Ok so I'm a 21 yr old LPN. I feel so out of place at my job. Most of my co-workers(nurses and aides) are way older than me. I feel like I am not taken seriously because of my age. I don't tell most people how old I am but I definitely look it. I am done with my pre reqs for RN school, but I think I should maybe wait until I am older to enroll. I feel confident in my nursing skills but like I said, will I be taken seriously?

hmmm Not sure where you live but where I live(Oklahoma) you didn't even have to take the ACT to get in just have a certain number of points which come from experience as a CNA/CMA OR from certain college classes(which of course you would have to take the ACT for that) and then a pre-exam.

She is from Cali. Isn't it like ridiculously expensive to live there? In Oklahoma I know if you make $50/hr you will be very well off. But sadly here they start out in the low 20s. Which is still pretty good.

hey thanks everyone for replying but i did get the job! i start the 22nd. i'm telling my current job monday when the don is there. and that is a good idea about workin like 1 or 2 shifts a month. oh! and i get free health, dental, and vision insurance (i currently have none of that) so that kinda sold me.lol

i currently have a job. it's not a bad job honestly(as far as ltc goes), but there are basically no benefits except like retirement. anyway i have a job interview tomorrow for a govt. job (veteran's hospital) and they have all sorts of benefits, annual raises and bonuses and they might even pay more, not sure yet though. but i'm starting to get used to my current job(i've only been there 3 weeks) and feeling comfortable with everyone and knowing all of the residents and i actually do like it. so what if i do get this new job? do i take it and just up and leave my current job? i hate doing that to people. and what if i don't like it, will my first job take me back after leaving them? i'm having like a mini crisis over this. some input would be nice. thanks! :)

I would enroll in a medical terminology class if it is available. It is not required but it will be very beneficial to you.

this isn't something that i hated but it was pretty funny. during our clinicals i had a patient who was on fluid restrictions and she knew this and we made sure she knew that. well a little while later i had walked in her room to check on her and i found her standing in the middle of her room with a briefcase full of water bottles and chugging water. so i had to explain to her again why she was on fluid restriction....but we left about two in the afternoon so i'm not sure how that situation worked itself out.

so how would one switch their oklahoma lpn license to a kansas license?or have it to where you can practice in both states? i'm thinking about moving to kansas to get my rn license there at hutchison community college (i have family there) and i of course need a job while there.

Thank you all for your advice! I think I will start out in Med-Surg since thats where he had the majority of our clinicals and I feel more comfortable in that area. Now I just have to find an opening lol

I graduated from nursing school in October and recently passed the NCLEX. I would like to know what area of nursing is best to start out in for a new nurse whose only experience with nursing is from school. I honestly don't have any preference as to what area to start out in. I'm open to anything really lol

i felt the same way before i began nursing school. but once you actually start you will realize that all differences between you and your classmates are thrown out the window because you are all there for one goal and that is to be a nurse. don't get me wrong there will be those who will annoy the heck out of you, but for the most part you can grow really close to your class mates. and it is good to make friends during nursing school because it is good to have someone to share your worries or feelings with about classes, clinicals, or the nursing boards, etc.
