Help.. Need advice, planning to take CEN on June
Hi Guys, I need a good advice on how to overcome anxiety in taking CEN exam. I've been trying to look for a good CEN review guide and book. I currently use the CEN Pass book and have some other resources (Sheehy's ENA, ENA practice exam). Im scared of taking the exam for fear of failure. I scheduled my exam last year but I didn't get the chance to go due to the same reason (test anxiety). Can you guys give me any advice to overcome it? What resources did u guys use? I am thinking of checking out the Solheim review and the Boswell review.. what do you think?

Nurses from Texas, USA (esp. Filipino ones)
I think the best thing that you can do is if you can get a job that is not actually nursing. My aunt came here as a tourist and she was hired as a different job for her to stay and work here. The lawyer told her about the freezing of nurse applicants. My aunt talked to one of her friends and got an office job in a Home Health agency which in turn petitioned her as she was staying here for vacation. Hope this helps.

Study in the Philippines or U.S.A?
I graduated in the Philippines and went straight here. I believe you have some point there regarding where you wish to practice. Being a foreign graduate, the class and the way they perceive nursing there is somewhat different from the practice here in the US. I just want to clarify, US did allow the Nursing degree in the Philippines to be honored here in the US. That means the education obtained there is the same (not equally), as what we have here in the US. The situation here is much more advance from the nurses in the Philippines but they compensate it there by trying to show students what and how the technology differs from here. The NCLEX would really challenge you in terms of the way the test is made in the Philippines. Here we are use to having PCA's and LVN's so we are focusing in delegation and prioritization. The Philippines do not have any of those and the exams are not that analytical as they have in the NCLEX here. I know some people who do not pass the NCLEX who graduated here in the US that means the way you review also affects the way you pass the NCLEX exam not the place you graduated at.

fresh board passer here. am i required to attend oathtaking ceremony?
Actually it's required.. Before I went here in the US I passed my boards in Phils, but my flight was the same day i was suppose to take the oath. They said that if you can not join the ceremony what you can do is go to a judge and let him/her notarized the oathtaking paper that you have with you.. In my case they requird me to do it so I took an oath with one of the people who made the exam of June 2008 board, its a little bit dramatic on my part coz they asked me weird questions regarding my license.. shhheeeessshhh ,,,

Saunders comprehensive as a study guide in school?
Suzanne is right. I also am a graduate in the Philippines, I haven't used the Saunders when I was reviewing for my Philippine Nursing Licensure. I just read it after I took the exam, and I found out I should've scanned it coz some of the questions are there too.. My cousin used it and she passed the exam there.. Good Luck to you!!=)

Ohh sorry to hear that. actually, I also didn't passed the exam. I took it last Dec31 and got the letter just now (coz there's no quick results for calif) it's a good thing you knew the results earlier.. unlike me that i have to wait for 2weeks to recieve the news... I'm now doing suzanne's tip coz some of my friends advice me to do the same thing.. don't worry, if we give all we got this time I know that 3 or 4 months from now, we will have the RN written at the end our names!! Good Luck to us!!:wink2:
