  1. Find another job, go back to school to get your RN and find a job in which you are not stuck in nursing homes with those horrendous ratios! If those other nurses were permitted to make mistakes and you were slapped on the hand, then I have no doubt in my mind that if something even worse happend, you'd be thrown under the bus. Be happy your license is no longer at stake! Good luck Jamie
  2. is it general medsurg peds or a peds specialty?
  3. What type of behaviors have been going on that leads you to believe that they are being bigots?
  4. New grad as a pool nurse? something doesn't smell right
  5. The fundamentals book is wickedly huge... Our school never counted the ATI as a part of you grade, it was a pass/fail. But you were to bring your scores to your advisor and make a plan of action on areas of weaknesses.
  6. What hospitals have you applied to? Where do you live?
  7. Which hospital in the DMC system are you trying to get into? Receiving and Childrens have magnet status..... At Receiving, it's practically impossible to get a recruiter on the phone... and don't really know where the office is.
  8. does your employer offer EAP ? this may help..........
  9. Yes I got that one too. Do you have kids or plan on having any soon ???????? WTH!
  10. Look up life uniform in ann arbor decent prices, good selection
  11. I finally landed a job! Woohoo!
  12. Have you tried Oakwood or the DMC?
  13. An associates degree would be the faster route to start working, but the BSN would be great in the long run. Many hospitals like DMC are making BSN the preferred. It's really going to depend on how much you want to invest into your education. You can also always go the RN to BSN route. Are you in Windsor?
  14. How long was your orientation? Who oriented you? Obviously you cannot be the most senior nurse there.....
  15. yes here in MI if you have a BSN you can be a clinical instructor for ADN/LPN schools and if you are getting or have your MSN you can be a clinical instructor for BSN schools.
  16. It's a really nice skill to have, but understand you won't get paid any better than anyone else, unless the position explicitly states they are looking for someone bilingual only.
  17. lol... I'm trilingual and can't even score a regular staff position.
  18. I graduated in May, got my license in July and have been applying, going to job fairs, and calling recruiters since then. No luck.
  19. Not hired = No repercussions if I get injured helping with something.
  20. Thanks for your response - on day shift it didnt seem to bad... I've prepared a bunch of questions... I'm not allowed to be involved in any patient care, because I'm not an employee there.
  21. Hey all So today I interviewed with a recruiter and NM for a ICU Step-Down unit. I'd really like this position.. all the staff are very friendly and happy to be at work. There is a lot of room for growth & advancement. However, they do have more than one opening, and there are several candidates they are interviewing and they won't have their decision until later. So, tomorrow, when I shadow, would it be appropriate to bring in a food gift? e.g. tray of bagels w/cream cheese, a fruit salad.... Would it be looked upon as "kissing boot" and hurt me, or would it be appropriate? Thank you :)
  22. It will go in waves. Just make sure that nursing is what you want.
  23. I graduated from EMU's BSN program. I never had a problem with any of the instructors there, at all. It's a good program. Some classes are held in Monroe and Livonia
  24. The first part of your post that irked me was the fact that you said you did not have an orientation. There are just things in the beginning that are needed to be clarified before you hit the floor. Hope this is a lesson learned, for you and others reading this topic.
  25. I would at least make an appointment with her in her office hours to address the fact that she is making an assumption that you will not complete the program. You have to make it really clear that it is your intention to do your best and complete the program, regardless of what your instructor thinks you will do based on her observance of your behavior. I agree not to reveal so much, but you have to stand up for yourself and not make it look like you're agreeing with her statement about not finishing just by being passive.
