  1. I graduated from Deaconess (online) last year and didn't have a problem getting the 2 jobs I have. I'm an RN, that's all that matters!
  2. cutehumor, Those are accurate pay rates for new grads in Nashville. St Thomas has a class for Critical Care and does hire new grads for it. (higher pay, also) There aren't any sign-on bonuses that I know of anywhere in Nashville.
  3. I left an HMA hospital in TN 3 mos ago. They took over 2 yrs ago. They are the worst!!! They're cheap, cheap, cheap!!! The quality of supplies went downhill, ratios went up, employee satisfaction went down the tubes and many, many left and are still leaving. Our insurance became a real joke, too.
  4. Dave, do you have the 800 # to call to see if you're licensed?? Sometimes that is quicker than the website.
  5. I passed the NCLEX!!!! I'm an RN!!!!
  6. I'll be taking my boards in TN - Probably in about 3-4 wks. YIKES!!
  7. Thanks Mona and Cheri!! There's no graduation ceremony for summer. We have to do it in Dec. Haven't decided if I'll go up for it.
  8. Deaconess has become very popular and they have many, many more applicants than spaces available. Don't expect them to contact you to see if you're still interested! Nothing has changed since the buyout - except maybe good things. And there are classes starting Fall semester. They're full. I'm extremely happy with the program - I just graduated this past weekend :)
  9. I have heard doctors say what a bad program it is and that the nurses are not prepared for anything.
  10. I'm graduating from Deaconess in 3 weeks!! I've gotten a job at a very large teaching hospital in the MSICU. YIPEEEEE!!!!!
  11. it's centennial, not vandy. i'd work 3/12s, hopefully not in a row! i live se of nashville, near mcminnville. i'm debating if i should stay where i'm working (tullahoma) or go to centennial.
  12. I took the Hurst review and she told us that it's all rumor about getting the last question correct and passing. It's over all how you do. She said there are alot of people who get the last question right and fail as well as those who get it wrong and pass.
  13. My best advice would be to ask your instructors lots and lots of questions. I graduate from DCN in 6 weeks (yeah!!!!!) and have found all of my instructors to be extremely helpful - both through email and on the phone. Most importantly is to keep up with the readings and attend all of the chats. As far as care plans are concerned there are many internet sites that can help you with them. Also get a good nursing diagnosis handbook. If you have any other questions, let me know!
  14. Anybody know anything about this program?? I'm considering it when I graduate in July. It's an 80-mile trip each way! Thanx!
  15. I agree! I took the review last week and it was AWESOME!!
  16. I figured for $39.95, if I got some good tips, it was worth it. I bought it a few months ago and haven't had a chance to get into it yet. I'm doing a live Hurst review now.
  17. Thank you New Mom and Cherie! To answer your questions, New Mom - I'm not sure how many new students they take. But they do take new ones each semester. As far as the difficulty getting in? From what I hear, it's very difficult. When I started 2 yrs ago it wasn't as bad. It's very competitive now, though. If you need to know anything else, feel free to ask me.
  18. Another "expert" heard from!! I'm graduating from DCN in 9 weeks and it has been an excellent program.
  19. This sounds like an LPN program to me. Not an LPN to ASN or RN program. I did read that you would have to do clinicals in St. Louis so one must live with in the area. Clinicals are done in a facility near where you live. I live in another state and do mine at a hospital near my home. There are 5 times during the RN program when you must go to the campus; that is for validation.
  20. The people at DCN are very happy about the purchase by DeVry. It's a very good thing for them. I was told that everything should stay the same.
  21. All states do not practice reciprocity. There is an something called the "Nurse Licensure Compact". States that are members are Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Idaho, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Mexico, N.Dakota, S.Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Wisconsin. Those that are pending are IN, NJ, VA. For info go to: http://www.ncsbn.org/nlc/rnlpvncompact.asp
  22. I couldn't have said it better, Pmdc! And what a HUGE chip it is!!!!!!!
  23. The school is not still owned by Tenet.
  24. Poeme, you just don't give up, do you? Still haven't gotten over failing at Deaconess??
