  1. why do you want to go to school in the south? I would recommend Florida for the babes
  2. American Disability act-no employer should discriminate based on race, sex, religion, or disability. If a nurse has a mental disability, doing a good job and professionally. I would not have a problem with them. An employer would get in trouble for firing such an individual for no reason especially with a documented disability.
  3. I'm half Filipino so I can relate. Well, I went to school in Memphis, TN. I've been a nurse for 2.5 years all in the south, I get asked constantly "where are you from?" I actually had one patient bad mouthed Mexicans the entire time I had him. He probably thought I was Mexican which I'm not. You won't have much of a social life either. PM me if you have any other questions.
  4. the nursing shortage seems to be LOCATION dependent! I've been looking for two weeks for a full time job and I find are ER and ICU jobs. which I don't want! The want ads in the sunday paper was less than a page. how depressing!
  5. could be a troll posting. maybe a psych patient. who knows if it's true.
  6. looks like it's 50/50 on letting the pt sleep and turning them at night
  7. maybe camille read about it??? http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,399626,00.html story only 5 days old.
  8. looks like it's a 50/50 on to turn pts at night while they are sleeping
  9. yes, violence could occur anywhere. Just trying to prevent my ear from being bit off or my nose broke.
  10. yeah, buy the VA puts you only in ICUs in my area of TN. don't they take two months to do a background check? due to terrorism concerns? since they are federal govt and your taking care of military vets
  11. I'm trying to decide between Acute Treatment, Extended Treatment, Children and Youth, and Forensic Treatment Program. Most likely would be a night position. Which one of these would be less likely to have violent patients? I've never worked psych before, only med surg. Thanks
  12. When I did my psych clinical in nursing school, I talked to a girl with some dependent personality disorder who became suicidal when her ex boyfriend from two years ago got married. she talked her head off to me. her roommate told me later that she never talked in the two weeks they roomed with each other. the next day, the same patient kept telling me that she was being discharged in a few days and her brother was going to pick her up. she kept dropping hints about it and she followed me around the floor too. I'm considering going to psych myself. that's another thing I worry about, female stalkers and being attacked.
  13. white scrubs, I don't like. usually, you can see the ladies undergarments with the white scrubs. It can be good or bad.
  14. There's one thing that bothered me about certain preceptors. What I have seen, they are helpful when you are orienting. But when your on your own, if you have questions, some were irritated about being asked questions. I have seen it first hand, that person would in turn ask me. So I would ask when your on my own, which nurses to ask for advice from.
  15. I always dilute with NS everytime. IV or PICC, just as a habit, plus for safety. gets you in a routine. You don't want to accidentally forget not to dilute for an IV if your swamped.
