Hello, If you checked your email, you should have gotten it. All federal employees are eligible. However Congress has not approved the budget past Mid March so I would be hesitant to believe the payout. Write to your Congressperson for information. Also if you resign, you wouldn't be eligible for unemployment benefits. I'm not sure about federal benefits.

Yes, I currently work at the VA as an RN, I'm starting NP Program this Fall. As far as help pay for education, each one is different. DC does NOT pay for NP school, but I have read other postings that do. Here's a screen shot:

If you were offered a position, I would seriously consider taking it. The pay may not be what you expect/want, but benefits, time off & job security is worth it. You can always transfer to another dept or VA. Good luck

NVCC has online statistics class. I'm taking the Summer course I'm starting in the Fall, online program. I don't do FB though.

Where did you take statistics? I was looking online for classes and it ranged from free to $1000 for the class. Coursera, I think is free. UC Berkeley $1150. Thanks

Hello, I've been in the GE Lab for a few years. Previous ICU/Tele/m/s. It's really different from other areas of nursing - Procedural Nursing. I suggest that you become familiar with GI nursing www.sgna.org They have a new textbook which I think would be a good start, even if you bought an older textbook that's OK. Different places use nurses differently. We work in pre-op/PACU & inside the Procedure Room. Some places, RNs work as techs, some don't. Techs are highly specialized - Endo Techs - not like on the floor. That position takes a lot of skill & knowledge, a few months to master. They have to know how to do the procedure & the preferences of the doctor. I suggest that you look specifically to the way the position is worded, read it carefully. I knew a new grad that came and she did great. Having said all this, I really love it here. It's a different type of nursing & you use your skills in a different way. BTW, I work in a hospital with a higher acuity. I think now you have more leverage if that's really what you want to do. Also watch some Youtube videos to see procedures.

I have a BSN in nursing & experience in ICU, Med/Surg, tele. I am very interested in nursing informatics. My local community college has a certificate in HIT, which I am thinking about pursuing. It's very affordable & can be done online and completed in 1 year. I'm just deciding if it's worth it or should I try some other way. We use Cerner, which can be very frustrating at times, as nurse. I currently work in a hospital in ICU. I have asked about joining monthly meetings related to IT at my hospital but never got a reply. That was over a year ago. Maybe I'll ask again? Anyway, I'd love to network.

Hi, I work on a Telemetry unit in the city & come across pts who have Psych and/or Drug/ETOH issues. I've been a nurse for a long time but this is my area of weakness. In nursing school, we were taught 'therapeutic communication' but I never excelled at it. Can someone recommend a book or even better a video? I've had episodes where pt's were very upset about something & I want to deescalate it. Sometimes I've had to call Security. I'm looking to improve my practice. Thanks for any advice. Jen

I'm just learning how to use this program and want to customize the settings. I want to remove unneccesary icons in the toolbar. I feel the program is a bit overwhelming to navigate. Yes, call the hospital and ask for the volunteer office. That's a good place to start. Good luck
