RN Pay in NYC- Assisted Living Facility
Hi Everyone, I am an RN (BSN) with 6 months of nursing home experience. I was interviewed last week at an Assisted Living Facility in NYC. I just got called in today to go for a second interview in a few days. My question is, how much I should expect to be paid at such a facility in NYC? Thank you to all that respond :)

Hey SiegolindoRN, Thanks for the posted information. Does NYU have a BSN differential or is that already included in the base of 74k?

Richmond University Medical Center Laying Off Staff
That is pretty sad. There aren't enough hospitals in Staten Island as it is. The Nursing Home/Rehab Center (St. Elizabeth Ann) in Staten Island that I work Per Diem for, is also being auctioned this month. So our positions really depends on the new employer, if they decide to keep us or not . Things are definitely not looking good for new Staten Island nursing grads.

New RN salary in Doctor's Offices
I agree with what you said! Like they say: Beggars are not choosers! We need all the experience we can get as new grads.

New RN salary in Doctor's Offices
I am also a New Grad RN, just landed a job at a clinic, hired at a rate of $21/ hr. It isn't great but will pay the bills and of course the experience is a plus.

New RN salary in Doctor's Offices
I just got a call today for an interview at a Clinic as an RN . All that matters at this point is getting a job, especially for a new grad !!! The salary you asked seems reasonable. I don't know how much I will be getting , granted I get a job. But honestly, after job searching and not hearing from ANYONE and having soo many friends (RN's) that are jobless, I would be happy getting anything over $20/hr. Wish you the best of Luck !

Am I too young?
I too am a 22 yr old RN. Most of the students in my class and clinical settings were older. But that doesn't mean we know any less or more than our older colleagues. As long as you know your skills and job, this shouldn't affect your performance. Age is nothing but a number, be it less or more.

Medgar Evers RN-BSN, fraud?
I am two weeks into the program, and so far its good. We have to do a lot of papers, essays etc, but that's in every BSN program. I am going on full-time basis. The best part is although I am taking 13 credits, I only go to college once a week. Two of the courses r online n the other two are on campus on one day. This works out even if I get a job during the semester (if it'll be possible at all with the way economy is going). The way I see it, it should be once a week, till I graduate. It will take me about 3 semesters total to complete, but that's because I have fulfilled other general requirements of this college while I was doing my AAS ( during summers n winters) such as Chem1, Chem2, Physics, Statistics, Pharmacology, History, etc. But I would think for someone who is starting BSN with no prior BS courses, it should take about 5 semesters. BTW. The deadline is Sept 15 to apply for Spring '11. Since u can choose up to 6 schools on the CUNY application at once, I suggest u apply to all Six. When you have decided which one is right for YOU, choose that one. Don't wait around just because you're not sure which one u want to go to. Best of luck!

Do you actually READ your nursing books or just skim?
WOW, I am very surprised someone can KNOW the material by just skimming through the book. The fact that is coming from an instructor amazes me even more. I just finished AAS in nursing last semester, and from my experience we had to know every single page of that chapter in the textbook including all of the boxes, because sometimes prof would question from them. I do not know how anyone can get through nursing school just by skimming through the textbooks.

Medgar Evers RN-BSN, fraud?
I am also an Associates Degree RN, I just started BSN program at CUNY-CSI (College of Staten Island) this semester. They seem to be helpful and they want to provide as much information about their program as possible. I don't know why that is not the case with Medger Evers. CSI also have online classes which I think is a big plus! This may be something u want to look into. Whichever college you plan on applying to, I would suggest that you personally go to their Nursing dept and meet an adviser with an unofficial transcript in your hand so they can guide you appropriately. Good Luck !
