic to the 9th beer...it always makes me vomit...
  16. I have several years experience as an LPN, frequently thrown into the position of leadership. I just graduated with my ADN. I have been offered a RN supervisor job near my home. During the interview I got the distinct impression they weren't concerned about my lack of "proficiency" in their paperwork (it is a rehab/subacute setting). They were more interested in my ability to take control of the facility once the administration goes home for the day (3-11 shift position). I gathered that the CNA's more or less run wild, and they need a strong personality to regain control. I am a new RN, but I have been a leader for a long time....this should be an interesting experiment! Any other words of wisdom Nurses?
  17. I graduated from LPN school in 10/08. Finished at the top of class, with zero difficulties or challenges. I have heard SO much rhetoric about how much "harder" the RN program is. I start the LPN-RN bridge program in August. I can't wait to challenge that program to see just how much "harder" it is. I have a funny feeling that I will have similar results. We will see!
  18. Excellent job!
  19. I am sure you did great. I found that just paying attention in class, following the assigned readings, and researching subjects on my own prepared me well for the nclex. It seemed that most of my questions were prioritization questions, and I also had a lot of questions about pregnancy and babies (an area in which I am not exactly the strongest).
  20. Thank you all, now off to RN.
  21. Well I guess wine makes you smart because I passed! Thank you for all your support and kind words. Now...more wine! :)
  22. Shut off at 85 questions, and went by very quickly.
  23. Scheduled tomorrow morning @ 0800hrs. I am taking the unorthodox approach of drinking wine and hanging out with my dogs instead of studying tonight. I'll see what happens tomorrow!
  24. If memory serves, I believe former TUF member and current UFC fighter Rory Singer was a nursing student at the University of Georgia at Athens. He is also a former teammate/roommate of the current LHW champion Forrest Griffin. Useless trivia I am sure.
  25. Your facility is crazy! Before switching to nursing, I worked as a cop for a long time and I have arrested numerous people right out of a hospital bed. All I needed was a sworn statement from the victims (i.e. ER staff) stating they wished to press charges. After being booked, if they still needed hospitalization, they would be transferred to a different hospital. Worked like a charm!
